Quick Question Thread

Anyone got any good ways to revise?I'm getting a few tests as school in the coming weeks, and can never just sit there and revise.

I'd recommend if you find it difficult to sit and revise to never spend more than 20 minutes in an hour revising. Listening to music or having just noise (television or something) blaring in the background. Eventually you'll pick things up that way, at least it worked well for me.

I'm talking about the big pointless plastic ones that people insist in putting in sinks for some reason.

Why? What's wrong with your sink? The basin just gets in the way! It serves no purpose in a sink! It's like putting your toaster under the grill, or a crisp packet over your knob then putting a condom over the crisp packet!

Always annoyed me. Basins in sinks that is. I've never used a crisp packet and a condom.

There's a joke involving cheese and onion in there, maybe...

Why is it that some words used to describe speech impediments are unpronounceable (or at least hard to pronounce) by those who suffer from them? The only two examples I can think of offhand are lisp and stutter. Is it that some folks are just p-plain cruel?

That seems a bit small, i.e only about 240 folk online, but 60 on GN alone tonight. Are there no big ones?

Football365 maybe, that's got a decently-sized messageboard.

Surely I can't be the only one that thought the word "dilemma" was spelt "dilemna"? Every single online source is telling me I'm wrong, but I'd have called you stupid if you'd told me that was how you spell it.

My mind is blown.

I cannot understand why you'd think that at all.

Very strange! I assume I was taught to spell it with an "n" at some stage and it stuck.

What are the disadvantages of having electronic communications with staff? I'm having a mind blank! huh.gif

whit?

I'm not sure if I understand completely but like...emails being lost, deleted, sensitive infortmation being sent to wrong addresses? that kind of thing?

edit to add:

or something slightly personal like...email based communications can isolate members of a team rather than verbally communicating in groups where individuals can have input and discussion?

It's an essay question that I have as part of an assessment. It wants a list of advantages and disadvantages of staff using emails and stuff like that. I have a list as long as my arm for advantages, but couldn't think of a single disadvantage. Never thought about sensitive information being lost, that's a great one. Cheers!

Too much personal use, too much time to "catch up" if off on holiday for a few days are another couple of disadvantages too.

The written word can be misinterpreted in terms of appearing cheeky/demanding when it's meant to be to the point.

Emails can bounce back and forward on an issue for discussion when a vergbal exchange could nail it all rather than questions going back and forward for ages.

The email one is interesting. Rugster's comment about the delay inherent in each line of a conversation is relevant but I still use emails rather than phone where I want to keep a paper trail so that the other party can't say "I never said that" later on.

For your assignment, add in the "virus attached" angle.
