It cheers up a suit, instead of being a vision on grey, black or navy it looks different. But if you aren't going to wear a tie at least wear a cut away collar otherwise it looks odd.

I don't work with machinery or use pencils but I'm both those cases you can opt of a bow tie.

Many years ago when I worked in light engineering the sight of the lathe operators turning up to work in a suit and bow tie was a joy.

Well it would have been if any of them were daft enough to do it.

I would only wear a tie with a suit and only in essential situations like court appearances, then only in the hope of a lighter sentence.

I agree tbh but it would be cultural appropriation for a wee Scottish guy to don one and I guess colonies killed off wide spread traditional wear combined with the fact it's a pain. I get why folk wear jeans and a t-shirt because you can fling them in a washing machine but nothing looks better imo than proper fitting suit and shirt but it does carry way to much power behind it, it is just cloth at the end of the day.

Shame the kilt never made it into work wear. Even like the proper get up is really nice, bit much for day to day work but still makes a mockery of folk who pitch up at a wedding in shortbread tartan, timbys and one of those beige string shirts.

Lowland Scots wearing kilts falls squarely into the "cultural appropriation" bracket.

I like a suit as it means when I get home and get changed I'm completely out of work mode.

Kilt is for those occasions surely? Maybe morning coat for a wedding if you're not into kilts.

I like a doc in a bow tie but otherwise agree with your assessment.

I get completely out of work mode through other reminders such as "being home" and "not wanting to kill myself and everybody around me," but if you need to base that on your clothes don't try and drag everyone else down with you.

True but lowland Scots have been wearing them in decent numbers since 1800s and of course most of us with have Highland ancestry, I don't think it compares to a native American headrest

Give the lowlands a break, it's not their fault the lowlands have no culture and they've had to appropriate Highland culture for 200 years.

Where does your attraction to a lowland football club come from? Is it their culture?

It came from Lowland clubs blackballing Highland clubs until the mid 90's (and even then, they forced two rivals to merge into one club).

Lets think about it though, the things most commonly associated with Scottish culture:

Highlands: Kilts/tartan, Whisky, Scots-Gaelic, Scenery, Clans, Highland Games, Ceilidh's

Lowlands: Burns, eh....

Things people think are Scottish but aren't actually: Bagpipies, haggis.

No contest. I think it would be a good thing for the Lowlands to finally discover it's own culture.

That's not a kilt champ, thanks for playing anyway.

For those interested in the litany of falsehoods and reinventions of Highland culture, the bulk of Trever-Roper's takedown in The Invention of Tradition can be read on Google Books to judge for yourselves:

Spoiler

Bonus points if you had 'anti-Irish staunchness' on the Highland bingo card for this one.

Falkirk fans moaning as per about how its an injustice the way they're being treated.   After all they deserve to be in the top league  you know.

They seem to forget they're in tier 3 for reasons all of their own making.

star trek deal with it GIF

The good news is that they're planning on 'chucking the game' when this latest injustice kicks in. Hopefully their equally ridiculous football club joins in and applies for the European Super League instead. I'm sure that Andrea Agnelli and Florentino Perez will welcome this powerhouse of the game with open arms.
