Just a guess, but i doubt we would be offering much in the way of wages, we aren’t exactly cash rich! Plus Hopeman to Kirkcaldy must be a good 3.5hrs each way. Can’t see that being an attractive proposition for him.

I'm no fan of Mendy but it would make sense for us to recall him, at least on a temporary basis, while we are dealing with these ongoing suspensions in defence.
Agreed. We could surely do what Hibs are doing with Gullan. Recall him, put him on the bench while he’s needed and if, come the end of January, Anderson, Miller etc are all back then we can loan him out again.0 -
Campbell from Aberdeen and Ryan from along the road.

Don't think anyone is burying their head in the sand. It's pretty much universally recognised that the numbers don't make good reading.
However, it's a good chunk reduced from how it was the year previously. It's a step in the right direction, and doesn't include this season where the club have reduced the playing budget further and incorporated a part time element.
We were never really in a title race last season, so every home league game from Jan onwards was a nothing game. Whilst Starks Park will never be filled to the rafters, an extra few hundred fans through the gate if the team are going for the title will help.
I would imagine that going totally part time alone wouldn't make enough of a chunk in the deficit. Its also a far too simplistic view. A totally part time Rovers side would likely be pretty shite, meaning gates would be lower etc. Granted, another season in this league would mean we have to look at additional ways of trimming costs.
The club are trying to address it. The best and most obvious route to help the situation is by winning promotion which leads to higher gates and greater prize money. The club have tried to maintain a competitive squad whilst reducing the costs, and have released initiatives such as the players fund which has almost £5k per month.
Add to that a new hospitality/sponsorship lounge and a range of Cup anniversary merchandise that sold out very quickly. Nobody at Raith Rovers are sitting on their hands hoping this will go away. The harsh reality is that the club need promotion, and are trying to achieve that in a measured way.
It's not burying head in sand. Its a complex situation that has no easy answer, but steps are being taken and there at least some small signs its moving in the right direction.
Excellent post! [emoji122]0 -
I’ve heard he didn’t even make it to Spain hence why he’s with us for another week. A naughty boy he has been.
I’m embarrassed for you...0 -
Woah too far.
You're clearly not very bright so I won't take offence.
Would have given you a thumbs up if you’d said ‘affense’0 -

I actually think Watson, McKay and Tait have been stand out performers in the last few weeks. Watson’s ball down the channel for the 2nd goal was superb. I’m glad they have been finding confidence from a run in the team.
Don’t think it’ll be long until the sharks are circling for Tait.3 -
The first was soft the second was a defo yellow it was very badly timed challenge. Cant believe fans were clapping him off for being that daft.
I’ve never understood why fans do that. The player has let the team down ffs!1 -
Scottydog, any chance of a New Years resolution of not greetin about Hendry getting kicked?
We would expect our players to kick another teams danger man if he was running the show, Indeed folk like Sinky and Shaun are cult hero’s for doing just that.

Talk about scraping the bottom of the barrel Scotty boy. You seriously going back a decade to Willie Gray?
Even if he was (I have no knowledge of this) it's hardly relevant to Raith's massive unsustainable loss now is it?
You need to take less sugar on your Cheerios neebur.
When you say ‘unsustainable loss’ you do realise we have been in the red for about twenty years? Seems to be sustainable enough to me.0 -
The gamble is, do you throw money at it by saying if we could sign 3 or 4 players in Jan, does it guarantee us promotion at a cost of perhaps 80k?
The flip side is, what happens if it doesn’t work?2 -
FYI, currently Hibs show just three forwards on the first team. Scads of backs and mids, thou..haven’t dug into it..
The fact, that on fantalk, you have Steven Anderson down as being able to play RM tells me you’re probably wrong.1 -
Is Smith the new Tait for you?

I think Scottydog has been playing football manager too if he thinks that Bowie will be going to Spurs etc.

I don’t think they were ‘offered on a plate’. Livi offered a pittance and it was accepted by a board that were forced to accept any money offered to stave off the club going into administration.

We have 3 options for rb in Miller (when fit) Watson and mckay. Davo has done decent enough there in the past aswell. I'd prefer we looked for a left sided defender incase macdonald gets injured. Think I said this in August aswell and he's not really been injured. Striker seems a necessity, but I'd imagine it will depend on if baird is staying or not. He's maybe not scored as many goals as we'd like but he has contributed and is a good influence among the squad.
Interesting point, not sure I’d be too keen to sign someone as cover for MacDonald though, seems a bit of a waste. We could always push him into midfield though.
Sending Munro back and using Thomson/Mcgurn and using the loan market for someone else may also be food for thought.0 -
I don’t think we need another CM either. We have Spencer and Hendry who are better than anyone else in that position in this league. Matthews isn’t too shabby either. Add Tait, Miller and at a push, Davo to the list of players who can play there and we are pretty well covered.
I’d rather we looked at a right back and a striker.1 -
If you weren’t bothered about it then I very much doubt you’d have gone through our starting eleven line up, man by man, trying to prove or disprove a throw away term?
I think Watson and McKay deserve a fair bit of credit, they’ve come in and done very well over the last few weeks in what’s been a really difficult run of fixtures.
Hopefully Mcglynn gets the players in that he’s after in January (One being somebody Campbell from Aberdeen) and we can really push on in the second half of the season.1 -
I’m in disbelief that an EF fan is so rattled that he’s gone through every Rovers players stats to see how many games each of them has played. Absolute heads gone!

Watched the highlights....
MacDonald is the real thing. He’s a part-timer, but if he wants to, it certainly seems he has the potential to do it full-time. Anyone know what he does for a job and how dug in he is?
His dad owns a company that makes and fits automatic doors. He works with him.1 -
we Did last season and the stewards about got lamped with it lol
Take a thumbs up that man!
Out of interest, does anyone know how the allocation is usually split? If the ground holds 1900, is it a thousand for the home fans and 900 away?

We really have to be trying to get the maximum points here if all these injuries are actually true. Can't really work out if Spencer and/or Matthews is injured for Raith, some amount of rabble on this thread and the RR thread about it. Fingers crossed Anderson doesn't make it, we're pretty much at full-strength (aside Dunlop), and I hope that having Wallace back for this can make the difference especially to what seems like it'll be a bit of a patchwork defence in places.
ETA - seems our latest output has it down as "no tickets available", not sure if that means Rovers have sold out their end as well as us?
Spencer isn’t injured, the poster was on the wind up. Matthews has/had tonsillitis on Tuesday so not sure if he will still be ill come Saturday.
We can’t blame a defeat on injuries, we will have a strong enough squad available. If we lose then I’ll be down to a lack of quality and passion rather than a lack of numbers.0 -
Victoria being linked with a return to Stranraer in January.
That would make sense. He’s not really done much in the games he’s played and it would free up a wage! I can see Baird being let go at the end of his short term deal too.
I wonder if Bowie will be sold as well?0

I hope the wind doesn’t impede our goal shots today. I’d take a winner in overtime.
