the snudge
Down @ The Rock's never been that atmospheric but even against Rangers the Home End was quiet. What happened to all the flags we used to see at home & away matches? Even Willie Gibson gave us the "make some noise" gesture after we went 1 up v Livi on Sat.I used to take them but fatherhood has taken over and I can't really justify thw cost of going to many games anymore. The ither lad, sneak, has been playing for St Pats so I don't think he can make it as much.

Too much on and I believe he didn't renew his season ticket for this year.
Bring Back Paddy Flannery
Guys, just a reminder of the Annual Sonstrust Quiz which is taking place after the upcoming home game with Falkirk, with details as per the attached flyer. It would be really good to see a lot of P & B posters there on the night.... Do you happen to know if the players will be entering a team this year?
O'Kelly Isley III
Do you happen to know if the players will be entering a team this year? I believe Stevie Aitken has committed to providing a team, but who will be in it I don't know.
The Moonster
I suppose we should review our team name of Stevie Aitkens Ginger Pubes then.
Nowhereman
I suppose we should review our team name of Stevie Aitkens Ginger Pubes then. You definitely should. There should be an apostrophe in Aitken's.

George Parr
have i mentioned how much i hate the international breaks? It is a bit odd that we played on the last international weekend but not this one. A sensational win through at Easter Road would have been just the tonic after that shambles last night.
Bring Back Paddy Flannery
I've attended both of Scotland's recent qualifiers with Germany and Poland and I must admit it kinda reminded me why I don't go to Scotland games. A decent enough night out but getting to and from Hampden is an absolute pain in the tits, the 'Tartan Army' are seriously cringeworthy and obviously the lack of qualification somewhat sucked some of the enjoyment out of the experience. £45 to sit the north stand is also pretty shite tbh. I'd pick going to watch the Sons every day of week over Scotland. Any Sons fans think differently and would choose their country over their club?
Jan Vojáček
I've been to one Scotland game in my life - a 1-0 win over Lithuania in 2011. I was sat about two and half miles away from the action, everything was very expensive, the atmosphere was non existent, it was a torrid game, it took forever to get home and to top it all off I had to watch Gary Caldwell boot a ball straight to Marius Zaliukas for 90 minutes. I barely even celebrated when the goal went in. If Scotland win I'll be happy, if they lose I won't be too bothered. If Sons' win I'll be delighted the whole week, and if we lose it ruins my weekend. I just can't be bothered caring that much.
Scottylintonstowel
Feel sorry for today's Scotland fans. Not only are the team crap but Hampden has totally lost its atmosphere. Was at Scotland v England in the seventies when dalgleish put the ball through Clemence's legs for the winner. Crowd was well over100000 and the excitement was almost visible. Dalgleish bremner law Jordan etc. We have no one anywhere near that class sadly anymore.
Sweet Pete
Never been much of a one for international fitba, mainly for the reasons BBPF and SSO08 mention.Never really feel connected to the players either, mainly because it's most often players from teams I don't support (the down south teams who have Scotland players) or actively dislike (Celtic and Rangers).
Thommo90
100% club over country. Hate international football all together unless it's the World Cup/euros and it's 3 games on the telly a day.
pleslie99
I used to go to Scotland games, was in France when McFadden scored 'that' goal. Nowadays money rules and I can't justify £45 a ticket plus travel, drink etc. Couple that with the lack of atmosphere these days and the dross entertainment on the park then I don't really see it as value for money. Still obviously enjoy it when Scotland win. Id much rather give any spare money I have for football to the sons, although even that I feel is overpriced but that's an argument for another day!
O'Kelly Isley III
The rampant commercialism in modern football was always going to pole-axe countries like Scotland in terms of both the club and international teams. Add to that the gradual emergence of many other countries which were previously utter also-rans. For example, the participation in the 1974 World Cup of Haiti, Zaire and Australia was regarded back then as a huge novelty - not so nowadays. But there's another side to all of this; when I were a lad the Scottish football team was the distillation of the nation's collective aspiration, confidence and self-belief - for better but usually worse. Again, not so nowadays, as Scots have finally wakened up to the reality of things and are increasingly choosing to shape their destiny where it counts, away from sport. Paradoxically, the only p***ks who still hide behind this shite are the Union Boers, as witnessed in George Square on September 19th last year.
microdave
I was at last night's game and I feel absolutely gutted by what happened in the final ten minutes both at Hampden and in Dublin. I do agree with the travel to and from Hampden being a nightmare and I probably put up with it since it's only about four times a year. If that was every second week, I'd have chucked a few years ago. Getting to and from the rock is an absolute breeze in comparison. As for the club v country argument, it's only ever happened once that I remember that the two were playing on the same day ( Hibs/Georgia last year) and due to family stuff the decision was out of my hands. I think I would favour club over country but only by a small margin due to the fact that the Sons play more often. And my appetite for international fitba may be waning due to this week of football pish. I used to be a fan of all club football stopping for the internationals but now I get pissed off having a game on Thursday/Sunday and no Dumbarton game on Saturday like this weekend. If Scotland play on a Saturday, I have no objection to no Dumbarton game scheduled that day!

The excitement was a notch or two higher as well.

I think I went about 12 years without missing a home game and regularly went to Wales and Wembley for the Home Internationals. I was at that game as well Scotty, what an atmosphere, what a game. I also went to the 1982 World Cup in Spain. I don't think it is possible to explain to anyone what that is like - there is nothing like being at a World Cup.

Jan Vojáček
but how was the legroom? You're over six feet, are you not? ;-) I am indeed, can't remember if I've mentioned it before. Legroom was adequate at the time, although it when I was in third year and comfortably under the 6ft barrier. I've no idea what it would be like now.
