  1. Can anyone remember such an abject series of results in a season against one opponent? I can’t in 45+ years.

    V United this season - P4 L4 F0 A17

Wouldn’t mind so much if United were destroying everyone else and romping the league but they’ve struggled against pretty much everyone else at points this season and lost 4 and drawn 7.

Even when we crossed paths with Rangers in 2013/14 we scored a few goals and ran them close in two of the games.

Didn’t expect much but still, it’s fucking embarrassing.

Bunch of DAB's v bunch of closet DAB's. In this Angus love-fest.

Probably all join hands and sing about how much they hate Dundee.

    Score draw.

    Thank you.

This post will probably make your head explode.

2 very memorable games that I’ve been to at Dens Park:

14 May 1983 - stood behind the goals in the United end and cheered as they won the league. Although I’m an Arbroath fan, it was great to be there to see history being made.

2 May 1992 - sat in the Derry as Dundee lost 1-2 to Montrose in the final game of the season. Didn’t matter though as Dundee were already champions. Enjoyed being part of the post-match pitch invasion. Something I wouldn’t get to do with Arbroath until 6 years later.

Been to plenty other games at Dens and Tannadice, and many other grounds in Scotland, and further afield, as a neutral.

Some of us just like football.

I must admit though, I’m impressed that you didn’t mention Jim McIntyre.

  3. Haven’t laid a glove on United this season so glad to get games against them out of the way.

While every other team in the league has caused them problems and made them look no better than slightly above average, we have made them look like Brazil 1970.

Heart - draw, head - comfortable United win.

  4. Arbroath fan here. Always had a wee soft spot for Stenny, maroon kit I suppose. Really hoping you guys can do it this season, I know it won’t feel like it at the moment but from the outside, it looks like you’ll do it at a canter.

Our first title was also a very long time in coming - 2010/11 and we’ve managed to add another two since then so hopefully this is the start of good times for Stenny. The way things are going for us we’ll likely meet next season, hopefully not but if we do then looking forward to trips to Ochilview.

Keep it up and all the best for the rest of the season.

Ricky is an absolute legend for this club. 11 seasons with total commitment. I hope people manage to go to his testimonial dinner as he deserves as much recognition as Bobby got. Great centre half partnerships with Hamilton in the League 2 winning season and then forming one of the best partnerships I've seen with TOB. Played every game in our League 1 winning campaign and definitely one of my all time favourite players.

Yep. I’ve been fairly critical of Little of late but thought he was excellent last night, their second goal aside.

  6. f**k me, what a range of emotions tonight. Decided not to bother driving down from Aberdeen for the game. Didn’t even flinch when Rovers went 1 and then 2 up, just thought “oh well it’s been a blast”. 27 minutes later I’m jumping around the house, cat is still hiding under the bed and my wife thinks I’m mental.

    What a comeback!!!!

  7. If Rovers don’t win this at an absolute canter then their entire squad and management need launched one-by-one into the North Sea from that bouncy trampoline thing behind the Switchie end at Gayfield.

Arbroath are not a wounded animal, we are roadkill. 8 points out of the last 54 and 2 goals so far in 2024.

11 Ali Adams’ wouldn’t save us.

Just look at that defence tonight.

Little just back from long term injury and played 40 minutes before tonight. But has struggled for a while now.

Walker barely played anything since mid November. Back from injury and 90 mins before tonight.

Teale on loan and probably our only fully fit natural defender.

And Stewart a right winger who at times looks great at the back and other times poor. Doing the best he can and no one cam fault his effort.

On top of that no Hammy, ToB, Steele or Delaney of which at least 3 of them would probably be our first choice defenders right now if fully fit.

This season has been a disaster at the back and i cant blame McIntyre for it. Been dealt the shittest of hands. He just cant get a fit and stable defence to work with to build upon like Dick had for pretty much 6 years.

    Things will improve.

Undoubtably the defensive situation has played a major part in our downfall but that can’t be blamed for the fact that we’ve only scored 2 goals in 2024.

  9. I’m not blaming McIntyre as he was dealt a massive shitty hand which was compounded by a ludicrous injury situation. However, it’s pretty apparent that he’s just not the man for the job. We have got worse with time, with some of his own signings and players coming back from injury. We were arguably better and more competitive with our sub goalie playing outfield ffs.

As I said, I’m not blaming him - blame lies with Campbell and ultimately the board.

We are in such a mess,

The last season and a half have been a complete shambles,

There is absolutely no chance we are escaping relegation again, we had a wee boost when the new manager come in and had some better performances, but that seems a distant memory now

Have to agree with all of this. Saturday was terrible and we were incredibly lucky to escape with a point. ICT could have easily scored 3 or 4. Wasn’t at Dunfermline but that was just as bad by all accounts. Tonight is shaping up to be a pumping. These are 3 games that were earmarked as winnable or the dreaded “must win” against teams in the bottom half of the table. We’ve had 2 poor, scraped draws and a doing in progress.

