Hi guys. Apologies for dropping in unannounced.

Most of you will have seen that Ryan Conroy called it a day last month. He's a Dumbarton boy so I had a big chat with him about his career for the paper, and he spoke in glowing terms about his time with you lot. Article is here if you want to give it a wee read.

Nice wee article, thanks for sharing. Ryan scored some great goals for us, especially a cracker at Tannadice when we had to play with 10 men for more than an hour. Deadly on PK's as well. Will always be fondly remembered at Dens

The last game Dundee played was the 30th of September. 3 weeks tomorrow. Mental when you think about it.

I can see the game being off tomorrow given the weather warning extended and given the A90 currently closed Northbound...In which case we need to rely on the pitch being playable on Tuesday for Ross county. Whether that will actually happen is anyones guess.

Feels like our season has been so stop-start so far, can't be easy for preparation.

I hadn't realised that his screamer at The Rock against us was a decade ago. I still think about it every time a left-footed player sizes one up from 25 yards or so at that end of the ground.

He's a nice guy and would be an asset to someone in a coaching role one day of he ever fancies it I reckon. But for now I got the feeling he was really enjoying the opportunity to be a normal dad and spend time with his wee man on week nights and weekends. Which is a far better use of time than shouting at folk on a pissing wet pitch every weekend!

Our game is going to be off because of this storm isn't it? Feel like I'm going to die of old age before this international break ends.

Apparently every game in an Amber/Red vicinity is getting the chop.

Probably the best penalty taker I've seen, can't remember him missing.

Disappointed the only way Docherty thought we could compete with County was to match their horrendous long ball game. Atrocious game of football which was played in the completely opposite way to suit the players we had starting in midfield. Build a squad of technical players and have them bypassed while hoofing it - strange one.

Clearly missing Cameron, Tiffoney and Robinson as options from the bench tonight. Think Mulligan would've made a difference too.

At the end of the season not getting beat from your competitors is vital. Its more the rancid display that's hard to take tonight. At least it's been far from the norm this season.

Positives were Lamie and Portales at times. Carson probably saved us from losing a game we would've with Legzdins in goal.

We move on swiftly and never bring that game to mind again.

Thank you.

Brutal on the eye tonight, lets hope it was just down to not playing for a few weeks for us.

Plus side Pineda looked decent and probably had more shots on target in 10 mins than Robinson has managed this season.

Target for the season for me is finish 10th which is where we are now with a game in hand so happy enough for now.

Hard not to be disappointed by that result. Hopefully more a case of our rustiness and missing some key creative players rather than a regression to the mean.

Glad to hear Pineda showed something positive, maybe needed that bit of time to get accustomed to the Scottish game?

All our strikers seem to lack quality and their goal tally will be lucky to be over 5 come end of the season. Relying on goals from elsewhere it looks like. Pineda looked alright when he came on but I thought he should have done better with both of his chances. Hey ho, can't win then don't get beat. On to the next one.

Agreed. Posted similar on the DB forum:

Genuinely believe if we had a Kane Hemmings-esque striker, we'd be very close to the finished article.

Zak Rudden - Lots of effort, but still, for me, nowhere near being a top level striker.

Amadou Bakayoko - Has his uses, but easily could have cost us the game last night with his slackness and don't see him being a freescoring striker. Bit too lackadaisical for me at times. Has a big frame, but doesn't win as many headers as he should. I'd be happy with him getting around 5-6 goals this season. Sounds like I'm being overly negative but I do like Bakayoko and the clear first name of the current batch of strikers to be on the teamsheet but he's more of a link up man than our goal getter.

Zach Robinson - Loads of potential and still (IMO) our best striker, but struggled this season being out of position and looks low on confidence. Key we get him up and running. Probably a step too far to be relying on him so soon into his career though.

Diego Pineda - Good wee cameo yesterday but another one I don't see being a freescoring striker.

 7 goals in 8 games.

3 goals came from corners

1 from a free-kick

3 from open play and these all came in the first 3 league games of the season.

Not expecting a 20 goal a season striker - but our lack of goals from open play are the reason we're the draw specialists in the league so far.

Totally agree no cutting edge , Doc will need to a couple of proven strikers up his sleeve for the January window , I’d try josh up front in training and see how he gets on , he can’t be any worse than what we’ve had to offer so far , also I know Cammy has his knockers on here , but he offers much more of an attacking threat than Jordon McGhee up that wing

I'm hoping that the knock Robinson has been carrying has been the reason he hasn't been firing.  Like you, I still think he is our best finisher but we need to get him fit and his confidence back asap.

A good striker up front isn't just exclusive to us, I think what will be the bottom six come the end of the season all have the same problem. It's just inevitable in my opinion that we will continue to rely on the likes of McCowan, Cameron + Tiffoney to chip in with goals along with our defenders from set pieces.

Bakayoko in my opinion has been decent so far, was excellent against Hibs but with no real threat up front. I still think the combination of him and Robinson up front is the one that will work the best. Rudden tries, he really does, but Docherty needs to face facts that he simply isn't good enough.

Pineda & Bakayoko have to start on Saturday against Livingston until we have Robinson back.

Robinson has apparently been carrying an Achilles injury so that's hopefully the reason his performances aren't up to the standard of last season, when he gets back to fitness he should hopefully chip in with more goals.

Rudden is a workhorse but lacks the composure (and lets be honest, talent) to be a decent striker at Premiership level.

I don't know if Pineda is the answer, but I do know that Rudden and an unfit Robinson are not, so it's worth a shot.

With Andy Robertson out for a while, what’s the chances Liverpool take young Beck back?

should that happen I hope the doc has a plan b

He can't be recalled until at least January.

I think Liverpool would rather dip into the transfer market than have Beck as their regular LB if Robertson is out longer than that.

I think the absolute worst case scenario would be them recalling him in January to sit him on the bench for a couple of weeks before sending him back to us again nearer the deadline.

A bigger worry than Robertson being injured is that they recall him due to a bigger club being interested in giving him first team football IMO.
