It doesn't necessitate the same actions as "now" at all.  As per the previous poster's valid point, soon is used as a polite clue to start winding things down, not to put an immediate stop to them.

That's why I said the poster's GF was right to be miffed at the guy ending the chat when he did.

Wer all different I suppose. In that scenario I expect the Mrs to just say what she means.

Possibly, but not surely. It's like somebody saying I need to be going soon and then you immediately bring their coats.

That would very much depend on how much you like them...

Well because if "soon" doesnr neccesitate the same actions as "now" then there is literally no point in saying it

Exactly this.

I basically said to her, ok, from now on, give me a hour's warning when you are planning on actually going to bed, so I can message you "good night in an hour then" so you  don't hit the roof about it being premature.

I mean, why the f**k even inform me that she's merely thinking about going to bed? What is she wanting? Why not tell me at lunchtime that she's thinking about going to bed much, much later?

It's totally pointless beyond inane chit-chat for the sake of it.

Aye. Bet when she woke up she immediately told you she's still in a huff with you as well 🤣

Younger female work colleague on Teams meeting this week.

General chat before meeting she said she wanted to ask a question.

'Do you have to put a stamp on letters before you put them in a post box?'

Having been advised yes, her response,

'I didn't realise, I thought you just put the letter in the box and it was the posties job to deliver it,

but it OK I've only ever sent a few letters'.

She is 24.

I'm curious what she thought stamps (given she clearly knows what they are) were for.

am sure this has been discussed before but why is this thread titled "...babes"? I can see that it has been running for 12 years, so am assuming "babe" was a commonly used term at the time or was it based on a saying?

I thought "babe" when referring to women was a Wayne's World briefly lived term from about 20 odd years ago....
