Don't get me wrong, I'm not against the principle that the highest ranked licensed team should get the play-off place (although by the end of the season, not 31st March). I just think it would take more than a little bit of persuasion to get the other three leagues (who have had access to licnsing for a lot longer than the WoSFL) to buy into the concept, especially the Lowland League clubs.

I don't disagree it may not be easy to get agreement, but if nobody tries then it definitely won't happen.

  2. Top three in the WoS, EoS, SoS should be eligible for the play-off, the highest placed licenced club in each league (as at 31st March) taking part.

That would resolve issues such as Beith blocking the pathway from the WoS (although I appreciate it's not neccesarily their intention).

As has been pointed out, if Airdrie can potentially play their way into the Premiership after finishing 4th, then I don't see what the issue is with applying a similar scenario at tier 6.

If it had cover on the terrace opposite the stand it might be my favourite ground in non-league anywhere in the country. There are grounds with more history, atmosphere and romance, and much better places to reach by public transport. But as a place to sit or stand and watch a game with a crowd of a few hundred it's close to perfect.

Sadly there's rarely a few hundred there, 50 last night I think.  Fairly soulless place when virtually empty, like most grounds.  Not sure how Tynecastle sustain the level they're at.

That’s what it seemed like to me. It seems totally inappropriate for a football club (at this level) to do that based on a promise of sponsorship/investment.

Assuming that's right, what on earth are they doing risking the clubs future by doing that?  By all means, projects like this are welcome IF you have the cash/backing to do it with no impact to the club.

Looks like Shire are sadly in some sort of financial difficulty. It’s a bit of a strange explanation.

I'm trying to work out what they mean.   I assume the club have put money into a charitable pursuit based on promises of investment.  That investment hasn't happened and now the club have a financial hole to fill? It's hard to work out really.

    Premiere Sports Cup

The SPFL has today invited Highland League winners Buckie Thistle, Highland League runners-up Brechin City, and Lowland League winners East Kilbride to join next season’s competition.

This follows last season's competition, when the champions of the Lowland League and Highland League, plus one additional Lowland League club, were invited to participate.

Once confirmed, the clubs will be added to the draw for the group stage of next year’s competition, which will take place on Wednesday 29 May at 1.00pm.

I think sometimes the SPFL just troll tier 5 for the bantz.

Yes we all know the HL Champs will get an invite, but following hard on the heels of play-off refusal, it just makes the SPFL look clueless. Again.

Thanks, makes sense, with all the licence talk I wondered if there was an incentive for going for Bronze other than to be promoted to the SPFL.

Long term it probably is, but depends how much a Doctor costs for 15-20 home games when you don't actually need one in tier 5, plus other associated costs.

That's the dilemma, and clubs who are in with the chance of the play-offs will take it right to the wire as they wont want to be shelling out more than neccesary if they don't get to the play-offs.

A set one year derogation to complete the Bronze process, upon promotion, would go a long way to helping clubs, as would the removal of the doctor requirement which seems excessive.

The amount paid to each club is based on the licence level they hold - pyramid position has no bearing on it

    Yip you're right, just found an old SFA email which is the payment in Dec 2021;

    • Entry Level clubs will receive £10,000 (CL award £4,000 plus £6,000 Euro bonus)

    • Bronze Level clubs will receive £20,000 (CL award £8,000 plus £12,000 Euro bonus)

    • Silver Level clubs will receive £30,000 (CL award £12,000 plus £18,000 Euro bonus)

    • Gold Level clubs will receive £40,000 (CL award £16,000 plus £24,000 Euro bonus)

    • Platinum Level clubs will receive £50,000 (CL award £20,000 plus £30,000 Euro bonus)

Clubs should receive another Euro bonus payment this year due to Scotland qualifying for Euro24.

Do you know if the profit is shared equally between all members or does it depend on a club's licence level or where they are in the pyramid?

Also, shame on Bo'ness for not bothering reporting half their attendances @Deanburn Dave etc

From memory it's level within the Pyramid as opposed to licence.

Do you really hate a team that much that you want them to die ???

There's many a team that i don't reckon is up to much but no way would I ever want a team out of existence !!!

