Jambomo
Certainly closer than yesterday but he won with a good bit to spare in the end. Only way he isn't winning green is if he falls off. Yeah, think they said he was 250m from the line. Kittel is in amazing form, as you say, he'll be in green come the end of the tour.

Sore one for Bodnar, to be out in front for so long and get caught must feel like a right kick in the balls. Unfortunately for him the peloton time it perfectly more often than not.
peasy23
Should be a good stage today, if anyone is going to stop Froome then they really have to start clawing back time today. Le Tour put this pic on their Facebook this morning from up near the finish line.
peasy23
Well that all went tits up for Sky. Controlled the race until the final killer 500m climb, but Froome didn't have enough in his legs to hang on. Bardet won the stage and Aru got second with Froome coming in well down, looks like Aru has the yellow jersey.
honestly united
Aru in yellow with 7 sec lead, Bardet in 3rd. Haven't seen the coverage, just online, but looks like Landa has left Froome on the final climb

Thomohawk
I don't remember ever seeing Froome struggle like that on the final section and it wasn't down to him being left by Landa; he simply didn't have the legs to keep with the others. As Peasy says, it seems like quite a sensible move on reflection because it deprived some of the others of taking the bonus seconds on offer. Overall, it's good for the race that things have been blown open, but I can't help but want anyone other than Aru to win. Bardet would be a popular winner, as would Mick Jagger look-a-like Rigo Uran but there's just something generally unlikable about Aru. I still think that Froome will take it overall but it'll certainly be a lot more interesting for the next week and a bit than it was looking before today.
F_T_Y
Froome looked pretty weak after the sky train had all shelled off,he must look prety vulnerable to the other GC men for tomorrows short but difficult stage.

Will be a lot of head scratching going on in the Sky bus tonight I think. They had half the team at the front until the final climb and all it succeeded in doing was setting up a chance for all the other GC riders who had the sum total of zero teammates between them helping out.
Salvo Montalbano
Aru pretty much on his own with a couple of teammates abandoning, while Froome should still gain time in the second time trial you'd think. Bardet is the interesting one. AG2R have fair tries to animate the tour this year and look in good shape. Having said all that, even after losing Thomas, Sky still have two of the top ten. They really have loaded their team with super-domestiques this year. Mikel Landa could well be the man to help Froome over the line.
tommyboy
It seems that the Cannondale guys are less than happy that Uran and some others received a 20 second penalty for taking illegal bottles in the final 10k of the stage while Bardet, seen quite clearly on video doing exactly the same, received no punishment. Also interesting that Landa apparently expressed the opinion that he would have won the stage comfortably if he hadn't been 'reined in'. Shades of Froome/Wiggins?
garybs
Aye interesting that the Frenchie received no penalty for taking a bottle, hopefully they resolve that oversight
F_T_Y
Landa could easily have won the stage, he was motoring at the end looking calm and relaxed as everyone behind was starting to suffer. Froome actually told him to slow down at one point. Regarding bardet, they seem to make up the rules on a whim. Sagan DQ for at best, was an accident but footage emerges of bouhanni hitting out at another rider and he gets a fine.
kiddy
Good for the viewer, that we seem to have a 3 horse race. Froome was well in the red, the last 500m, & managed to limit his losses well. Be interesting to see how they all respond to the after effects today.
honestly united
How steep was that climb at the end?? I think it was one of those if there had been another 5km either downhil, flat or a much smaller incline climb Froome would have caught them i think Unless Aru or Bardet can get a big win today, Froome should make the time back up on the Time Trial Just realised the TT is the last day before the procession to Paris, should keep things interesting till then Edited July 14, 2017 by honestly united
milhouse
10 hours ago, garybs said: Aye interesting that the Frenchie received no penalty for taking a bottle, hopefully they resolve that oversight They've just gone over the details of the rule on the ITV4 coverage. "Feeding is prohibited" on ascents, descents, first 50km, last 20 km. Which suggests no team staff doing handouts at these points. There is no clear ruling on taking bottles from spectators. Therefore there was no direct statement in the rules suggesting that those 3 riders should have been penalised.
tommyboy
Nice body swerve from the organisers as,rather than penalise Bardet, they rescind the punishments imposed on Uran and Bennett. Almost as if they're changing their own rules as they go along.
kiddy
Landa will be furious, what are Sky playing at? Froome just needs to mark the others. Edited July 14, 2017 by kiddy
kiddy
Froome & Sky are a shower of idiots. WHY are they closing down attacks from guys who are of minimal threat? It's maintaining a time gap of 2 mins or less.
