Lafferty was a better player than Billy McKay until recently. I am certainly not saying he’ll do better for us and he’s clearly not a better person, but he was better. Can’t see this happening.

The people who complained we did our business too quick and missed out on Chalmers and McAlear last summer will be the same folk complaining we are too slow this summer.

I think the points been made. We have to spend more than other clubs just to get folk up here, hence the higher costs. Unfortunately young players, good players with a history of injuries and loans are our market and we know why - budget and geographical issues. I rightly or wrongly took from your post your suggestion is start signing proven championship winners? I wonder if the clubs ever considered that? We have on occasion but it seldom happens, highlighting how difficult it is.

We have to pay more for the same players compared to central belt clubs which explains the higher costs and non spectacular results. The losses don’t necessarily mean we went for it. IIRC the losses have been relatively consistent around 800K if you exclude the covid loans / payments. I suspect that’s the figure to achieve our goals of minimum 4th place, if you see a substantial higher loss assume we’ve went for it.

IIRC the P&J said he suffered a couple of long term knee injuries at Dundee United as a youngster. Injury prone has been imo.

I know, my injury comment was based on his injury record the two seasons before last where he missed large spells, not last season.

If he joins Ross County that fully explains his criminal performance against Ayr on the final day. Let’s add corruption to the list of excuses.

I really don’t think it’s that unlikely. He’s 33 this year, scored 6 goals in 3 seasons at Aberdeen and only managed another 3 since 2017 - that’s not great. He’s injury prone and only played 325 minutes last season, 90 on the final day - again not great. I suspect Watkins has made his money and would be looking to play regularly. That said, he’s one bad move away from being a total has been, the boys on the brink now.

I’m annoyed we’ve given Doran a new contract. I appreciate it’s cost effective but from a footballing point of view surely it makes no sense? He’s caused opposition defences almost no threat for years and the stats back that up, he’s so ineffective solely due to his lack of mobility and pace. Sad, but he’s well past it for me.

The club have been terrible at handling things like this for far too long. It’s a terrible look and certainly doesn’t help recruiting new players or keeping those who could leave. I’d reduce McKays deal in the second year due to his age but not the first, he was great last season but he won’t be great forever.

Whichever side of the Dodds debate you were on it’s time to get behind the club, supposedly we all want the same thing. Ultimately, next season presuming there’s not another valid excuse for having a below par season we’ll see what he’s made of - everyone should hope the club is correct in their decision.
