Given that gate money for cup matches is shared with the visiting team, it would be the road to financial ruin to include them on the Season Ticket.

Need you ask. It's dopey Doncaster who dreams up these farcical schemes. He should have been sacked when the leagues were amalgamated and Longmuir given his job.

Doncaster should not have gotten the job, but Longmuir was not the answer either, a new broom was needed Edited by ecto

Exactly

A £54 saving on league games is still good value. You're basically getting your 4 cup games/play off game for free anyway. That's if we get a home Scottish cup tie.

I've always been of the opinion that a season ticket should be exactly that - every home game for that season, simple as. Over the years, it's become far more common for teams to have a 'season' ticket that is just for league games, or league games plus a cup game, and I've always liked that we've stuck with exactly how it should be, a proper season ticket.

Unfortunately, due to the chances in both cup competitions, if the draws were bad to us, we could lose a fair whack of cash. The Challenge Cup had lost teams money in previous years even in the original format; imagine a CC game away to Stranraer on a Saturday with a crowd of 250..... travel costs to pay, appearance/ bonus money to be paid to the players etc. and if the gate was split the same way as the Scottish Cup it'd be 37% of gate receipts to the away club.... so you're looking at £800-£1000. In this example, Stranraer would be in an even worse position, with maybe a gate of 100 paying punters plus season tickets and having to pay their own appearance/ bonus money plus give us over our share of the gate. They'd probably end up down £1000/ £1500 for the privilege of playing us in a 'glamourised' pre-season friendly.

Unfortunately the new format is even more absurd. Unless the SPFL are planning to pay for travel costs for every away team in the competition, or at least for teams who have to travel over a certain distance then a majority of teams could lose out if they all had season ticket holders making up the majority of the overall attendance in games.

If the draw had been unkind to us in the League Cup, we could have got Inverness, Dumbarton, Cowden and Cove. It's not hugely unlikely something like this could happen considering we do have two of the four mentioned. If this happened it could be the case that we'd lose quite a bit of cash if season tickets made up 80% of our home crowds and we had long away trips to with shit gate receipts to pay for them. Add on the other clusterfuck of a cup competition and away games at Ross County U20s away on a Wednesday and another U20s team at home after that only to be rewarded with some Welsh mob away in the 3rd round.... the amount of cash we could lose is quite considerable.. and if season tickets counted for home games that could amount of a fair whack being paid out regardless of the travel. This way if we're all paying £10 a head for three shit home cup draws instead of getting in on the ST the club could save/ make a five figure fee.....

I don't particularly agree with the decision, but I fully understand why it's been made. My preference would've been to put the price of the season ticket up £10 or even £20 and have it still covering all matches. We're still getting a good deal, saving money on two more guaranteed games and still get friendlies and the potential challenge cup games 'free' while unless we get really shit draws in the cups the increase in price would cover any losses made by being in the competitions.

I m sure the challenge cup is played on a Saturday after the first few rounds, usually when there s a international fixture,so if we did get so far and ended up in Wales it would prob be played on a Sat.

Longmuir might not have been the long term solution but initially he was a better option than Doncaster.

also season tickets no longer valid for cup ties and play offs

Due to the league cup format we had to scrap our AV season ticket (basically a season ticket with a few perks) which cost more than the standard season ticket plus our standard season tickets don't cover cup games or play offs. We'll have lost some money due to these changes.

one of the things mentioned at tonights meeting was next seasons petrofac/challenge cup starts with bottom 8 in division 2, 4 from lowland and 4 from highland as well as all 12 spl under 20 teams , then after a couple of rounds 2 irish and 2 welsh join in , not a wind up ! the balance sheet was not bad a working profit of just under 8k compared to minus 32k last year. manager is in portugal so couldnt attend but were informed of another 3 or 4 signings and that will do it.bosses brother is on good terms with both dundee clubs and aberdeen and some loans may come along

Not that it matters because it's going to be an utter farce of a competition regardless, but are those definitely the numbers?

That would give a first round of 28, leaving 14 of those sides in after the first round. If the remaining 22 Championship/League 1/League 2 sides join at that point you're up to 36, add the Welsh & Irish at that point it's 40. Wait another round to add them to the 18 who progress through the second round it gives you 22.

How are they going to make the numbers work to eventually balance out to a round of 32/16/8? Are they leaving some Championship clubs out? Will they provide wildcard re-entry for whichever eliminated under-20 teams they like the most? Will they offer places to the champions of Swaziland and Lesotho to balance out the numbers? Can't wait to see what they come up with.
