Guest The Phoenix
A mate of my dad's was a psychiatric nurse for a number of years, and he was mainly employed at the secure units at the old Crichton hospital. He maintains that many of the patients originated from the west of the region, and that most of their symptoms could be traced back to the somewhat shallow gene pool in that part of the world. I'd imagine a few of the Queen's fans on here know him professionally.

Zen Archer (Raconteur)
Can i throw in a nomination for Thornton? An utter shitehole with a couple of highly shady car dealers, a couple of absolutely awful looking pubs and a few neds walking about with greasy-looking staffies. It needs to be fucking carpet-bombed. Why do you think it has a by pass?
Kris.
I made a conscious decision to move to Methil back in May. I'm certain the number of junkies living in our street is in the double figures, but they seem pretty harmless. A thoroughly depressing place anyway. We're looking to move in the new year, unsurprisingly. The only good thing about the location right now is we don't live right in Methil, just on the outskirts towards Leven. A small positive.

NotThePars
The thing about schemes in inner cities like Glasgow is one short bus journey or taxi and you're right in the centre where there's lots to do and see. I'd far prefer that over living in somewhere like Leven which is just dead all the time. Edited November 5, 2013 by NotThePars
LongTimeLurker
Sauchie! Absolute shitehole. Think there's quite a bit of gentrification going on there now out towards Fishcross, but would agree that it used to fit in terms of an entire town being much of a muchness in a way that Bo'ness clearly doesn't. When the entire main street was basically filled by the Coop, Sauchie had a failed attempt at creating a socialist utopia kind of feel to it than was a wee bit unique. Think people need to look to the west more for entire towns (i.e. with no posh leafy suburb type areas and relatively few amenities) that are less than stellar places to live. Have been surprised that Viewpark has yet to rate a mention, probably because Thorniewood United are not a club people are likely to visit as away supporters very often.
banana
Ecclefechen. Fucking shit-tip. Is that an actual place? I thought it was just some imaginary place that drunk family elders would refer to in jest like Timbuktu.Timbuktu actually existing probably fcuks up my theory, mind.

Dubskelper
Jesus, there are some dreadful places up that way - Wick, Alness, Thurso and so on. Bonny countryside but the towns are grim. I got stuck in Wick for a couple of hours once. Had to get treatment for PTSD for a few months afterwards.

scottsdad
How can someone say Sauchie when Tullibody is so close by? Proper dump. Try walking down Redlands Road wearing anything green.
MONKMAN
As much as it is a shithole, Ecclefechan can hardly be described as a town. It's a couple of streets with a hotel, post office and a church.
