  1. Airdrie 2-1 Queen's Park Alloa 3-0 Clyde Dumbarton 1-1 Montrose Falkirk 2-1 Cove Peterhead 3-1 East Fife
  2. I listened to Rennie on a northeast podcast called Northern Goal a few months back and was really impressed with how he came across. He has good contacts i'm led to believe and although no Scottish football managerial experience he's got a proven track record of success. Sounds like a winner to me. https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9ub3J0aGVybmdvYWwucG9kYmVhbi5jb20vZmVlZC54bWw/episode/bm9ydGhlcm5nb2FsLnBvZGJlYW4uY29tL2VmOGFmNTcwLTU0OTEtMzQ5ZC04ZjFkLTE1NDkxMjIzMjE3Yw?ep=14
  3. Cove not taking the Scottish Cup seriously clearly as we the ball boy plays in goal. No Logan and Rory starts on the bench which is surprising. Glad Vigurs is missing as Scully, Fyvie, Yule will give a better balance. Interesting to see if McIntosh partners Mitch up top or plays in a 5 man midfield. He's got some pace but very little supply or finishing ability. Cue a Leighton goal!
  4. Metoffice is what I'm pinning my hopes on for Dumfries tomorrow. Currently quite different to what BBC are claiming. Hope your game goes ahead if not wild. Our last visit to LP was extremely windy, especially first half. Should be a great contest between two quality teams. Wouldn't like to call a winner. Montrose's defence doesn't let much past it that's for sure!
  5. I was far more impressed with QOS in the SPFL Trust match against Morton midweek. Connelly, Junior, Paton linked up well and Cochrane stood out more than against us. Gibson, who gives everything, did well at CB although clearly an unorthodox position for him. Credit to QOS, Ayr and Morton who are operating with lower budgets and managing to say in the Championship. 8th or 9th straight season at that level for QOS and think Morton are maybe 7 straight. Not an easy task. Airdrie I thought might be able to win the playoff final last season but they were well beaten. Who knows what Tuesday night will bring but looking forward to the contest. Our away support will be minimal given its a Tuesday night and the distance involved even though the club has an offered a free supporters bus.
  6. Weather was abysmal and Sons were unlucky that both the wind and the majority of the rain stopped at the half time break. Cove created next to nothing in the first half. Defensively Dumbarton looked very solid. Agreed, if it was a grass pitch it would have been off. Flooding around the perimeter of the pitch needs sorted.
  7. Yes an odd one not to start Schiavone. Is he on loan from Hearts until January or the whole season? Gal always looks a threat at this level; natural goalscorer. Hopefully Farrell brings in a similar type player for the Sons in January.
  8. What a wild day for a game of football. Atrocious conditions, especially in the first half. Thought 2-0 flattered us to be honest. We were slow in possession, never kept or used it well in the final third and gave Dumbarton far too much time to fall back into their shape. Not our finest performance but pleasing to get a clean sheet and 3 points in the end. Mitch and Rory were kept at bay fairly easily by Buchanan and Geggan. Callum Wilson did well for me and impressed again. Sons really missing a quality centre forward. Collectors item, Vigurs scoring with his right foot.
  9. Haha. They should sack off these awards (or that's what I'll be saying tomorrow night at 5pm if we lose!) Mitch is progressing as the season goes. A relatively slow start by his standards in terms of goals in first 10 league games but now has 8 goals in 15 along with 5 assists. Would likely have had more but Rory has taken, and scored, all 5 penalties. Fancy him to get on the scoresheet tomorrow. I haven't heard of any injuries on our side. Rory I hope was just rested mid-week and should start tomorrow. He only got the last 20 minutes against QoS last weekend.
  10. Sometimes when you are expected to win it doesn't always happen. League 1 has shown that more often than not. Wouldn't surprise me if Sons came away with a point(s) Looking forward to seeing Callum Wilson again. He's impressed me so far but will have a tricky opponent in Shay Logan. Pig, Paton or McKee against Vigurs and Fyvie will be a interesting CM battle.
  11. Firstly, for all fans attending layer up. Last week against QotS it was about -5 with the wind chill (fair play to this guy). Balmoral isn't exactly warm at the best of times but from now until March it's arctic. Cove come into this fixture with 1 defeat in their last 14 in all competitions. A run which has included 5 draws and 8 wins. Performances of late have been much better than the start of the season and at times (QP, Peterhead, Rangers B) akin to how we played last season. We're now utilising width in Shay (who has vastly improved), Milne, Yule and Masson and both Rory and Mitch are banging in goals. Dare I say it even Vigurs has improved in the last month although he still doesn't do enough for me. Sons have had a poor run of late with 5 losses and 2 draws before a good away win at Alloa and a late cup winner. The first league encounter this season between the sides was a lot tighter than the scoreline suggested.
