Cant say I do, I don't dislike Welsh, Irish and English people, far from it. I have many friends and family that fall under those categories.

But were Scottish, Its what makes us, well us. Its what makes us individual from the rest of Britian, that's a good thing, not a bad thing.

I agree,it is a good thing indeed.

Same goes for the other peoples, except many feel their individual Scottishness,Welshness,Englishness and N Irishness as well as the collective Britishness.

It goes back 300 years,a few generations of intergrated island peoples.

"Other figures have shown that one in six UK children live in poverty."

Poverty figures

The IFS report, which was funded by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation, goes on to say that working-age adults without children are now as likely to be poor as the rest of the population.

This was the result of an increase in households where no adult is in work, as well as a fall in the relative value of out-of-work benefits.

The figures come a day after figures from the DWP showed that at least one out of every six children in the UK live in relative poverty.

In 2011/12, 2.3 million UK children (17%) lived in homes with substantially lower than average incomes.

Better Together.

I see the Western Isles are now looking for some form of devolution from Holyrood. I wonder if Orkney and Shetland will be looking to do the same and make sure that more of the wedge raised on their patch is left there? Edinburgh is "far away" for these folks.

London is further

I thought it was dooooomed due to uncertainty because of the referendum.

I suspect that the fact the result is already known helps a lot.

For the Island communities.

I don't know. All I heard was that the western isles chaps are calling for some sort of form of devolution for themselves. This will be regardless of the referendum result (which is going to be a resounding NO anyway) so clearly things may not be moving in a direction that the centralising SNP might enjoy.

My understanding is that in the case of the Western Isles they want an increase in funding. After listening to the Council Leader on Radio Scotland. How is that devolution?

Just let the unionist puppets slaver away, chief.

"Other figures have shown that one in six UK children live in poverty."

Cool story bro.

I trust you read this research briefing [albeit poorly reported in the Hootsmon] commissioned by your own Scottish Government:

http://www.scotsman.com/the-scotsman/politics/one-in-seven-people-in-scotland-lives-in-poverty-1-2965103

The Scottish Government backed report notes that:

"There has been no significant change in the number of people in relative poverty since 2006-07.”

So then, the Scottish Government is admitting that absolutely no progress has been made in reducing child poverty [relative or otherwise] since the first SNP administration.

And John Dickie [director of the non-partisan Child Poverty Action Group] notes:

“We need [the Scottish] government to ratchet up its use of devolved powers to not just mitigate damaging UK policies but build on promises to, for example, widen free school meal entitlement, ensure working parents receive a Living Wage and improve access to childcare.”

Whatever happened to that Living Wage or the Local Income Tax we were promised during the last two elections? Or do we have to wait until 2014?

What precisely are the SNP doing to solve these problems other than promising jam tomorrow [sic] in 2014 or by bleating on the about the free tuition introduced by the Scottish Labour/Lib Dem Cubie Report.

Although credit where it is due; the SNP did scrap the Endowment and this did make a huge difference to a lot of working class students.

It seems a lot of SNP activists are focusing on the negative:

"What we cannot do without Independence"

I want to hear their positive argument:

"What we can do now to solve the existing problems within Scottish society whilst also fighting a referendum"

If Yes Scotland is truly independent of the SNP then this should be no problem at all since the governing party can get on unperturbed with the daily business of government whilst the independent pressure group can lobby on their behalf but without being fully integrated into its constitution.
