  1. If Loy's playing for Dundee tonight then we've surely no chance of getting him, at least in the short term? Also, nothing wrong with Brian Graham as such however I feel that he's too similar to Miller and that we need a different type to partner Austin. Loy would be ideal! I fear though that we could end up going with what we have which, relative to other teams, would give us a good basis but would ultimately leave us short.
  2. There's some decent wee back street pubs where you can drink quite cheaply in the Buda side too and, if you like lager, you're going to like Budapest!
  3. That's right, Bowman and/or Barclay, much like we have Mitchell now really. We have no other alternative as McMinn has gone ( I'm assuming that you know this?) although, to be fair, I would have kept him on as back-up which would have saved some cash. If Mitchell is crap then that's down to Houston recruiting poorly; if he's got a problem with astroturf then Houston should get his arse kicked for bringing him in in the first place. I stand by what I said though that I don't think that goalkeeper is a position that should not have adequate back up. I believe that St Mirren brought in O'Brien because their first choice goalie either picked up an injury or was deemed not good enough and Langfield was fecked by then? I'm sure one of their fans will be able to clarify. I don't think it was because they had gone in to the season with just one goalie on their books though? Think we'll just need to agree to disagree really.
  4. No we didn't, there was always a back up. As I say, if Houston went into the season with just one 'keeper he would have been heavily criticised for it and I can only imagine the level of seethe if that 'keeper picked up an injury. You say that an emergency loan could be considered. What if the replacement was shite? Houston would get lynched and you would be one of those leading the party!
  5. Yup, Thomson gets injured and a wee laddie comes on and throws a few in. Houston would get a standing ovation at the end!! He would get ripped to bits if he hadn't signed another 'keeper; plus the fact, who's to say that a decent goalie would be available on an emergency? He tried to have two players for every position last season, which I didn't agree with as I don't think it's affordable (or it compromises on that wee bit of extra quality that we could have) however, if there's one position that you need decent cover for it's goalkeeper IMO.
  6. So, you want him to sign a few players when he has a lack of budget? It looks fairly obvious to me that he's got cash available for one (if he can get him) but that any others will need to be funded by others leaving.
  7. I don't think it's in Houstie's nature to take a 'chance' on that type; think he may feel he got his fingers burnt with Taylor Morgan.
  8. Who exactly have St Mirren signed this close season that you think will improve them? Mostly part time players and Dale Hilson, exactly the kind of signings that would have you rubbing your hands with glee at their uninspiring status! Some of them even played for clubs within a 40 mile radius ffs!
  9. Oh aye, I know that. I wasn't trying to look for excuses, just trying to put a more realistic slant on the numbers.
  10. I did smell shite when I read this TBH. Having said that, we will lose around 3600 away fans over two home games when comparing Hibs with Inverness. Ayr and Raith will also have brought more than Livingston or Brechin too.
  11. Were Hibs given 3000 tickets for each game, i.e., part of the main stand? Canny mind!
  12. Houston has signed several players who's previous club was outwith this radius so I think you should increase your criteria to, say, 100 miles and moan about that instead.
  13. <<<<<<<<<<<George Gibson's my favourite ever Falkirk player.
  14. hee haw Adj. Meaning 'Nothing' or very little. Mainly a Central Scottish term. 'He went to get money out of his bank, but he had hee haw in it.' nothing f**k all nante bugger all nowt Don't know if this helps lads?
  15. Don't remember Baillie although I think he played in the first ever game that I attended. John Markie would walk into my favourite players compilation and Johnny Graham was a great player too. Great times, fantastic memories. (Although I struggle to remember a lot of it.)
  16. Christ, you must be even older than me?! I remember Dennis as back-up to Stewart Rennie (started going in 1968) so don't think I really watched him playing all that often. I remember him being wee for a goalkeeper though? Wished I'd started a bit earlier and had seen Willie Wigham as he was, by all accounts, a very good 'keeper, if a bit on the 'clarty' side! The story about him sitting in the pub with the imprint of the ball on his forehead is legendary!
  17. What, one? As Marshmallo says, I think Scobbie is probably better than Watson or Luca however, he's left sided so either he or Grant would have had to play on the right and I don't think either of them would have been able to do that with much success?
  18. He'd have a hard fuckin job although still probably more likely than Nicky.
  19. Well, he'd be 5th or 6th in line for one of two central midfield places so, on that basis, I think that 'nowhere near' is a fair assessment. He'd be exactly the kind of signing that would see Shadwell's cat head for the hills!
  20. That's a very good point. I think he gets away with it 'cause he looks like he couldn't tackle yer granny!
  21. Loy's not going to leave Dundee unless someone can replace the £1700 a week that he's reputedly earning or he gets a long term contract on a wage that he would accept. Most likely that he would go out on loan if McCann would accept that and that would probably be to the team that would contribute the highest % of his wage. McCann may also want to keep him however, if not, a loan may again be Dundee's preferred option as, in the event that he scores loads in this league they would have the option of keeping him on at the end of the season.
