Desert Nomad
after they finish their turn they soft pedal up, what time they come in at has nothing do with it. the fact that they are even amongst the favourites on big climbs is odd and when they are setting a pace that is shedding team leaders it is unbelievable. even the eurosport commentators were expressing some 'suprise' about rogers today. give me an example of either of the two of them showing similar form before this season? this is the equivalent of hincapie suddenly flying up mountains in 05. To be fair Rogers has finished top 10 in the Tour, er 6 years ago. And Porte finished top 10 in the Giro due in no small part to a huge break they let slip, he subsequently lost big time in the mountains... Their results this season however have been a little above average compared to previous years. Someone mentioned on Twitter earlier that they thought Sky may have tried to do the Tour clean in 2010, just look at their results... Last year, well Wiggins crash put paid to finding out just how they'd have fared. Edit: it appears Froome & Wiggins better halfs are having a bit of a spat on Twitter https://twitter.com/intent/user?screen_name=michellecound&tw_i=223460468168212480&tw_e=screenname&tw_p=twt&source=twt Edited July 12, 2012 by Desert Nomad

Mr. Brightside
That was just ridiculous today.
Desert Nomad
Anyhow back to the race for a second. The only possibility of any excitement is if Froome actually attacks Wiggins in the Pyrenees. Is it possible? Froome lost his chance of Vuelta victory last year, after working for Wiggins, what better payback? Na I`m just dreaming eh?
Musketeer Gripweed
Great ride from Roland. Exclusive reaction from his coach.
Compliment Sandwich
People on here need to remember Froome signed up for this tour to support Wiggins, so why would we expect anymore? The plan was always going to be for Wiggins to make time over the time trials and for the excellently chosen and well paid (by comparison to other riders) team to support him on the mountains. Wiggins has managed to follow their wheel, unlike Evans who sadly struggled to keep up with Teejay today. I'm sure Froome will be a team leader and GC contender next year, whether at Team Sky or elsewhere. By the way, what a race in the mountains 2013 could be with the Schleck's, Contador (if clean), Froome, Evans, Nibali and Wiggins!
Desert Nomad
Contador if clean? Surely the rest would have to be clean as well? Or are you saying he's that good that the rest can dope while he has to keep to just pasta & fruit? Just to make a race of it, obviously.
TheGreenMonster
Another British victory as David Millar wins the stage today

It was a tongue in cheek comment given he's the only one of these riders to have tested positive for performance enhancing drugs.
Desert Nomad
Just caught the highlights there. Millar finished the stage off well, fine win. Sticking up for Sky a bit when interviewed afterwards.
Mr. Brightside
I was pleased for Millar, but then once he stuck up for UK Postal I'm not quite as pleased...
SJ1210
I was pleased for Millar, but then once he stuck up for UK Postal I'm not quite as pleased... Millar has strong ties to Team Sky, very close to Brailsford and his sister is in charge of their PR.

I`d forgotten that about his sister. And of course Millar will be teaming up with Wiggins, Froome, Cav & Stannard(I think) for the Olympics. Senator John McCain backs the USADA investigation into Armstrong. Getting more serious by the day. Gnash
The last 2 or 3 pages on this thread show why no performance enhancing substances should be banned. It's got to the stage where the main story is the suspicion of doping, and people are joking about the actual race. It's impossible to enjoy what should be a cracking sporting event against that. Let everyone take whatever they want - there is a level playing field, nobody needs to be suspicious about who's taking what, no doping controls, no investigations years after the event, no title stripping, nobody guessing what the top 3 would be only counting the clean riders. -

Right I'm assuming you are at the wind-up? Let riders take what they want? Ricardo Ricco would almost certainly have killed himself by this point. The only level playing field is a clean one. Teams with bigger budgets would win everything as they'd be able to afford better gear. A ludicrous statement, if you were actually being serious.
Desert Nomad
Wiggins chasing down the men out front & leading out the sprint, is there any limit to this man capabilities?
Shuggie_Murray7
Greipel takes it again, what a fantastic tour he is having. Wiggins lead out Boasson Hagen after Cavendish got dropped earlier one. Wiggins set it up for Boasson Hagen but he just doesn't have the straight line speed of a Greipel.
Jim Leighton
I touted Greipel for the Green Jersey a few weeks back and while that's unlikely with the Tourminator in such form, he's brought his early season sprint prowess into the TdF. The sprinters seem to follow each other around so he has been winning against decent guys. Go gorilla!

What's ludicrous is to suggest that even if no one was taking banned substances that the richest teams wouldn't be able to buy the best legal substances, and indeed training methods etc. You're kidding yourself if you think 'clean' elite athletes don't take a miriad of drug, protein and dietry supplements. It just happens they are not on the banned list. The only vaguely sensible argument against legalising everything is the Ricardo Ricco argument you made - it might endanger the health of more riders as even the ones that are 'clean' now would have to start taking them to keep up. Even then, by bringing it out into the open, there can be a much better focus on developing safer substances and taking substances more safely. Then the fans can get back to concentrating on the race, rather than always wondering if the winner has been cheating.
