  1. Been mentioned already, but Culloden and Glencoe both unsettle me. Worked a summer at Storrs Hall hotel in Bowness on Windermere where spooky things happened. A couple of staff left because of "ghosts" and strange happenings.
  2. Oh to be 15 again, when you thought you were invincible.
  3. Wouldn't happen to be this? Just opened minutes ago! Californian but cracking.
  4. There's usually a good mix of fairly priced wines and more expensive bottles but I've looked through the brochure that arrived earlier and it does seem to have more in the 8-10 range and fewer in the below 8 range this time. Wines like the Bread & Butter are a bit dearer but they are really good. They seem to cut some really good deals with vineyards and the 'When it's gone it's gone' deals that I've tried have been excellent.
  5. I've just noticed that Majestic now offering Bread & Butter Cabernet Sauvignon. Well, that'll take care of wine for the bbq steaks.
  6. This is so familiar. Mother in law had this down to a fine art. As soon as you'd say it was time to go, she'd launch into another long story, like Ronnie Corbett's stories only not so funny. Used to think it was quite endearing but, bloody hell, it's genetic. Now Mrs SL does a fine impression of her maw. Always when I'm in the middle of something or just wanting peace to read. And as if by magic, there she is, "put the kettle on". FFS.
  7. I'd be happy to sample any of those - they all look great, Pouilly Fume especially. Sounds like a fun way to spend an evening.
  8. By the end of today in this house if this afternoon's lockdown bickering continues.
  9. I don't know him but I wish he was back in the States - sounds like the type that would clear a room just by talking, so nae need for a gun.
  10. This is just the new "hottest summer ever"/"coldest winter ever" bilge that they resort to when sales are falling.
  11. If you can figure out what The Song of the Seagoat is about mind and let me know! Does use a piece of Vivaldi music to good effect, though.
  12. An incredible album! One of my favourites. I was listening to Still by Pete Sinfield last week - great lyricist. Probably skip over his Bucks Fizz collaborations, though.
  13. Has the 'stay alert' line been taken from the WW2 book of slogans? They'll have us Digging for Victory next.
  14. Favourite sandwich is bacon, avocado and tomato. Best ever sandwich eaten was Pastrami with a dill pickle from Carnegie Deli in NYC.
  15. From Private Eye. Not sure if this is news or satire
