Agree about physicality to young and too easily bullied. Ferguson a prime example. Not up to it yet picked every week, must have been a clause in his loan deal that if fit he has to play. Goss failed with us before. Move on

Goss a young skinny boy before now developed in every way into a handful for any defence.

I can't believe anyone does not rate him but as been mentioned can't see him going full time with us as he would be worse off.

Doubt Tommy will go full time again

We would have to up our wages for him or any part time player to consider signing for us or we could consider a hybrid model to give players the option of stayng part time .   .Goss is the type of player that you need for the physical stuff in League 1 last sesaon we had too many nice players who disappeared when the going got tough

A cracking, solid job. Work on a tight budget and smaller squad with largely local boys. Don’t get the negativity towards the appointment, we have done young and untested. Murphy has 7 seasons in the bank, a steady set of hands for me which the club is needing. The job this season with annan was nothing short of remarkable giving what they were up against. The last quarter especially.

hoping to see us dip back to Annan, for 2/3 players, Luissinit especially giving the season he had and the obvious impact Murphy etc had on him. Galloway possibly another, Douglas always impressed but unsure on his job circumstance

Surely our first dip into Annan squad should be to try and get Tommy Goss then Luissinit both have the physical presence we need .

Goss at times a bit raw but with his size he will get and players roundabout him goals .The problem signing any part time player  is money they will make more working and playing part time very difficult to persuade any player to sign  full time on less money .

We can only hope Murphy has been given a competitive budget certainly more  than Bartley had  or it will be very difficult to get the players in he  wants .

On the present squad really only Lewis Gibson is a stand out for me possibly try and keep  Connelly and Todd but not bothered about anyone else .

And Greenacres already gloomy as, being Greenacres, and having the financial facts at his fingertips before the new board are even in the door, he knows Murphy won't be given a competitive budget so will struggle to sign... anyone... and be doomed to failure as a result.

On another note, I hope he doesn't bring Kilsby back even if he did get a tune out of him at Annan.

Kilsby been released from Carlisle .

It is not being gloomy just realistic .

Give Murphy a competitive budget we have a chance hopefully that will happen but going on what Bartley was saying it is very difficult to get players to sign full time with us when they can make so much more working and playing part time

Given his focus of Goss I really wouldn't be surprised to see him return. Though I thought he had an apprenticeship now (or had qualified)? Be mental to chuck it to go FT with us. Can't say I'd be too keen either.

Luissant has looked ok at times but seems to go missing for long spells as well. I'd actually be happy to get Gibson back

Hopefully we can sign Annan better players but this is our problem a player from Annan will make more with a decent job and playing part time with them.

Hopefully our new director and eventually board will really back Murphy with a decent budget if not he has a very difficult job of trying to attract decent full time players .

I would be more surprised if it did pass the Health & Safety check this year. There’s no way it would be evacuated safely in the event of a fire.

God knows how it has passed in the last  10-15 years to be fair.

As you say Palmy pie, the end must be nigh for the old main stand. About time too.

Okay the old stand is past it best the dressing rooms even let the rain water in but we have to try and patch it up .

We don't have millions to build a new stand so it will have to do it is the least of our problems.

I think in most cases this is a huge backward step for clubs and doesn't bring the benefits that people expect.

The simplest argument is to look at the league tables, Arbroath were an outlier for a few seasons but are now back down, next season there won't be a part-time team above League 1 (unless Montrose or Alloa win play-offs obviously). Apart from Arbroath, very few part-time teams have escaped League 1 in recent years and those that did soon dropped back down. There's not much evidence to suggest it's an effective strategy, Arbroath did well by it but they had a well established core of experienced players and manager built up over a few years. Queens would be starting from scratch.