Ok - they have moved around a few stadium's - but they certainly won't have got to play wherever for nowt.

Am sure the money allows those clubs to benefit from the extra income !

I'm fairly sure not many people would shed any tears if they did.  It's literally a pointless existence.

    1) Buckie get removed from the play-offs

    2) EK beat Club 42

    3) EK are excluded from entry to the SPFL because it is found that their doctor is actually a vet or their diversity plan is antisemitic or something.

    4) Applying the League Cup Precedent, Cowdenbeath are invited to take the SPFL place - which was the plan aaaaall along.

This is actually less mental than some of the stuff on the conspiracy theories thread.

All correct until 4)   It's Hearts B as runners-up, not Cowdenbeath.

"The club is endeavouring to get to the bottom of the decision to remove us from this weekend's play-off semi final against East Kilbride FC."

"Club officials attended meetings and had discussions with both the SPFL and SFA on Tuesday and Wednesday this week, but no indication was given at any point that Saturday's fixture was in doubt."

"Attached is a screenshot from the Decision Note issued by the SFA, which clearly states a decision on the Bronze Licence is deferred until the 15th of May. Buckie Thistle were awarded derogations on 3 of the items mentioned, and given until 15th May to resolve the Medical items."

"After further discussions with the SFA this morning, we are now looking into the possibility of taking this to Arbitration, as per Article 99 of the SFA handbook."

"Further updates will be provided in due course."

Livingston B will play games at the main stadium, so bring with them proper facilities, same with the Gala application, and they'll start at the bottom.  I don't see any reason not to allow them to join as long as they tick all boxes.

Both refused, so I guess they didn't tick all the boxes.

In my limited experience, smaller clubs will talk a Doctor who supports the team in to doing it.

In my experience when having to find one, it was a matter of a mate of a mate who agreed to do it, who was about 100 miles away. The local surgery wasn't interested.  He wrote the letter and that was enough, it was also all he ever did.

Completely pointless, but a box that had to be ticked at the time.

In a wild case of "hold my beer", the Brechin chairman's out-doing how badly Buckie and SFA/SPFL emerge from this by attacking Highland League for... letting Buckie play Strathspey twice and on time:

Buckie Thistle ban makes 'mockery' of SPFL pyramid as raging Brechin City chief blasts Highland League - Daily Record

Raging Brechin City chairman Kevin Mackie was blasted the Highland League for making a "mockery" of the Scottish football pyramid after champions Buckie Thistle were booted out of the playoffs.

Graeme Stewart's side clinched the league title on goal difference from the Glebe Park outfit, to set up what they thought would be a chance at promotion to League Two with a two-legged play off against Lowland League winners East Kilbride for the chance to face off against club 42 for a crack at league football next season. But they have sensationally been denied their shot at promotion after failing to obtain an SFA bronze licence. The governing body released a statement on Thursday confirming that Buckie were ineligible for the playoffs, and that East Kilbride would go straight through to play the SPFL's bottom club for a shot at promotion - likely to be either Clyde, Stranraer or Bonnyrigg Rose.

    Now
Brechin chief Mackie has let rip at the Highland League, demanding to know why they re-arranged two Buckie games against hapless Strathspey Thistle. Thistle rattled 13 goals past them to help claim the crown, but have now seen their dreams crushed after "failing to respond" to reminders to ask league bosses for a grace period in order to gain the licence - something the club insists they did.

"I am raging with the Highland League," Mackie told the Daily Mail. "This makes a mockery of the entire pyramid. This whole thing is shambolic and the Highland League needs to take a look at itself. They would have known that the champions had to be eligible for the play-offs and I am annoyed that they haven't made sure the champions could meet the criteria required. "They went out of their way to rearrange Buckie's outstanding games against Strathspey the other week when they knew that Strathspey had let in 133 goals and were miles below everyone else at the bottom of the league. We questioned then how a team going for the title could have two rearranged games against Strathspey when they didn't have a team and were fielding trialists? Unsurprisingly they won 6-1 and 7-0 and beat us to the title by two goals. How can that be fair?".

    Dear me.....
