Stranraer v Forfar AFC
Bridie Vision replied to SlipperyP's topic in Scottish League 1 General Chatter
Ah yes, the basement battle of who is less crap. Stranraer or Forfar? Neither team are brilliant at creating anything so could easily be another 0-0 for Forfar. If that's the case then Stuart Malcolm will have had three 0-0 draws in 6 games. Really exciting stuff! -

The defensive errors were not so much Travis and Whyte but started in midfield, although I agree Dumbarton got lucky. When Travis went off we looked very fragile. Any update on Travis's injury? -

Stuart Malcolm on his interview after the Dumbarton game basically said that he was happy with the defence over the past couple of weeks that he focused on attacking in training this week, so that definitely helped because we scored 3 goals but it also seemed that the whole team completely forgot what had been coached over the last weeks as defensive errors were a plenty! Wonder what he'll work on in training this week. Will we lose to Stranraer in a goal frenzy, or draw 0-0, or surprisingly might we actually win? -
4th goal shouldn't have counted, according to the highlights it doesn't cross the line. Ref had no clue, linesman was awful so they just decided to give Dumbarton the 3 points. I know our defending was bad but I think a draw would've been fair. Let's hope that referee decision doesn't prove to be a costly mistake come the end of the season!

Ross Forbes is a fantastic set piece taker, and he can play a sensational pass but he does tend to be a passenger when the going is tough. Also Forbes is only starting (I think) because Kirkpatrick is injured, before Kirky got injured Stuart started him alongside Hilson with Forbes on the bench. Our attacking options are very limited, see my comprehensive report : Dale Hilson - only decent striker we have. Ross Forbes - great at set pieces, doesn't offer much else. Jordan Kirkpatrick - has some good days but has more bad. Connor Coupe - great player but can't score and is definitely a winger not a striker. Andy Jackson - been ineffective all season, and has created nothing since his return from injury. Rory Currie - Waste of time getting him on loan. Russell McLean - Scored a nice goal on his debut, but has been useless since, was a desperation signing after all our strikers got injured.

Horrendous defending by Forfar at times today. Hope Travis's injury doesn't keep him out long. He might not be in great form (despite scoring twice) but he's the best CB we've got at the moment. Just when I thought we were starting to make progress we go and humiliate ourselves by chucking the lead away 3 times! On a positive note, we at least scored 3 times today, all from set pieces.

Beautiful goal from Sean Burns a few weeks ago in a closed door friendly and now an incredible Tapping goal in another closed door friendly. Unless someone filmed it doubt they'll be considered for the goal of the season competition. But why can't we score goals like those on a matchday, or even just score goals! -

This thread is so quiet. All we talk about on this thread are the Ultras who have now gone, I think. And how terrible the Stewarding at Station Park is. No transfer rumours no training ground gossip!? -
Scintillating football! Not. Mind you this match looks slightly better than the Raith 0-0 last week.

Another 0-0 game against Clyde. I'd normally be disappointed but we've not lost a league game under Stuart Malcolm yet and he seems to have secured the defence. He just desperately needs to improve our strikeforce. Any Forfar fans at the game?

Stuart Malcolm was very complimentary of Jim Weir's recruitment in his interview on Saturday, wonder how many people he'll try and sign in January? -
Just as surprised as we were when we signed a useless Montrose benchwarmer on loan (although at the time all our strikers were injured) and MacPhee from Formartine was because Jim Weir didn't like Sean Burns at LB, but MacPhee has since disappeared off the face of the earth. Some of the lads sneaked on alcohol onto the supporters bus, despite a zero alcohol warning, after that they complained about the fans, board and supporters club. But to be fair both sides should take a measure of blame. There's a whole load of posts on the Forfar Athletic thread where we all debate in favour/against the LoonsOnTour (what the ultras called themselves).
-
Well I'm pretty sure the Forfar ultras won't be there making noise. Think they've left the terraces after the Dumbarton drinking incident.

How many yellows is it before a suspension? Feels like Trav has had about 12 yellows already. I'm sure Gary Irvine must be up there as well, and Marc McCallum has about 4 all for timewasting.

After winning on Saturday I don't know if we have turned a corner or if it was just a one-off. I'd like to be optimistic and say we'll give Clyde a good fight.

Stunning free kick from Ross Forbes
-
Always liked Murray, maybe because he was part of our U20s - along with Michael Kennedy & Matty Aitken. Forbes is so much better centrally rather than out wide. He's fairly lazy so he's much better as a playmaker rather than a wide player cutting inside.

The reaction after the penalty was the best reaction I'd seen from this Forfar squad in a long time!

We'll gladly take him off your hands until he needs to go back to Australia!
