Rodhull
Quote The Club confirms it has received positive news to the injury sustained by Ross McCrorie at the weekend. Following further investigation, scans have shown there is no fracture as first feared, although he has sustained muscle damage surrounding his ankle which will rule him out for a few weeks. Jonny Hayes and Ash Taylor are continuing to improve however, Connor McLennan will have a consultation with a specialist about his ongoing foot problem. Manager Derek McInnes added: “Thankfully, following an X-RAY there was no fracture on Ross’s ankle, but what’s come to light is that he’s punctured the muscle surrounding the ankle and it will mean two to three weeks out, rather than the two to three months which we were anticipating so that’s great news. “Jonny is off his crutches and we are working to get the swelling reduced so we can assess how he will be for this weekend. Ash is still having some issues with his back so we’re waiting to see how he responds this week but he’s got a lot to do before he’s fit for Saturday. “Greg Leigh is back training and Dylan is improving so we hope he will get back to training in a week or so.” Injury updates. Good-ish news for Mccrorie and Hayes. Sounds like McLennan will still be out for a while.

DrewDon
Bit of a weird one for McLennan considering he was in the squad on Saturday.
HarleyQuinn
I cant believe hows many injuries we've had over the past 3 seasons. Imo its been the difference between us finishing 4th or 3rd.

Either we're signing players with a history of injuries, or we're overusing players/not allowing them to recover etc. It can't just be hard luck. The club said last month that they’re having a review into the number of injuries and whether there is anything they can do to come to the bottom of the problem.
Irrational Behaviour
Chalk and cheese in comparison to 2013 to circa 2016 where we very rarely had anyone injured. We managed to go on very successful winning runs during that era because it was essentially the same team every week. I do think it's down to signing players with a history of injuries but you do have to question the sports science behind it all. If I recall correctly, there was a game during the Brown era where we had an entire first XI out injured.
Dons_1988
Yeah the problem is recruitment, in my totally uninformed opinion. Since the break up of the 2017 team we've taken too many gambles IMO on players with ability but who's track record suggests they won't be reliable. The likes of Wright, Mclennan etc are obviously a different matter but doesn't necessarily have to be the club at fault there.

It's probably because you focus on signing injury prone players, tbh. Straight off the bat Hoban, Devlin, McGeough, and Hayes are all hellish for picking up injuries.

I suppose it's high risk and high reward, if you gamble on an injury prone player who's body can't hack it, but they are quality, and they stave off the injuries, you've got a great signing. Unfortunately, that never really seems to be the case. Craig Bryson is another one we signed with an injury, I think. It's certainly a criticism of Richardson/McInnes, the lack of imagination in recruitment, and the amount of players we sign who spend their time on the treatment table. Yep, it's risk/reward. You could argue that our investment in Hoban is now paying off, albeit we could still lose him for nothing in the Summer. However, you can't build the nucleus of your team around unreliable players. We almost signed Shaun Maloney to be our star man and we dodged a bullet in that his injuries were so bad he had to retire. I don't know the recruitment strategy, but my perception after 2017 was that we lost so much of our first XI that we've tried too hard to replace like for like in terms of quality too quickly with either ageing or injury prone players.

Hoban investment definitely paying off, despite how bad he was on Saturday. Normally he's consistent. I still don't think the manager should get a free injury pass, like many do, however. I agree, I generally think a lot of the criticism is over the top but I don't think he can blame luck for the injuries we've accumulated.

He's got the third most expensive squad in the league, we're hard to watch, finished 4th the last two seasons, and don't look like improving. Starting a season with the calibre of striker at the club was absolutely horrendous. Failing to utilise an 800K marquee signing in his natural position, after we switched to the 3-4-3, isn't great either. Some of the criticism of McInnes may be personal, but I don't think he's doing a good job, generally, given what he has at his disposal. If you also factor in that he's probably the highest ever paid non Old Firm manager, it doesn't look great either. I mean, the debate has been done to death so I can't be arsed regurgitating all my thoughts on the manager again. I agree he is underperforming, I don't necessarily share the view that requires immediate removal. Also the Hernandez thing seems unfair as it would seem Mcinnes had very little to do with any of that.

So, I wouldn't say it's unfair to suggest it's a balls up. Should he be given til the end of his contract? I would suggest he was told to claim it as his own as it's not a great look for the club if he comes out and says he didn't want him at the grand unveiling. He should be given until the end of the season and then we re-assess as a club.
DukDukGoose
Not going to quote a million posts there but I agree with @Dons_1988 that recruitment is the biggest issue. If Derek just wants to be a direct team then sign players to do that. If he wants to implement the nice football we play at the beginning of most seasons then sign players to do that. Instead you end up with some weird set up where you have Dylan McGeouch playing 5 one twos with a centre half before the ball goes long to Cosgrove and there's no support because the rest of the team are 40 yards away. Most on here probably won't agree but for me the club should be going down the actual Director of Football route.
coprolite
I put the injuries down to the players being millenial snowflakes. There's f**k all wrong with them. In my day your leg had to fall off before you got substituted.

HarleyQuinn
Whats the bet we sign both Jones and Stewart. Stewart to replace McGinn and Jones for Scott Wright. Both very good players on their day. If Stewart is not just shoehorned in he'd be a good signing. McInnes just needs to utilize him appropriately. Cosgrove and Hernandez hopefully sold in the next week. Get Watkins and Ross Stewart signed on preseason contracts. That would make things look a little brighter after a miserable opening few weeks of January. Still hopefully Gallagher and Campbell on pre-season contracts too.