There is an assumption that by going part-time you then get pick of the bunch, but that's also not the case. Infact you can end up moving into a market where clubs can still out-compete you financially but now you don't even have the lure of full-time football to tempt them. There's plenty money in the lower leagues now and whoever the next Darvel, Cove, Edinburgh City, Kelty, East Kilbride etc is could pay more. So you still don't necessarily get the best part-timers and now you don't have any of the benefits that full-time should bring either. An extreme example of that is us signing Dylan Easton from Kelty in the Lowland League. He will have been on the same or probably more at Kelty, but it was the chance to play full-time that meant he signed, and then won POTY that season. We'd never have got him if we were part-time.

I see loads of parallels between Queens and Airdrie a decade ago. Like Queens, we were hanging on to full-time football for dear life with crowds that could barely sustain it and had the decision to make. Went part-time for a few seasons which just resulted in us getting worse, being a relegation threatened side for a couple of years and crowds falling further. When we went hybrid things started to turn as the offer of effectively going full-time for players attracted better players.

I think the market for clubs like us and Queens at that level is guys who were full-time, have had to drop to part-time and want one last shot at full-time. They are usually in their early twenties and have already played 100+ games so aren't young lads with no experience, they are highly motivated as they know it's their last shot, and obviously have ability or they wouldn't have been at a higher level previously. Our promotion winning team was built on these types of players, most of which are still playing with us now - Frizzell from Dumbarton, Gallagher from Dumbarton, Watson from East Fife, Ballantyne from Montrose, plus Easton from Kelty. Add in a few younger players and couple of experienced heads and that's a good mix. Of course the problem is that requires good knowledge of the lower leagues and good recruitment.

Everything comes down to what you can afford ultimately, but for any club with aspirations to get into the Championship going part-time seems a backward move.

With our budget being full time is actually holding us back.

We need experienced decent players only way we can get that is going part time pay what we do now to our full time players think you will find the better part time players will sign for us .

At our level is a full time player any better than part time certainly fitness wise nowadays no difference.

This we must be full time is like a advantage to us well the last 2 seasons have shown no difference from any part time team we have played

Billy Dodds would be a good appointment. Don't think Murphy will move. Kevin Thomson might be worth a shout as he'll be needing a job sooner rather than later to stay relevant.

I have no problem with Billy Dodds but he is unlikely to be interested..

My choice is Iain McCall has just done a great job at Clyde.

Our new director is best friends with Peter Murphy at Annan does that make him a favourite.

Jeezo, that's a bit of a stretch ... check back in when we know who the new manager is, when we know what players he's recruited and whether or not the rumours are that we are FT or not.

We must get back to part time football.

Marv gave a good example we were interested in Edinburgh City players in the New Year but they were on much the same money part time as our full time players.

Even right now another example is  Tommy Goss he will make more money working and playing  at Annan

If we are part time then  we can pay top end wages attract the better player rather than sign boys in the hope they suddenly become men overnight

You've pretty much answered your own question in that 'sometimes' they bring in their own man.... however you are correct in that normally there is a bum on seat usually... this is a much different case in that he's gone so if it was myself coming in with a new group of directors, you would hope that you had a say in the start of something new and fresh... what happened if the new board didn't like the new manager... would they have to pay out to replace him?

This just leads to my thought that we won't see much change in the board for next season as obviously no one else bar Mr McLinden has been accepted

In regards to the sacking at AGM then of course there wouldn't have been a manager in place, probably someone put in until the end of the season to tie in with the boards departure (or not departure)

The board said at the AGM that they would all leave at the end of May .

In order to say that they must have replacements lined up to take over otherwise why say it .

Are you saying that Hewitson is trying to come back as some kind of hero as nobody else wants to join the board .

One thing for sure  we need the new board sorted quickly then we can move forward with a new manager .

Murphy best friends with our new director even go on hoilday together that to me makes him a strong favourite for the job.

Me I would take McCall he has the experience we need

One thing for sure we simply cannot take too long in appointing another management team. One would like to think that the current Board had thoughts on a replacement for MB before they terminated his contract. Players are about to be out of contract (Gibson) and we need to move quickly before the few we want to keep move on. The players will also want to know who they will be playing for. Equally any prospective manager will want to know who he will be working for. Worrying times for sure. As for who could do a job for us, well Lee Bullen always impressed me the way he conducted himself at Ayr United so he may be worth looking at, but please no McIntyre, Dodds, McCall.

