  1. I just think there's something off with that Hamilton team.

Reminds me of multiple teams we've had who could flatter to deceive at times but were soft as putty when it really counted.

In our first meeting they had us 2 0 down going on 5 but basically collapsed when we got one back.

The difference between that and when we scored against Falkirk was massive.

At a minimum it's the second best squad in the league so finishing a decent second is no disaster but I can see where their fans dissatisfaction is coming from.

They watch them every week and  their belief seems to confirm what im seeing.

Just because they may have underachieved it doesn't take away from Falkirk dominance of the league either....

I think we could have this debate all day the reality of the matter is though these are the players and the squad Rankin wanted and he's been backed massively by our new owner and he has failed miserably even in a lot of games we've won this season he has almost killed us with his awful subs  he's made and his rotten system and it's more due to our players being milles better than the opposition that we've won games than him. This isn't his first season he got us relegated as well last year and should of been removed then. He will never be a manager and belongs on Sportscene and if we are to win this league next season bringing in a new manager is essential as he would make a mess of it again next season. Falkirk have been great this season though and deservedly have won the league that doesn't change the fact that Rankin must go.

from what i've seen of both teams this season (3 times each) i'd agree with you.

This looks like 'as good as it gets' with Rankin. Falkirk clearly improved from last season.

player for player differences are minimal ability wise. it's the team spirit and belief that's the difference and that has to start with the manager.

Stirling Albion v Edinburgh City, February 2017. City's on-loan No 3 is now a Scotland International. I think the others have all retired now, except for Number 17 who is at Civil Service Strollers.

i think i was probably at that.

checked out the lineups and that makes me feel better about today's team.  Only Ross McGeachie remains in the side from that team and i'd say we are a much better side today than then. Darren Young has proved to be a far better manager for us than Dave McKay.

Aaron Dunsmore was in the EC lineup that day. he hasn't retired and had been with us the last two seasons before moving out on loan recently.

  4. It's easy to get carried away with one week's set of results this time of year.

I had pretty low expectations for yesterday. Our away form has been in the main awful and we don't have the personnel or playing style to grind out many draws.

We're much better at home in terms of our play but have definitely been let down by our finishing. The number of home draws where we didn't find that killer goal for a two goal lead is what's left us in this position.

I'm hopeful of taking something from all of our home games. It's just whether we can score enough to win them. We've got to fancy taking something at EC and surely at least have a chance at Kelty.

All to play for and could be worse.

That's actually my team but with a wee twist. Once I get the tactics board sorted I'll post it tomorrow night once Hartley has done his Powerpoint presentation.

I genuinely thought about your tactics board after Cammy played that pass from that inverted full back position....

Look forward to seeing the twist

  6. I won't make this one.

I'd be more than happy with a draw most likely.

Will need more of last weeks battling spirit.

Offord is probably worth a start.

I'd switch him in for Hilson and give him that second striker/right wing position. He's versatile enough to be able to play either.

  7. did anyone hear Finlay Gray and Tony Wallace phone into SSB last night for Beat The Pundit.?

    was hilarious.

Gordon Duncan asking what they were up to.......On our way to training.  What training? football training? for who? Dumbarton........ Dumbarton's first team?

best moment for me though was one of the questions was 'Who won Scottish League 2 last year?"

they did pause before giving the answer. gave me a chuckle.

At this point, I'd be surprised if we avoid ninth place. Agree that Kelty will ultimately have enough. Annan have found title-winning form all of a sudden, so they'll be safe. That leaves us and QOS - and as Saturday shows, they'll pull out one or two results from nowhere by virtue of being a full time team. Think we'll have to take our chances in the playoffs.

Nah i don't think so. I think it will be tight but we can do enough. For all that Annan have found a bit of form they still have ground to make up.

Think we need to win 2 out of the 3 remaining home games and pick up another 3 or 4 points away. If we can't win away at Edinburgh then we deserve all we get.

If we do that it means Annan need 14 points out of 18 which seems unlikely.

    All in our hands.

  9. if we can't take something from our remaining home games and can't manage to beat Edinburgh City then we deserve ninth place. i agree they look a bit better but if you have ambitions of staying in this league then beating the bottom team who have nothing to play for is the bare minimum to expect.

