With Buckie they were automatically out of the play offs when they didn't apply to the SPFL before March 31st, it wasn't just about licensing. Looks like communication between the SFA and SPFL was insufficient as it was clear that those talks were pointless in regards to the play offs, that boat had already sailed. For City they make perfect sense with the July 1st deadline.

Yeah I'm aware of all that, but my point is that talking with the SPFL/SFA right upto the deadline isn't an indication of meeting requirements or not.

Buckie didn't apply for a period of grace, City did and got it, big difference.

The period of grace ends 1st July.  The comparison with Buckie was that, like EC, they were in discussions with the SPFL/SFA right upto the deadline and still received a kick in the knackers, so ongoing discussions are in themselves not a sign you're going to get the licence.

Statement out now. Essentially, chill out everyone.

I know Buckie were in discussions as well but there's obviously questions around how keen they actually were, whereas we're absolutely mad for getting the license.

For such a small club we don't half punch above our weight in terms of drama

Well that clears it up, "fingers crossed we get a licence", not a lot different from Buckie who were in discussions a day or two before the decision.

If you’re punting teams out the league based on grounds then Forthbank would be one of the last to fall. Four sides with a mixture of terracing and seats, the perfect size for a club like the Binos. Easy to create a good atmosphere. Close enough to facilities and the city. Plenty of parking, and absolutely stunning views when the game is rubbish.

Watching Uni games there like you’ll be used to is probably a bit miserable, granted. But it is exactly what I wish The Rock was like.

Maybe I'm being a bit unfair on Forthbank.  It looks a proper stadium but in reality it's soulless most of the time and yes I've been there for both Binos and Uni games, and there's more atmosphere on the moon.  It only comes alive when it's reasonably full with the terracing open.

One for the Terrible Journalism thread.  It's already well known that there are a few existing teams without a bronze licence and that they have a grace period to comply.  The article doesn't contain any information about where City may be struggling to comply and there is no quote from City or a statement that they declined to comment.  I need to give myself a slap for falling into their clickbait trap.............

The grace period ends on 1st July, and in theory at least all SPFL clubs at that point must have a Bronze licence. That's mentioned in the article.  It's probably not too much of a stretch to imagine EC failing to meet the more stringent financial requirements of Bronze.  However you're right, it's the tabloids where facts are thin on the ground.

My recollection was that additional "guest clubs" were to apply by end of the calendar year and by the end of January it was supposed to be all settled.

No announcement presumably means no additional B teams next season.

It's Celtic and Hearts for the next two seasons, with the option for a third if the clubs want it.  Not sure what happens if any more want in on it at the end of next season.

Could we yet see Edinburgh Uni grace the Lowland for another season?

Fairly sure if any club withdraws it's filled by application.

Where are you seeing this?   Their management team left 2 weeks ago.

The level of investment at each club has increased markedly within the confines of MKs spells, and has decreased almost more rapidly after.

We are literally chasing feathers in the wind here.

I think the whole point here was that Darvel and EK don't depend on any alleged money being brought to the club by a manager.

Darvel have had a very wealthy owner for the last eight years, that owner is now leaving at the end of the season so there's a little more to their financial woes than MK leaving.

Likewise EK are where they are due to having wealthy owners who have their sights firmly set on the SPFL and have done since day 1.  Again, if MK leaves then that won't derail it.

To use it as a stick to beat EK, or the LL or the Pyramid by some fans of clubs who have stunk out the SPFL for too long is a sight to behold, particulary as their own clubs aren't squeekly clean either.

 you do realise more than one singular person can provide funding to help a club spend massively outwith it’s means? You probably don’t because you clearly have the IQ of a dug.

I do indeed, but a Dumbarton fan getting gobby at the Lowland League and it's clubs over ownership and money is in a very small glass house.  Careful what you wish for, the greasy pole also works downwards as well as up, maybe Broomhill will buy you.

In the space of about 3 posts you’ve gone from telling us Mick the Dick doesn’t fund EK to telling us he certainly does fund EK.

