As the article says, Red Bull are looking to buy an English club with the aim of taking them into the Champions League. In Europe they already own Red Bull Leipzig (currently 3rd in the German 3rd tier) and Red Bull Salzburg (top of the Austrian Bundesliga).

I can definitely see the appeal here; England have 4 Champions League places and the PL is one of (the most?) watched league in the world. Salzburg have failed to make the group stage since Red Bull took them over, despite Austria having 2 slots. And Leipzig were in the 5th tier when they were bought over so it's clearly a more long-term project with them.

Who would you say are the most likely candidates to be bought over? The London-based clubs and Leeds already have the infrastructure and the potential to grow their fan base. I would rule out Liverpool as they are already a big enough brand in their own right.

Just imagine a pimped up Red Bull stadium - could there be anything cooler than that??? Have 2 massive red bull can pillars at an angle meeting in the middle point of the main stand - i am getting excited at the mere thought of it

Yeah, the AMF Brigade will be going off their collective nut. Which is a good thing.

It's okay for your team to be owned by a billionaire with no connection to the club, who in turn purchases players who have no connection to the club and play solely for money, but try and change the colours/badge/name of said club and there will be hell to play from the AMF Brigade (most of who make use of modern football's widespread TV coverage by sitting in pubs and watching games).

I hope they get involved in Leeds United. They strike me as a club where the fans are desperate for success but are also dyed in the wool AMFers.

Beeston Dave seems to be a big fan, I have to say the fans I've spoken to aren't.

Pleasing. My Leeds daft mate was saying that he didn't understand how I'd still be able to support Clyde if 'EK' was prefixed to the name and we moved to East Kilbride.

Quite a few with plenty of games under their belt saying they're finished with the club if it becomes a red bull franchise, hard to tell how serious they'd be if push comes to shove.

Personally I don't think Red Bull will invest in Leeds, I wish David Haigh would give it a rest with all the Red Bull twitter bollox though.
