Sorry I've misread that then, but pretty certain they are heading south.

But again could be wrong, no knowledge of either club.

I thought the same tbh, always thought it was the clubs who decided pending being accepted by said association which would be a formality unless Gretna chose the Midlands league for a laugh

When Threave were accepted to WOS, a number of squad from Star moved to Threave, dropping down from 5 to 10. Dont know why, but definitely seem happier playing in WOS, obviously wanting to move up the Divisions quickly.

I think it's more about playing competitive football more than anything. I don't think they've big plans to charge through the leagues, but every game is winnable and there is no gimmes.

Sometimes decent games makes up for a drop in level and gives you more chance to shine and enjoy it

  3. Threave have always just tried to find a league at their own level and deserve credit.

They could have easily skooshed the SoS every season but the old EoS was a better fit. They tried the LL but was a step too far and by then the EoS was a different league so went back south. Now they have found somewhere they'll find their level and compete for a few diddy cups along the way.

One reason for moving was a feeling the SOS was becoming an amateur league

There's no problem with that. As mentioned though, there is NO Saturday amateurs in the area. I understand there's a lack of numbers but there will still be decent players kicking about who can join/create new SoS teams that can still compete. Picking up these teams from as far as Glasgow is just asking for trouble, especially when the league are supposed to be tier 6 and a direct feeder to the LL.

Relegation for Dalbeattie and Gretna might make or break the league depending on where they choose to go

I'll give you Glasgow Wellington playing out of Shettleston direction and the Wosfl can have Threave Rovers from Castle Douglas.

    Go figure.

It looks like a petty 'tit for tat' from the outside looking in...

SOS were pissed off the WoS accepted Threave so took on a Glasgow team in spite.

The difference being Threave are a well established club with both EoS and LL experience, a long Scottish Cup history and a licence. While the other teams are basically a bag of balls, fancy strips and double booking from Glasgow Lesure from an embarrassing call-off

Kelty Hearts blew the whole thing wide open

It was weirdly Dalkeith that blew it up. They were miles past the deadline to switch leagues IIRC, but with the weight of the avalanche it all happened within days leaving only Fife and West Lothian left.

Everyone was watching Ketly and still thinking, "ah but they've got a shit load of money behind them, it's not for us". Don't think anyone wanted to pull the trigger first unless they all went together, Dalkeith maybe had less to lose taking the leap.

I think they should get rid of League Two. Merge the clubs of L2 with L1. Have a big league of 20 clubs.

What is the point of League 2?

Agreed. It would allow there to be more relegation spots to the Highland and Lowland League, create some positive movement and will probably do most of the chronic bottom dwellers of the leagues a favour in creating more competition and interest

    Which team is that?

    Glasgow Wellington

Really nice lads running it with crazy ambition and organising, BUT it's just another ammy team with absolutely no foundations at all... Apparently they play out of Greenfield Sport Centre

Will probably last 2-3 years until 1of them gets bored and the team fold like most other amateur teams just now.

16 team league is too small tho, need to be min 18.

    16 with a 8-8 split would work…

30 games then 7 more post-split, if you could gloss over the home and away advantage issue it would cause.

Unless there’s 4 relegation and a few promotion playoff spots, anything more than 16 is too much

Brian Porteous to stand down as Chairman - Berwick Rangers Football Club

Looking close to home, Kevin Dixon – local businessman and Chairman of Shielfield Park neighbours Tweedmouth Rangers Football Club – was approached by Porteous and accepted his invitation to stand for Chairman, given his support for the club and a desire to take it forward.
