  1. That's why it should be North and South after Div 1, so you have the 3-2-1 steps as you improve through the steps.

It always seems to create strong feelings though, don't know if it's just too much like the old junior way... but it works.

The split will be around Edinburgh now rather than splitting up Fife with the Tayside club going up norff but I can't see why it wouldn't work for everyone. The levels of these teams are close enough so there won't be cricket scores and if you don't like being in a regional league then don't be pish and get into Div 1.

To be fair he seemed to last a while with Syngenta/Pennies (assuming they were both basically the same club).

Also seems to be potential for a project at Camelon seeing as they’ve been in a bit of mess lately and should be in a higher league or two than they currently sit.

    No, there was Craigshill before...

You know what its like with rumors but this one seems to hold water. Player ask for his contract and when he got it it had been signed by someone else, wasn't his sgnature on it! You hope its not true cos forging players contracts is pretty low

    Happens everywhere tbh :whistle

  4. I actually agree with a lot of what has been said, but...

Penicuik have been flying on the crest of a wave for a while now. We are just a wee club (considering the shit the town has been through without it) compared to others who have stayed established for that time.

There's a massive gap in the history, the support and the potential investment.

The last few years have been amazing and the committee (and management) deserve all the credit they get. This is a patch that's been there for a lot longer than the results suggest. I've not been confident of Penicuik winning ANY game over the last few months, we've looked pish but still scrape the wins together.

Yes I think there's issues with McLeish. Is it him or something more deep that's causing it? He's a good guy and a good manager but needs to step back and almost start again with this squad and mentality... and supporters need to look around and ask "do we have a God-given right to be ahead of all these other teams?"

It's a tough league and Penicuik won't be leaving it (up or down) for a long time so just enjoy the ride and be thankful they are there, even if we can't watch them as much as we'd like to!

A workmanlike performance sees us go top, with a long way still to go.

Kello keeper had one (fortunate) save. Our keeper had none. We also hit the bar .

Got to grind them out sometimes

Good to see you back on form, the season started a bit dodgy on and off the pitch.

How's the park doing now since the damage? Did you get it all back together again?

  6. The SoS league had a golden opportunity when the east officially joined up to become the daddies of the west and seel the league to clubs like Clydebank who were looking for an option. I know they didn't want 1 or 2 clubs on there own and the clubs didn't want to be stuck down thee alone, but you saw how quickly the EoS avalanche happened.

It's a shame because the league has a great history but they've totally been left behind. The NCL (a similar league) has taken a huge jump in the same time as the South has gone backwards with perhaps more obstacles in their way

Hearts have a B team in there as well. I’d thought that this was because there was no reserve league any more but now I realise it must be all part of a plan to play  in the Euroconference

I thought Hearts applied for a laugh to derail the Rangers and Celtic teams and help to create a proper reserve league. They didn't expect the LL teams to be stupid enough to actually vote them in and spoil the plan... That's my theory anyway

At least Hearts are using their LL team for developing players. It want be long before the other 2 are full of farmed youngsters that'll never get near the 1st team but in the hope of cashing a decent transfer or 2

Is it purely a case of a youth/amateur club thinking the jump into adult, bigger League football is fairly straightforward ? Or is it just the lack of ground, as I would have thought they'd have enough volunteers to help - or as seen around Bristol, tons of help when kids are playing - but lack of interest when kids grow up. A shame to see clubs fold, obviously I don't know the whole story with the owner etc.

This situation is a bit more complictated

  9. Is it not true as well that a lot of the lads who play in Skye are only really up over the summer and have uni and other places to be over the winter.

As a mainland tourist Skye in the winter is awesome, has a proper old island feel. It can quickly turn into “htf am I getting off here” when the bridge gets shut and the weather sets in but possibly the best place in the world to be stranded! Then you have to get up and over Glen Garry or Allandale to civilisation…

The S&S side from Broadford has often had a really solid looking team in the Amateur Cup over the years but if they wanted to play winter I get the feeling they would’ve by now.

  10. Would be priceless if the results against the 3 colt teams makes a difference to the championship. 6 friendly games that we were promised wouldn't affect the general Lowland League table but clearly is.

More than that, there's a clear conflict of interest in that the 3 colt teams are going to want more of their yeah-sayers staying in the league so they have more chance of being voted in again.

Why does leagues merging save the amateur game? I don't get this argument tbh.

It was a move in the right direction, 1 step in many that are needed and we are already having a civil war. They've got no chance of sorting this until people understand that hard decisions will have to be made to save things from getting any worse. The sense of entitlement is too much though, always someone else's problem then cry when something doesn't go their way

  12. If the amateur game dies then the clubs have only themselves to blame.

They complain the league doesn't do enough, the league take a step forward, the clubs spit the dummy, join another league and we are back to square one.

Having been to a few agm's over a couple of associations, I can say that the clubs offer NOTHING. Always quick to complain and criticise but never offer the leagues any help or solutions.

I even thought about joining the league setup to help out with admin, etc. but put that on hold when I saw the attitude of some of the entitled clowns running the clubs. And don't get me started on the referee situation, again it's their own fault! I've played in 2 bounce games refereed by opposing coaches and BOTH ended up in a riot, which tells you how well they can ref!

A lot of these wannabe superstars tend to start a team, race through the leagues winning everything then fold the minute they play some decent and get their arsed handed to them.

    It's a complete shambles tbh

Glasgow Wellington are deluded if they think they could see off any challenge for promotion from a WoS and EoS winner. Daft travel that could be avoided by playing WoS Div 4. A publicity stunt surely.

It like the crazy application that most leagues get every year, usually some hyperactive kid who has spent too much time playing FM.

Usually leagues discard these (one of my school mates done it with the EoS years ago and they kindly told him to bolt!) but the South of Scotland actually accepted them!

Does anyone even know of they have a squad willing to travel down there for a season of games in order to stroke one’s ego?

Peebles have struggled for a long time.

Vale look to be in trouble at the minute but the pyramid is there for teams to find their level.

Gala are doing exceptionally well to keep up their consistency season in season out and deserve huge credit for that. It might be a few years yet before they are in EoS waters again.Unless,of course, theres major changes at the top and bottom ends of the LL.

There is also the story that Border amateur players preferred to play with their mates on a Saturday rather than trying a new level of football and the travel involved.

Would love to see more Border EoS teams.

Whitehill when they went senior in 1980 broke the mould in enticing players from the Edinburgh area. Rather than travel to the Borders players would prefer staying within a reasonable travelling distance.

This has been proven in EoSFL folklore.

Changed days now obviously with the merger of the associations.

All for the good of the game of course.

    Saved me writing it all!

Look at 2 out of 3 of Selkirk's closest clubs. Do we really need another Hawick or VoL struggling in the league?

As for Chirnside and Duns, again there is a resurgence from the East Lothian clubs with Coldstream and Tweedmouth ready there so I think that's covered too.

Also, as nice as it looks, Chirnside's Park is horrendous and only careful manicuring from the main man keeps it playable. Plus the far end corner flag used to be about crossbar level so that'll need fixed!