    Absolutely dreading Friday.

Unlike some here - I’m not positive about next season at all. I’ve seen far too many teams over the years get into a downward spiral which is incredibly difficult to get out of.

  11. I know I shouldn’t be looking at it but some absolutely mental takes on Facebook. Supposedly we were robbed, it was all the refs fault, played well and deserved the win, ref played until they scored blah blah blah.

Yes the very late goal was a sickener but anyone who thought we deserved the win obviously wasn’t watching the game. Need to see the highlights back but Inverness missed 3 or 4 sitters, a couple of decent looking penalty shouts, Boruc had a few saves to make and there were enough injuries and subs etc to easily merit that amount of injury time. On the other hand we supposedly had two shots on target, although I can only remember one and a few shots and half chances. Yet again Ridgers was put under pretty much no pressure by Arbroath. He must absolutely fucking love playing us.

Positives - a goal, Reilly looks good, McKenna back.

Aye but you have to remember since McIntyre has come in he has not had our best full strength squad to play with. Alot makeshift teams and bad luck.

We keep ourselves within touching distance then anything can happen.

A front 4 of Reilly, McKenna, Bird and Mcintosh is far stronger than a Turan, Dow, Robinson and Stowe front 4.

Add to that Little back, ToB hopefully back soon and possibly Delaney then we will be in a far better playing position than at any point in McIntyres tenure.

Yeah I agree with all of this to an extent - the problem is there’s only 12 games left and we’re still a fair bit away from looking like winning games. If there were 20 games left then I’d feel fairly optimistic but there isn’t. We also have a massive negative goal difference which is a big worry too.

Another thing that struck me about today was how morgue like it was. Even if the bad old days of 300-400 crowds and scrabbling around at the very bottom of the very bottom, I don’t remember it being that bad. Just seems like a feeling of resignation.

Still only 9 points behind 5th. 36 points to play for.

We still have a chance to stay up as this league is dog eat dog. Big game against QP on Tuesday. Be a great time to get 3 points and be only 6 points off 5th.

2 draws is not ideal but hopefully now we can start gaining momentum with McKenna and Little back and Reilly down the wing.

By my reckoning, we’ve taken 8 points out of the last 51 and haven’t looked like taking any more than that.

If we can’t beat Dunfermline and ICT then who can we beat? and let’s be brutally honest, we were lucky to take anything from those games. Inverness could have scored 3 or 4 easy today, we had 2 on target.

One good thing about today is that it’s shown we have to play Reilly from the start. We definitely improved when he came on and Bird and McKenna too.

The first half today was abject - a game we really had to win and we did f**k all, nothing - no energy, no effort, no urgency. Was like a pre season friendly.

A point would still only leave you 6 behind with a game in hand though, no idea who that is against but. Still leaves you in the battle whereas a lose probably wouldn’t.

Yeah but if we can’t pick up points against our relegation rivals, then who (and when) are we going to get points against. Our record since September is horrific. Only our run of 4 wins in a row then is keeping us even remotely in touch.

  15. Happy enough with that - untested at this level but a natural goalscorer so here’s hoping.

The club really need to stop with this countdown to an announcement nonsense though as the speculation just goes OTT - we had Nouble, Hylton, Linn, May all mentioned. Just announce it at 11:00 ffs without the buildup.

Has to be Cove surely. One season in the league, f**k all fans even for Highland League standards, never been in the top flight, tinpot ground in the middle of nowhere.

Like even though Gretna are technically a smaller team the impact they had on Scottish football is massive - if you say “doing a Gretna” or similar everyone knows what you mean. They even made a cup final and are generally just a laughing stock.

Cove is just somewhere Aberdeen fans go when their big team plays away - a total non-entity of a team.

Nah, has to be Gretna. A random non league team playing in the English Northern Premier, or whatever it was, chosen by a millionaire to chuck money at to see how far he could take them. Only for it all to come collapsing down after a few short years when he died and the money dried up. Back at their level now.

Yes, Cove have had money chucked at them and are where they are mainly because of that but they’ve worked their way up from the Juniors to Highland League and through L2 and L1 to a single unsuccessful Championship season and are now competing again in L1 - hopefully with a little more humility and realism.

Although they have a very small fanbase relative to their success, I have no doubt that they’ll still be around even when the money dries up. Do I think they’ll ever be challengers to the Dons in Aberdeen? Absolutely zero chance of that but I can see them stumble around somewhere between the HL and Championship in perpetuity and at least “in theory” they have potential to be a bigger more successful team.

Draw isn’t a good enough. Dunfermline pish and we’ve left with a point.

The last game v Dunfermline still annoys me more than any other game this season. Well on top and cruising (well, maybe not cruising but certainly comfortable) before… well we all know the rest. That 2 points chucked that day could define our season.