What an utter zoomer you are  you’d be as well vacating this thread at the earliest opportunity because you are just littering it with relentless drivel.

Listen daftie, John Gall funds Darvel, he funded them before MK appeared, the guy is a very wealthy man.

A Dumbarton fan, a club with an ownership structure that would mystify anyone, has a go at LL and EK and the way they're funded. Remarkable 😂

Is it beyond your comprehension that MK could have been putting his own money into whatever club he was at in addition to others? As an example, one of the players he signed for Darvel was Darren Miller who, at that time at the very least, worked for MK business.

    See above 🤦‍♂️

  14. 2 minutes ago, RateofKnots said:

I hope EK thrive, whatever the future brings. I made that clear. If you choose to believe MK is a non funding selfless individual, there's not much I can say to change that, obviously.

I didn't say MK doesn't put funding in when at these clubs, he almost certainly did/does via his company, but Darvel are (or were) owned my a multi-millionaire as are EK and they were spending big before MK came along to either club.

  15. 1 minute ago, The Moonster said:

Literally every side Kennedy has managed has spent well beyond the level they're at and two of those clubs met financial problems after he left. If you want to pretend this utter goon isn't ploughing his own money into these clubs that's fine, I prefer reality.

😂  you really are a zoomer.

  16. 9 minutes ago, RateofKnots said:

It's how he conducts himself. He brought all the money to Darvel, then it vanished with him. I suspect the same will happen at EK. And I don't think that's fair on those with the long term interests of EK at heart.

You are 100% right that the vast majority of managers would do it, but there are enough charlatans involved in SPFL football.

EK arent funded by MK, EK have been very well funded long before him.   Also John Gall was the money man at Darvel.

Teams like EK need to find a niche and this will take years to make it sustainable. It’s definitely not a quick fix solved by promotion to L2 / chucking money at it short term - you need to find a way to get kids to support your team to build that supporter base long term, and you need to do that early ….. we all know once you’ve chosen your team, that’s it you don’t switch. And for the smaller teams that’s difficult because kids will follow the “big” / successful teams (basically the OF) and let’s be honest, most will follow the team their Dad supports (again the big teams).

The way to do it is build good kids teams and encourage the kids to support their local team. At Bonnyrigg we have excellent kids coaching for toddlers and all through the age groups. The other thing we’ve encouraged are the “Ultras”, kids aged 8-12 standing behind the goals with their flags, drums, megaphones and songs …. firstly, the wee guys make a great noise which makes a bit of atmosphere and secondly you hope some of these kids will become regular paying fans. Now most of these wee guys will grow up to be Hearts / Hibs paying fans but if you can keep some as Bonnyrigg regulars and others supporting the Rose as their “other” team, then that’s definitely sustainable growth.

    A cursory glance at EK's website says;

"The club has more than 20 teams and over 500 players. These range from under 10’s through all age groups up to adult. We also have a thriving Sunday Club for children with Additional Support Needs and an ever growing Girls Section with girls from age 10 to 15 years."

Also, when I was at a game at K-Park earlier in the season, they had a noisy group of young Ultras, and the committee/helpers appear to be mostly younger than 50, which is a rarity at this level.

I'm not a cheerleader for EK, watching football at K-Park isn't a great experience IMO and hopefullly they get a new ground sorted soon, but some of the stuff on here about them is daft and ill informed nonsense.

From another thread, apparently EK’s average attendance this year was 247. Pretty poor for a winning side in a town of around 80000 people.

I stand corrected by a better informed poster. Seems that 273 is the figure. Still poor. Less than Kelty got. Their crowds went up when they got into the SPFL but down now in League 1, presumably as they’re not winning every week and the novelty has worn off.

But as has been shown, it's increasing every season and EK are a club that's 10 years old. I'd say it's fairly respectable given they're tier 5, and this season it's comparable to "traditional" clubs Albion Rovers and Cowdenbeath.

If they get into L2, I'd expect it to double at least, and if they get their new ground on the go and provide a better experience than K-Park, it will increase again.
