Are! My! Stav-rum! My Arild Stavrum! You make me happy! When skies are grey! You're big and hairy! And come from Norway! Oh please don't take, my Stav-rum away! I had a proper bro-mance for Stavrum (aye and I was about 30 at the time)! I'd love to get a copy of his drawing of the wind at Aberdeen! GTG_03
Delighted Cerny has signed for another year, as back up keepers go you don't get much better.

ETA on a similar note, I often wonder how the 15/16 season might have turned out had we signed Lewis a year earlier and didn't have the Danny Ward fiasco. Such a 'what if' season. Definitely not for me. I'm not one of those that ignore his ability because he's a vile, rat, ***, scumbag. But Severin was significantly better imo. 9 hours ago, ScoRoss said: I'd have him instead of Shinnie in midfield but not Severin. Taking out loan players, since 2000 Lewis Hart - Anderson - Heikkinen - McNaughton Severin - Bisconti McGinn - McLean - Hayes Stavrum (Just looking back at Stavrum, it's amazing to look back now and see how Aberdeen, struggling at the time, just managed to sign the top scorer in Sweden's top division) Bobby Biscuit, he was a cracking player. Stavrum, he was even better. 27 minutes ago, GTG_03 said: Delighted Cerny has signed for another year, as back up keepers go you don't get much better. Don't forget, for the longest time he held the record for clean sheets. One thing he did use to do that I've seen people moan about, if he reckoned he wasn't going to reach a shot, he just didn't bother with the pretend dive.
Ludo*1
Peter Kjaer was a top quality keeper that you b*****ds seem to be forgetting.

Kjaer was quality but his backups were Preece and Esson. Talking of Esson, was he the last homegrown keeper we've brought through that's played more than a handful of first team games? If so, that's very poor.

I didn't mind Preece - Never paid much attention mind you. Was he brutal? You did have Langfield in goal for nigh on a decade - The fact you couldn't replace him (And by god did you try at times) in that time has to go down as the worst piece of Aberdeen decision making since you had Kjaer!

He wasn't dreadful, but nor was he particularly good from memory. Just pretty anonymous really. I've not long managed to suppress all memory of Langfield, and you've gone and brought it all back to the surface. Cheers min! Nae sleep for me tonight.
Rodhull
Visited Copenhagen in December and when checking in at the hotel the young-ish desk clerk after finding out we were Scottish first thing he asked was if I’d heard of Peter Kjaer and that convinced me it was going to be a good holiday. Mind you when I said we’d flown from Edinburgh he thought that’s where Aberdeen were from so he’s not perfect. We have brought through a couple of keepers of similar standard (roughly) We have higher standards now. That's a good thing

First one I can mind a bit about is Andy Geoghan. Saw him play for the first team in a 3-1 defeat against Dundee United in 1975. Can’t really remember anything about his performance that day , although a few other things stick out. The Dons were in their change strip of all blue tops and shorts with white socks, same as Chelsea at that time. Don’t think I saw us in that strip again. Secondly , Willie Young having a massive strop when he got subbed...... took his top off , flung it into the dugout and stormed off straight down the tunnel. Never played for us again. Thirdly , two United players playing with their socks rolled down. In later years I came to know them.......Paul Sturrock and Graeme Payne. And my dad telling me after the game that their centre forward was “some player”.....the young Andy Gray. Secondly , Willie Young having a massive strop when he got subbed...... took his top off , flung it into the dugout and stormed off straight down the tunnel. Never played for us again. Coincidentally, I was on AFC Heritage, and there was new pic on the home page, that had John Jocky Scott scoring a pen against Dundee United from what I believed was the 1975/76 season. It looked like Brian McGinlay (Balfron) was reffing and I erroneously thought it was too early for him. The first game I checked was the Willie Young game, although the actual game was a 5-3 match. Was Willie Young itching for his move down south by that time? It's got a certain feel about the McKenna situation to it... Was Willie Young popular with our fans? I never think of him as an ex Aberdeen player when I watch old footage. I thought he acted like a bit of throbber on the pitch. I can't believe he played for both Spurs and Arsenal although Spurs were a bit pish around his time. He might have played in the team that was relegated actually. Looks like a taller Barry Robson. I was born 17 days before that Willie Young match. Actually, that pic wasn't on AFC Heritage home. I can't remember where I saw it now.
