Sons' sorrow

Recommended Posts

True, Dobbie seemed like quite a sensible guy though, I think it's safe to say Riordan isn't. If he was on a low wage until January I'd be okay with us signing him.

I don't think we need worry ourselves too much nowadays about people being overpaid by us, I suspect we have a fairly standardised wage structure in place.

Yeah, I was more thinking along the lines of his wage maybe doing us out of adding Phinn/Kirkpatrick/R. Smith to the team which are more important. I don't imagine there's too much room left in the budget, I certainly don't see us signing all 4 of them.

My thinking is that some of last nights trialists will be signed up by Thursday.

ETA: Actually I reckon it will be mainly youths, plus S. Smith, Aggy, McDougall, K. Smith

If the past couple of seasons are anything to go by, the squad for the Bankies game will be a mish mash of fringe and youth players, with a couple of "proper" first teamers involved at some stage. We will then lose 2-1 (it's always 2-1) and the Clydebank fans will flock to Pie and Bovril and declare themselves the kings of West Dunbartonshire.

Forgot about the Bankies game, I look forward to that. I can't wait for them to come and tell us how they'd compete in the First Division because we couldn't beat them in a friendly despite us playing our Under 13s. It's nice that we do our bit for the West Dunbartonshire community, raising the spirits of the less fortunate.

Haven't seen enough of Smith or Kirkpatrick to really make any proper comment but Peterhead fans have said Smith was solid for them (I know it's a massive step up from 3rd to 1st but it's all we have to go on). Kirkpatrick seems to be quite good technically but it remains to be seen if he can have the impact of Gilhaney/MacDougall.

Last season was the first time we've played anything near our preferred starting 11 against the Bankies and they were swatted aside without any difficulty.

Looking forward to visiting Holm Park again though, it's shite but quaint - much like the clubs that make home there.

To be honest I'd rather the wage was used to pay someone we actually need. I'm not confident in Owen Ronald being the only backup we have for out wide and we need a CB as it looks like Murray has no plans to play himself.

Also feel if Turner was to get injured we'd be ridiculously light weight in the middle, especially with Phinn as backup. Suppose Fleming could slot in but would much prefer we kept him in his proper position.

So basically Riordan would be a luxury we simply don't need. With the wage he'd be looking for we could probably pay 2 players. We're not really in a position to be paying for players we dont need just because they used to be good.