All of these games are going to be difficult. that's what you expect at this time of the season with everything to play for. I hope that last season's experience helps. they handled the run in extremely well last season. when the pressure was on, we were the team that buckled least.

  10. I'm still quietly confident. We've laboured a little bit but I think we've got enough resilience and determination to finish the job.

It's getting really interesting though. Yesterday's win was so valuable both for the two extra points and for confidence going into the final games.

The worry for us is so many games against the rest. Lose any of those and its doubly bad.

I didn't see the results all going that way yesterday and I'm sure there will be more surprises before the end of the season.

Listened to Sportsound on the way back up the road, and wanted to tip the hat to Falkirk fan Craig Cruickshanks who was on the phone-in, and spoke extremely well about John McGlynn and the club's progress over the last 2 years.

Heard that myself on the way to the game too and you are right he did speak very well.

Was actually good for them to have no premier league to talk about for a change.

He's a bit ball greedy, but he gets a pass from me because he's the only player we have who consistently drives at opponents and makes things happen on his own. Yeah, he's a bit cocky (gallus probably a kinder word), but we needed someone like that! We were a bit too nice in the first half of the season - McPake and Crane have helped with this.

He ie definitely a bit greedy but gets a pass from me too.

A lot of the time there is no obvious ball for him and either his team mates don't keep up or aren't on the same wavelength.

Its certainly given us something I think we've lacked since kai fotheringham tbh with that ability to go by a man so easily and open things up.

Offord deserves a start next week. When McPake was moved more central I think that could be a more impactful role for him than out wide where he tries too many stepovers etc. Saw DY passing a note onto Crane during a subs change and things improved from there on in. Montrose were poor I thought but well supported by their young team particularly the lad who felt the need to take his top off and challenge fans from afar.

Anyway 3 pts much needed after last week and onto Cove next week (not going to manage that one).

Anyone sample the pie of the week? Chicken pakora I think. Almost forgot the Montrose sub (12) sporting the most awful/wonderful permed mullet. Should that be allowed?

Chilli chicken pakora pie was magic.

That mullet was unbelievable. Belongs ina decade way before he was born....

I saw the note being passed too. We did improve a bit from there. Mcpake can be a bit frustrating end product wise. I think you are right. His ability to take the ball in tight spaces could make him useful centrally.

The young Montrose fans need to find someone who can actually play that drum

Possibly one of the worst games of football I've seen in my life. Both teams were very poor,  the Mo slightly poorer.

Only bit of skill seen on the day resulted in the goal. Stirling deserved the win.

Bit of shit housery at the back of the stand though. We were pelted with stones throughout the second half by young bawbags outside.

Could see something like that was happening. Saw presumably same wee bawbags trying to chase the supporters bus afterwards being pursued by police and stewards....

He seems like a nice lad (I know he's popular in the dressing room) and did well for us last season, but I'm afraid Kyle just isn't good enough with the ball for this level. It just bounces off him too many times.

I love Kyle too. Can't help but have an affinity for those that come through.

His equaliser against Hamilton is still probably my favourite moment of the season.

I agree. The step up has been a bit much for him.

  16. Cammy Clark would have been my man of the match. Great performance especially first half.

Lot of slack passing in midfield with Banner probably the worst culprit

Montrose struggled to really create anything and I was quite surprised how bad they were.

We really didn't get going either. It was all mostly a bit huff and puff. Thought that header from the corner that was cleared might have been over the line.but hard to say. I was really starting to think that was our chance.

Spence coming on seemed to allow us to go a bit more direct. Just delighted to get there really especially the way the other results went.

  17. i didn't enjoy the last midweek game at all.....

we were awful that night. that and the Alloa game have been the only home games where i was bitterly disappointed in our performance level

we really need to start picking up some points.  our home performances have been generally decent but we've drawn a few we should have won and that's left us still in the battle for the relegation playoff.

Don't expect too many changes line up wise. I guess right back will depend on Geek's fitness after going off injured last week.

i expect the same formation wise with the 3 central midfielders. I thought Lewis Milne was poor last week but we spent a lot of time without the ball and pressing/tackling isn't his strength. i expect him to retain his place.
