Walking Down The Halbeath Road

Line in the Press this week saying McPake "is about to welcome a new assistant".

Also says he "wants Academy players out on that pitch", although what manager doesn't say that?

No further news on Dorrans future or signings.

Courier have just reported that McPake has been impressed with him in training but they've not talked about the future yet. Sounds to me as if he could be staying and not a case of wanting a big earner off the payroll. Mentions how important Dorrans values his pre-season, something he didn't do last year after coming right off the Australian season.

Who do we think his assistant will be? Dave McKay seems the most likely but not sure what his role is at Dundee now if any?

Mackay's currently the *other* assistant manager, but I imagine he's been more of a first team coach (which was his original role with us) since the departure of McPake. He basically played the role of 'coach that all the players know and like' while McGhee and Rusk paraded around not knowing a thing about them. He could well still perform that duty with Bowyer and Barr, but it seems we might be prepping Scott Robertson for that kind of role. Mackay ending up alongside McPake again is the most likely situation.

Regarding the sub-quote, I'd be very surprised if McPake didn't want to keep his mate Dorrans in the fold, potentially even in a coaching role (idk what the coaching setup is like for you guys so not aware how viable that is). As for the Academy quote, one of McPake's best managerial qualities is seeing the potential in youth players and giving them a chance, and he did very well in introducing several of our academy players to the squad with success and whom are now regulars in our team.

As long as McPake gets his own man/men in I don't mind who. Was something really wrong about our three coaches with no real connection sitting on their backsides in the PG and Yogi spells.

How much or how little a coach sits is not an indication of ability.

It's a bit of an awkward one for McPake. Wants his own man in, but can't bin the current guys yet now that training has started since he can't get involved in training himself just now due to his leg.

Alan Main is an absolute horrid individual, cracking keeper, but welt of a guy. McPake seems to love a DAB for being a Dee and his signings and backroom staff often have a slight connection.

Last year our assistant coaches were Whittaker and Shields. Whittaker has joined Brown down at Fleetwood while Shields is apparently going to the academy, so he has some free reign, just has to get bods in.

Not sure how involved he is in with training but he's on video cutting about the pitch with a support on his knee, think it's still him that's running the show.

Can't say I know anything about Alan Main personally, always came across as a character that would win up the opposition but you'd love him as your keeper, cannae be a surprise that a bloke you refer to as a DAB you also find a welt? Hopefully he's a decent coach because Mehmet could do with some refining.

Fair enough about McPake. I know we've offered Mackay a chance to stay on so don't know what's happening with that. Personally would prefer if he joined you guys.

Nah, nothing to do with DAB tendencies when it comes to Main. It's quite well known what he's like. As you say though, his personality has nothing to do with anything if he helps improve your goalkeepers!

Alloa at home first up. Not bad.

Although it does mean consecutive home games to them as the week before we play them in the cup.

FC Edinburgh is the first away game, one week later.

First game vs Kelty is 20th August at East End.

First game vs Falkirk is 17th September, also at East End

Not sure if the club have made a mistake, but currently they've noted 4 consecutive away games.

Airdrie game’s at home. You don’t expect the club to actually check things on their website, do you?

Hadn’t noticed we play Alloa at East End 2 Saturdays in a row until you posted this.

Did I read things correct? Are FC Edinburgh playing at Meadowbank, with a capacity of 500?

Also, are we actually playing FC Edinburgh at Meadowbank on the same day as Hibs v Hearts at Easter Road?

Who builds a new stadium with a capacity of 500
