  1. Seeing them in Birmingham and London. Been 8.5 years by my reckoning since they toured over here. Uriah Heep and Saxon (with Brian Tatler still presumably) as support is mental too. Should be one hell of an evening (twice!). That week for me is bookended by Stiff Little Fingers on St Patrick's Day at Barrowlands, then the following Friday in Manchester. If my body and my wallet survive it all it's a miracle.
  2. Was about to say BLA could be misinterpreted as Blackpool, but by the same logic, NEW could be Newport County! Rovers were BLA in their Match of the Day days, or BLB when Blackpool came up.
  3. It gets on my wick how people preach about levelling up then pump the money into Manchester. That place has gone though an unfathomable transformation over the past three decades. It is by a long disance England's closest resemblance to the capital in terms of sport/culture/economy/tourism. Fvck building any more military scale shite there.
  4. Freddie Mercury dying and that cvnt Brian May continuing to exist is all the proof I need.
  5. I was at Blackburn today, looked good value, albeit with a very questionable penalty for handball at 1-0, for their 3-0 lead but HWU did well to force them back to 3-2 and made for a very decent final few mins - United on the break made it 4-2 with literally the final kick of the game. Shout out to the ref who was in the mood for booking literally every swear word uttered on the pitch - I don't believe I have ever seen take the rule so literally!
  6. The Last Resort is certainly one of my desert island discs. I lost interest in them after Frey died but they were a phenomenal band. Could be sat here all night posting their lyrics.
  7. One of my favourite albums ever. My favourite line of theirs was always: Who will provide the grand design, What is yours and what is mine? Because there is no more new frontier, We have got to make it here
  8. Don't confront me with my failures, I had not forgotten them
  9. I understand it if it helps with some sort of body/gender dysmorphia or disfigurement or whatever, but not for the over the top, exagerrated stuff. You look at half the creatures on Love Island and what have you and they look like they've done a week's all inclusive inside Grangemouth refinery.
  10. Two cowboys are out riding the trail when in the distance they see a Native American lying on the ground. One cowboy says to the other 'What they do here is incredible - they listen to the earth and use it to sense danger coming'. So they ride up and ask the man how it's going. 'Buffalo come' he replies. 'Wow, that's amazing, how can you tell?', asks one of the cowboys. 'Ear sticky'
  11. Try living in the West Midlands and being subjected to them called 'islands'! (Roundabouts, not people called Petrie.)
  12. On Birmingham buses at least, they carry readers that can tell if the bank card (i.e. your ticket) has been validated or not - presumably how they do it with Smartcards on trains and what have you.
  13. Fridays and Sundays are generally the worst, I'd probably avoid those. Saturday later in the afternoon (as above) don't tend to be too bad - as a rule of thumb Saturday nights are the quietest for long distance travel, but that depends what sport/events are on. More generally Mondays tend to be the quietest of the weekdays after the morning rush, then Tuesday/Wednesdays are much of a muchness, then Thursday is busier. In terms of time taken/frequency etc, these days Monday-Saturday all day and Sunday afternoons tend to be all the same. Sunday morning is a late start up but as the rest from midday or so.
  14. I'd honestly go back to all the towns and places I know now to see what they were like 50, 100, 150 years ago and what have you. What's changed, what x looked like before y happened, what was this pub or that ground really like...
  15. Ah, fair enough, I won't doubt you. In my ignorance I probably saw it and thought the Chinese government had thrown their authoritarian toys out of the pram, etc.
  16. Didn't the Chinese effort fall out because the government clamped down on it? In Saudi it is the state's own efforts.
  17. Normally the last thing you want in a Forest is wood on fire. I'll see myself out.
  18. Anyway, one that got on my tits yesterday was hotel receptions who put the 'Back in a minute' notice up when they go on a break. How is anyone meant to know when they left? Could have been gone 10 seconds or 10 minutes. Just write a time you're back on the thing ffs
  19. Back in my younger, naive days at work my (mild) hangover cure was always a litre bottle of orange juice and six pack of Mini Cheddars from Tesco on the way to work. These days we have working from home. Thank God.
  20. Found it! https://forum.pieandbovril.com/topic/286551-darvel-v-aberdeen-23rd-jan-live-on-bbc/page/49/#comment-15658891
  21. The David Mitchell / Bob Mortimer WILTY post when Darvel beat Aberdeen in the Cup last year.
  22. If I lived in Oldham I'd be delighted to fvck off for half a decade tbh
  23. The tale of that place fascinates me, not just the manner in which it was depopulated but the way of life of its people. I read one of those Amazon previews of a book on it once and it described some islanders being picked up by fisherman and taken to the crew's home port at Fleetwood. Must have been like going to the moon for them.
