Isn't it quite the opposite in the case of Jamaica though? There's a large Scottish influx of names as Scottish prisoners were sent there in the 15th and 16th centuries to serve their sentences.

We can claim a lot of their medals the same way we do with Australia.

Seems to be a bit of both.

Apparently 60% of surnames in Jamaica are of Scottish origin. I did not know that.
