Heart of Midlothian 2014-

Recommended Posts

Only mugs happy enough to have their pants pulled down around their ankles will think he's worth less than £1 million.

Recent transfers on both sides of the border make this very clear.

£1 million for a back up player who has only played regularly when we literally had no other options(season 13/14) and immediately lost his place when Danny Wilson regained fitness(season 14/15). Every other player who has been transferred from Scotland for similar fees recently have been proven first team regulars and proved it consistently. McGhee hasn't done anything to demand such a fee as had been quoted in this thread. I really like McGhee but £1million is a ridiculous valuation.

To continue with your charming metaphor

You seem to assume we'll be able to find a team whose knickers we can forcibly lower in a similar manner to the way Rangers dealt with David Weir's Brentford when they stung them for £850k

I'm not saying that it can't happen but it seems rash to assume that it will.

If we sell McGhee then Ipswich should be fleeced, they obviously think he has potential so they can pay through the nose if they want him. With the money flying about just now anything less that a million they can f**k off.

Nobody is going to pay £1m for McGhee right now.

McGrandles from Norwich went for that, as did MacLeod. McGhee has played more first team games than both of them, as well as being the Scotland under 21 captain. We should absolutely be using them as the benchmark.

The McGrandles deal was £1m after add-ons, I doubt we'll ever receive a full £1m for him. Macleod was the same, I'm sure. On the subject of appearances though, when McGrandles left he'd played roughly twice as many games as McGhee has now, never mind less!

I'd fleece Ipswich for all you can get though.

Lewis MacLeod had played about 30 more games for Rangers than McGhee too, but at a lower level.

Does McGhees contract not run out after next season? Meaning next season will be his last one? Generally this situation leads to a club accepting less as the player makes it clear he wants to leave and will simply wait for his contract to expire.

Spot on. Teams up here are all to happy to accept what they are given, we should be telling ipswich to cough up or f**k up.

McGhee has played less than McLeod or MxGrandles did but he's playing in a position where it's much more difficult to establish yourself. He's literally just turned 19, has 2 years on his deal and there's no need to sell. We know Ipswich have money as they just got £8m for their own young centre half and turned down a multi million pound bid for Murphy.

Why should we bend over and take a bid in the low 6 figures for the Scotland u21 captain? It's why Scottish clubs in general toil for fees as we take anything that's chucked at us from down south. We shouldn't accept anything less than 750k IMO.

Because in 12 months you'll be praying someone offers £500k as he's half a season from leaving for nothing.

Why? He could easily sign an extension, he's happy here and isn't chasing a move. And if we only get a few hundred grand for him it's not much worse than what people on here are suggesting we accept now.

Because Ipswich could tell his agent they'll multiply his wages by five times what Hearts will offer, and theres not a chance his head wouldnt be turned.

£300k-£500k, an add on for promotion and then a sell on percentage seems a great deal, and certainly seems worth it for a youngster who wont play a major part and is also out of contract soon.

How is 2 years soon? Even if he left for nowt at the end of his deal and we took it to tribunal we'd probably not be far off £300k so I don't think it'd be a great deal for Hearts at all.

If you think it is that's fair enough, I'd be extremely disappointed with anything under 500k and would be wanting at least 750k to sell. We got 250k with add ons for Adam King who had 1 appearance and we were struggling for money.
