  1. Is Joao Victoria out of the picture or injured? Noticed he has not really featured for Raith.
  2. Sorry to interrupt, where did Calvin Kemp go to from Talbot?
  3. Stewart was at a family wedding. Leon Murphy ineligible and grant Gallagher injured.
  4. As mentioned, PJ came off the bench for his debut up at Brechin and really looked the part. Off the top of my head, he set up Luke Donnelly for the equaliser and could have scored the winner but fired at Connor Brennan. Then, in his home debut, he scored the winner against Dumbarton. That's probably about as good as it got though. I'm not sure of the reasoning but he never really lived up to those moments and in the end was a bit 'meh'. That said, I spoke to him at East Fife and he was quite open in knowing he needed to do more and was quite forthright about that. Best of luck to him and if he can perform like he did in his first few games then he will do well for Dumbarton. He also scored a decent strike against Partick in the Scottish Cup.
  5. It's difficult to really provide much knowledge regarding O'Keefe. He played about 360 minutes between January and the end of the season and a quarter of that was his debut away to Forfar. He didn't ever really stand out - one way or another. Injury also restricted his game time but best of luck to him at Elgin. I think Andy McDonald will likely do well there though. I thought he was a decent enough defender and maybe a bit of a surprise that him and David Brownlie were released.
  6. Forgive my ignorance, is David Gray still with you? Always thought he looked decent in his few appearances for Stranraer.
  7. Would be quite pleased to see Joao return to the club. He provides a little bit of creativity which is needed up that end of the park. Fully agree on the fact he can play a couple of positions being handy as well. It seems to be all quiet on the new signing front, which doesn't bother me in the sense the new season is still a wee while away. That said, I'm not sure on the idea of signing Barr or Gallagher. Both have had their issues with injuries and if - as expected - we are going to run a small squad, we cannot afford someone being sidelined for lengthy periods. I think Gal is exactly the type of player we need though. He is probably one of my favourite players from that Stevie Aitken team. He might not have got the goals of a Longworth or Malcolm or the wing play of Gibson or Winter but he put in a great shift in the middle of the park. Squad so far: David Smith.
  8. Seconded. A two-horse race for me between Turner and Currie. I think I would probably go for Max in what has been his first full season in the team. In that respect, I don't think we have really missed Belford. That said, I think it is a big job for someone to fill Turner's boots next season.
  9. To be fair, I think it is just the punctuation that is out in the last bit of Car's post. I think the comment is saying they don't think we will go down but if we do there will be a further budget cut for next season.
  10. I quite liked Hawkshaw. He was one of the four or five loan signings (along with Dylan Dykes, Angus Beith, Cammy MacPherson and Ross Lyon) that came in for the second half of the season. He's good on the ball and creative, although from a physical standpoint he is a bit on the short side. Good, tidy player though and should do well at this level. I think he had a trial at Livi during the close season.
  11. I think the best way to describe him would be the old cliche "good touch for a big man". I think with the ball at his feet Luke is up there with the best in this division. In that respect, you only need to look at his goal up at Gayfield earlier in the season. His technique is second to none and you can tell he has been coached at a higher level (Celtic). However, he perhaps lacks the engine that other players around him possess. Similarly, for a big guy, he's not as dominant in the air as perhaps you would want. A fine player and someone who will carve out chances but he's not an out-and-out striker. More of a number ten, I think.
  12. How is Giuliano Morena getting on? Quite liked him at Stranraer but he never got a look in under Stevie Farrell. Noticed he was back in the Brechin team on Saturday. Will he be sticking around beyond January?
  13. Of course, it depends how far down the pyramid you want to go to say you are the "only" unbeaten side in Scotland. Jeanfield Swifts, Penicuik and Bonnyrigg Rose are all undefeated in the East of Scotland Football League and Stranraer are undefeated in the South of Scotland League.
  14. Like a few of the other posters, a bit surprised to see Brown go. Always came across well to speak to and there was not a lot between the two teams on Saturday. The one thing that has been desperately lacking on the two occasions I've seen Stenny this season is a real goal threat. The thing is, top quality strikers are not freely available and just about every team in this league would bite your hand off for one. I think if you guessed the table at the start of the season most folk would have had Dumbarton, Raith and Arbroath towards the top. Montrose and Stenhousemuir - as the newly-promoted teams - towards the bottom but with not a great deal between them and the middle of the pack. In that respect, I think Brown has done what was expected. As I say, a shame to see him go.
  15. I liked Morgyn at Stranraer last year and would have liked to have seen him stay. When he is switched on and fully focused, I think he could still play full time. When Stranraer beat Raith last year he was superb. He was dominant in the air and read everything. I get that players are playing in League One because they are not consistently reaching that level but if Morgyn would produce close to that he would be playing at a higher level than just now. As I say, I liked him as a defender and he managed to cut out the errors last year. Best of luck to him at Stenny.
  16. It is obviously very early days but he was superb on Saturday. Motherwell were out of sorts but he bullied Kipre and Hartley. Scored a goal and almost set up another. As I say, early days but if he can get close to that form most weeks then it is looking good.
  17. Alternatively, friendlies are used for fitness and not prizes. I'm not going to lose any sleep over losing games that, at the end of the day, mean absolutely zero to whether this season is a success or not.
  18. Would have to echo some of the thoughts above. Tough tackling, gives 100 per cent but not just a ball winner. Can pick a pass, although that's not necessarily to say he is going to set up 10-15 goals a season. Was part of the team under Brian Reid but I don't think he got a minute under Stevie Farrell. Really nice guy and best of luck to him at Brechin.
  19. How did the giants of Kyle Turner, Scott Agnew and Angus Beith cope?
  20. Going to be at Taylor/Davies tomorrow. Should be interesting. Opinion seems fairly evenly split on who comes out on top. Hoping home advantage can see Taylor over the line.
  21. It is exactly that. Certainly, FWIW, there seemed to be a lot of players who joined Stranraer who were good friends with Tiff. Funnily enough, there are more than a couple of Stranraer fans who are unsure about appointing Aitken because of his links to this season as well. Time will tell.
  22. In Chris' defence, the same could be said about Stevie when he took over from Keith Knox at Stranraer. I think Stranraer were bottom when Stevie stepped up from assistant to manager.
  23. I imagine, if you speak very nicely to Brian Reid, you could have Nade back...
