Walking Down The Halbeath Road

Airdrie have adapted tactically, to be competitive at this level. They played free-flowing attacking football last year and conceded a lot of goals along the way. Their management team and players have adapted to the championship. Our management team and players have been found out though.

We did OK for the first bit of this season. Had me thinking we'd be fairly comfortable in mid table.

Have went massively off the rails since.

Nope.

League 1 is rancid. Falkirk have finally got their act together, signed Championship level players (Spencer, Lang, Ross etc) and are showing how much of a cakewalk it can be.

You guys are in real trouble. O’Hara winner in the playoff - imagine that.

Playoffs? You're more optimistic than most Pars fans!

DEFCON 1.

Brutal. Have been happy to give McPake til after Arbroath but genuinely think there should be discussions about changes this week. Half that first team should be moved on as soon as possible.

Not sure how a management team recovers from here.

But, like us last year, you’ve not exactly been up against much. Genuinely think you guys need to look at what’s happening to us, to appreciate the gap between league 1 and championship. Our team and manager would still be winning almost every week in league 1 - as they did last season.

Irrelevant, it’s all about getting out of this pit of misery.

We can strengthen the squad for the Championship once the league flag is flying over the Bairnabeu.

Can't judge last season's performances for Airdrie, but a look at the straightforward statistics suggests that McCabe and his management team have been adaptive - they've tightened up massively at the back which has been the foundation for their success.

McPake's team on the hand is shipping comedy goals due to a shan philosophy meeting the brutal reality of a long Championship season. A role reversal from pre-season expectations for both clubs.

Simply put Airdrie are impressive.
We can’t lay a glove on them and McCabe definitely has our number.
Solid at the back and play some real tidy stuff. Could easily be a 4 way battle for 3 spots - Raith, PT, GM and Airdrie.

Weirdly we've beaten Airdrie twice this season! The game through there they were rank and we should have won 0-3 at least.

However, we still have to play them twice (including a rearranged game).

Airdrie also have a striker that is scoring goals. What the Pars would do for someone like that just now! 🤦🏻‍♂️

looking forward to the derby match against Stenny next season.

Although the noise is quite considerable now amongst Pars fans, he won't be sacked after that. He'll be given the Arbroath game. Should we fail to get 3 points from that, the Board will not be able to ignore the noise and the reality of the situation we are in

I'm not buying the injury crisis is causing the past few results. There is enough quality in the squad there to at least be competitive and get results. The away game earlier in the year against Queens Park is the only game I've felt like we have had nothing about us to get a result due to the injuries, but that's it.

Everything is wrong with the club. The way that the Board is set up seems suspicious. All this talk of Meggle's conversations with managers since he has been here gives off puppet master vibes.

Is there though?

Mehmet and Little - not sure they are Championship quality.

Breen, Fagan-Walcott, Benjamin - not sure they are Championship quality.

Allan, Chalmers - not sure they are Championship quality.

McCann, Wighton - jury out but the foreman is about to knock on the judge's door with a verdict.

That really only leaves Benedictus, Otoo, Hamilton, Comrie, Edwards, Todd, Moffat, Summers, O'Halloran and Jakubiak who look like they might have the required quality, and of those Benedictus and Todd could be out til God knows when, Moffat and Summers have talent but have zero physicality and O'Halloran and Jakubiak can offer something going forward but aren't going to score many goals.

We can't keep clean sheets and we don't score enough goals. Not a good recipe.

The recruitment is a major issue. We've brought in some decent players but also some shite and extended contracts on more shite. Yes injuries are preventing him play the way he wanted but to stick with the same formation and the only change in tactic being to go long, I'm starting to doubt him.