Why not McCall okay he is not liked by everyone but he has the experience we need plus has just done a brilliant job keeping Clyde up .

Dobbie credits McCall with getting his career going again speaks very highly of him .

We can't hang about get a new board in then a new manager in as quick as we can.

Agree not only options but you surely are having a laugh saying Murphy is more ambitious than McCall. I think McCalls track record shows considerably more evidence of promotional success than Murphy’s or am I wrong?

Murphy has not the experience we need massive step up from managing Annan .

McCall is the man for me he has just done a great job keeping Clyde up has the experience we need plus it was him who signed Stephen Dobbie who speaks very highly of him.

  13. 5 minutes ago, QoS99 said:

Surely it’s an open goal to go get McCall now, his contract is done with Clyde after keeping them up and he’s been up through the play offs before.

McCall for me not sure his contact situation at Clyde but if out of contract we must  try and get him .

I got told opposite by someone working for the club. He said that the cost in putting down the pitch (grants not covering all of it) should mean we have a slightly larger budget. Dunno how true that is though.

No way will we have a bigger budget we are nearing a £300,000 loss this season the pitch cost around £90,000.

You can't have full time football on crowds under 1000.

Many fans see it as a backward step but we must get back to part time football the level of full time players we can attract has made it the worse season for many years.

Only thing but highly unlikely is if the new board really invest in the playing squad then we have a chance of doing something next season all about money look at Raith Rovers similar size club but now have investment they are  night and day from a few years back .

Well, he's definitely going to be in situ until the new board has been formed.  It's starting to become a major concern that it would seem that only one suitable director has been identified or put themselves forward in the two months since the current mob, who clearly have no intention of dealing with the Bartley problem, announced that they would stepping down.  This makes it all the more essential that Hewitson & Co ramp up their efforts to get a new board is in place asap, a new board who recognise that binning Bartley before the summer transfer window opens in order to prevent him from overseeing another summer recruitment shambles is an immediate priority.

I would like to think Hewitson and Co already have board members lined up to take over .

The sooner they announce it the better I for one will not renew my season ticket untill a new board is in place with a new manager .

It has clearly not worked with Marvin as manager he can't be allowed to sign a new squad for next season.

On that why must we stay full time why not try a hybrid system.

We have to change something as us bring full time has given us no advantage from any part time team.

It used to be a part time player was not as fit but nowadays they do as much in the gym etc as any full time player .

As I said in another thread, "must win" is overused. I wouldn't say this is a must win game. I'd be happy with a point and would feel we're almost over the line if we manage to take a point. If we lose it's not great but we'll still have time to recover given Stirling and Annan play each other. In all honesty I'm fully expecting all 3 sides to be on 37 points come Saturday night. Anything better than that for us will be a massive bonus.

Every game is a must win at this time of the season .

We get a result at Stirling then we are safe.

If me I would go tor it take the game to Stirling .

It will be a physical game hope none of our players disappear when the going gets tough..

Surely Marv will start Gibson and get Connelly back in the team..

  17. 1 hour ago, Kelheart said:

, The game at Stirling is huge and may swing the momentum for one of them , I genuinely think Annan have enough about them to pull it off and stay safe so one of SA or QoS for me at this stage

That is my worry about the Stirling game they play  a physical game we have players who disappear when the going gets tough .

Stirling will be 100 % up for the game some of our players will not.

I really can see all teams level next Saturday night still think Queens don't have the desire or bottle to keep away from 9th .

I’m absolutely no fan of Bartley but you’re just guessing as to what any issue was.

I am guessing but as I have said if a serious issue then just saying sorry would not be enough to sort it.

Main thing is he is back with the squad .

On the Stirling game it will be a physical game something that some of our players don't like .

They will be 100 % up for the game  can Bartley get us ready for the fight I don't think so.