  12. This is the game of the weekend for me. Very intrigued to see how it pans out. Queen's Park have been blighted with losing points from winning positions as of late. The "on paper" easier run is over and now entering a very tough run of fixtures, can they step up and get results or will they drop a few places in December. Got quality in midfield and if LE can pick his best side they could get a run together. 5 points in the next 3 would be decent return imo. Quitongo and Baynham could be done with a swift return. Need a win for morale. The Falkirk I saw on the opening day of the season I thought would be higher than where they are now. My feeling is, the consensus among many L1 teams, is they are underperforming and could still turn it around. Morrison back clearly gives them an edge and should add points to the tally. Sheerin is completely out of his depth and needs emptied in order for the above to materialize. I watch all his post match interviews and as well as saying the wrong things, he nervously has twitches and ear pulls/scratches whenever the inevitable question is asked about how do they improve next week. I'll boringly sit on the fence and call a draw. Big 3 points for both though.
  13. Hoping Sons can cause an upset. Watched the game on TV last year against the Dons and you ran them very close. A local derby is what I wanted too. I'll dream about that in the 5th round but Hibs will likely put us out in all honesty if we get that far. Having seen QotS they are no better than the top 5 of L1 imo. I reckon Ayr, Hamilton and Morton are very close in standard too. Clydebank looked competitive both legs against Elgin and rightly got through. Against Clyde they deserved their win and will fancy their chances to get past Annan at Holm park. Would have been a tasty fixture for a Sons fan!
  14. Yes unfortunate having Rangers in our name but we feel exactly the same way about the old firm as any other club!
  15. Cove pumping Rangers B is something we're doing for all the Scottish League sides bar the OF
  16. I'll be going down to it with optimism that we can get through. Although we were down twice in the initial game we had plenty of chances, didn't look threatened and looked the better side. Tougher away from home granted. Hibs away for the winner. Was really hoping for a home tie and anyone apart from the OF. Last time we played Hibs we were 1-0 up against them at HT in the premier sports cup before losing 2-1. Clearly we or QotS will be huge underdogs in that one. Sons getting a home draw but premiership opposition in Dundee. Thoughts? Both Cove and Dumbarton had Rangers and Aberdeen respectively in the 4th round last year and again would have prem opponents. Would love a cup run but for us likely won't happen.
  17. Clyde 1 - 2 Peterhead Cove Rangers 3 - 1 Dumbarton East Fife 0 - 1 Alloa Athletic Queen's Park 1-1 Falkirk
  18. Fair play coming out to Balmoral today in the artic conditions! A bit of injustice maybe with their first goal. Didn't think they threaten us much at the back to be honest but somehow we were behind twice. Vigurs has been a bit better the last 3/4 matches but he shouldn't be a nailed on starter for me. He's getting a bit too much game time due to his past. He's slow, prone to losing the ball in dangerous areas and his number of assists and goals has been low. I would drop him / sub him now and again and play Scully and Fyvie in CM. Leighton never gets a start usually. This season it's been Rory and Mitch up top and Leighton getting the odd 5-10 minute cameo. He has no redeeming qualities apart from blindly running the channels.
  19. Poor Cove performance today, well below our usual standard. We had the majority of the chances but never got the passing game going and found ourselves down twice when we had the better of the game. I expected a lot more from QotS being a championship side. There are a few league 1 sides who could easily turn over that team. Great vocal support from their loyal followers which made for a decent atmosphere. Heard their first goal wasn't over the line but couldn't see it from where I was and regardless it stood. Unwanted replay but for me personally it'll be another ground chalked off the list
  20. Cove start like below. Logan, Masson and McAllister all start on the bench and Ryan Strachan doesn't make the squad. 4 regular starters missing. Scott Ross is an able RB but Jevan Anderson is a big worry in central defence. Would never normally get a game. Leighton McIntosh gets a rare start and we all know his supply is dreadful. Was really hopeful going into the game but 4 regulars missing now not so much. Will be an interesting tie
  21. Scottish Cup weekend almost upon us and if Cove weren't playing I'd be going to Spain Park to watch Banks o Dee Vs East Fife. Should be an interesting game for the neutral assuming the NE weather doesn't spoil it. East Fife will be favourites, and I hope they progress, but will need to play well to do so and importantly be tight at the back. I've seen Banks o Dee a fair bit over the years and they have goals in their side. Buglass, Philipson, Henderson, MacLeod and a few in midfield can chip in with goals. Although a junior side currently, they are on par with the better/best Highland league sides such as Fraserburgh and Brechin. They'll come up to the HL next year I reckon given the pyramid change to allow promotion from the 6th tier. Enjoy your away day and hopefully we'll both be in the draw for the next round!
  22. It's certainly one of the teams that many probably didn't want. A banana skin but Montrose should be buoyant and I fancy you to get the job done even at new central park
  23. Second half started with Cove looking intent on giving away cheap possession and inviting Airdrie to have a couple of chances. I also thought Airdrie might score the opener during that 20 minute spell. Cove took their chances and then defended the lead without too much fuss. Not a great passing or free flowing attacking performance from us. Quite below the performance of last week and the Queen's game but we looked fairly solid. Airdrie I'm sure, or know, can and will play better than that. Was looking forward to seeing Easton and McInroy but neither got a foothold in the match. Vigurs is doing his job but not excelling in my eyes. Better than he has been I'll give him that. Montrose away is about as hard as it gets. Our December league games are Dumbarton (h), Falkirk (a), Clyde (h), East Fife (h). All the best against Stenny. We have QoS
  24. Well done Montrose. Huge win that. We'll be looking to emulate that in December although certainly won't be easy. Really interesting cup tie next weekend. Will definitely have one eye on how that progresses
