Savage Henry
How was Mike Krol? Know nothing about him but his new album is okay and I see he's playing Glasgow in a bit. Black Midi I've already seen but interested to know how they went down over there.Mike Krol was great. He plays with Allison Krutchfield on bass. Black Midi were one of the buzz bands of the week. Everyone I know was left... none the wiser. Some skeletons of songs, but not much depth.
Yoss
Not sure if it helps to think of them as songs.

Savage Henry
William Tyler - an incredible guitarist, how was his set? Until he picked up his electric guitar, pretty dull. Not really a festival kind of a show.
well fan for life
Ended up picking up a couple of last minute tickets for Anderson .Paak last night so headed along. God damn that man is talented. And so versatile. The crowd was absolutely wall to wall hipster c***s, though.

Proper show, proper good times

The_Judge
Would be interested on your views on both The Dunts and Rascalton (having seen them both over the last year or two). Also how were Fontaines DC as there seems to be a LOT of hype. Cheers.

Was actually on two minds over whether to go as I had tickets for this and James at the Usher Hall booked before I realised they clashed. James announcing the Princes’ Street gardens gig later in the year made the decision for me. Superb night! Sleeper tomorrow for me next, shame the new record isn’t out til Friday but I’m sure it’ll be classics heavy anyway.
Ira Gaines
My mate introduced me to Sons of an Illustrious Father today and after listening to both of their albums, instantly got a ticket for their King Tuts show, and absolutely cannot wait.

Also how were Fontaines DC as there seems to be a LOT of hype. Cheers.First two were both awful. Rascalton have a very laddish following and played up to them. A bunch of idiots making Jesus poses to three blokes in Fred Perry. It was a generally unpleasant atmosphere. The Dunts were largely incompetent but actually played a gig rather than just impressing their mates. Fontaines DC blew the other two out the water. Four clunkers to start their set and then they kicked on a gear. Pretty impressive. The people who I was with liked ‘em way more than I did, but compared with those other two bands they were great. Fontaines DC played undercard to Black Midi, but by the end of the week only one of those bands was being widely discussed. Fontaines DC are, it has to be said, one part Oasis to two parts Joy Division with a healthy touch of the Fall. They’ll get a lot of coverage, I’d imagine. Jools Holland surely awaits.

BallochSonsFan
Should add that tonight's support - Catholic Action - are pish. Pretentious wankers lead by a floppy haired p***k in a beige flasher raincoat. If you want to be a dull and predictable rip off of a Scottish band then you should at least aim a little bit higher than Franz fucking Ferdinand.

BallochSonsFan
Sleeper gig: Louise Wener is still wid material but at times she looks more like the office woman getting drunk and making a play for the young mailroom guy at the Christmas party. On occasion it slips over from a great stage presence to a cringey one. Old songs still sound brilliant. They always were perfect pop songs with great tunes and plenty of hooks. I don't think that Wener or Sleeper got the credit they deserved at their 90s peak, primarily because Wener was too busy trying to promote the band by going on TFI or posing for Loaded wearing leather/rubber. The classics - Inbetweener, Nice Guy Eddie, Sale of the Century, Statuesque etc - were brilliant and Wener's energy and stage presence work well. The new material isn't anywhere near as strong. It's not terrible but it lacks what made the music on the first 3 albums so enjoyable. New stuff felt like it would be at home on a Radio 2 playlist and being played by Jo Whiley. That's not really a ringing endorsement. Worth seeing live but I won't be bothering with the new album.
