The SevCo vs The Saints

Mad Capsule

Should be an easy enough win for the super J's.

Anything less would be an abject disgrace....

The Super J's? Rangers may just be a Second Division team but I doubt our Under-16 section would beat their first team.

With our record against lower league opposition in cup ties since 2007 being Played 23, Won 22, Drawn 1, Lost 0, For 67, Against 9, on paper this looks a good tie for Saints

However I am not taking anything for granted, no doubt that convicted tax dodger Dave King will do a take over the night before the game and give Rangers a confidence boost.

There is literally nothing to fear in that Rangers team. I'm still utterly amazed that ICT bottled it so badly but cup upsets do happen I suppose. There will be a sub 20k crowd so it's not even as if that will intimidate the saints players either. Teams go to Ibrox with absolutely no fear anymore.

Caley never bottled it. Rangers just didn't let them play and closed them down at any opportunity. I was actually very impressed with Rangers and wondered why they didn't play like that all the time. Maybe they just don't respect the lower league teams, I don't know.

I agree the Premiership teams will go to Ibrox with nothing to fear. After all, the chances of a good result have improved significantly given the standard of the current Rangers team.

I'd still expect Rangers to win fairly easily though. As I said on one of the other threads, your team has only scored more than one goal in just one of their twelve games so far. That statistic surely has to make Rangers clear favourites for the match, added to the fact the game is at Ibrox.

We're playing against a much higher class of defender though. Not scraping draws against the likes of Alloa.

I'm not sure what relevance that statistic has really, considering we've also kept 3 clean sheets in our last four games. We specialise in sitting in, letting our defence dominate the oppositon, and grabbing a goal. A real stodgy fucking outfit. You need quality on the wings to score against us and frankly Lee Wallace is by far the most dangerous wide player for Rangers. We're also having great joy with Graham beating his men and winning headers, neither Moshni or his partner (McGregor? McCulloch?) look any better at defending those balls than what he's already scored against.

To say you expect to be us "fairly easily" is incredibly arrogant though, we're not as good as Caley, but in terms of the type of side who'll beat you you'd struggle to find better outwith Dundee United. Again its just a shame we'll be missing MacLean for this one.

Scraping draws against the likes of Alloa you say.

I'm not sure what a game over 12 months ago really has to do with your point here tbh, you drew with Alloa recently with your current squad.

1) You're not sure what relevance your team only scoring more than one goal once in their twelve games so far has? I think it has a lot of relevance. Rangers will probably get at least one goal so can your team then score two at Ibrox? Something they rarely do. What if Rangers score two? Can your team then scored three? I really doubt it, although I may be wrong.

2) True, but the likes of MacLeod, Templeton, Aird, Smith etc are all also capable of getting crosses into the box.

3) Arrogant? Maybe, but less arrogant than some of the fans of your club who are defying logic by predicting an easy game. :)

we were still able to out play ICT who are sitting top of your oh so wonderful top division.

You beat a weakened ICT 1-0 at home, thanks to a deflected shot, with a settled squad. We narrowly lost to a full strength ICT, away, with three regular starters missing and a central midfielder making his first start.

1) If you're wanting to claim we'll only score one goal because statistics suggest it, then you'll also be claiming we'll keep a clean sheet, as statistics suggest that. Its pointless.

2) They are all bog standard wide players who won't get in behind us. MacLeod and Aird seem more like central midfielders stuck on the wings who'll drift inside anyway

3) Most of our fans are merely trying to wind you up, much like StandFree. Although we've been one of the best sides in the country over the past few years, and have the bulk of the team that won the Scottish Cup last season still here. Our midfield is possibly even stronger with Lappin and Murray Davidson coming in. Rangers fans seem to be predicting an easy win simply because you're Rangers playing St Johnstone. I culd undertsand this viewpoint four years ago, not now.

Quietly confident going into this game. Then again we have a manager who insists on picking the utter bombscare that is Bilel Mohsni so really anything is possible!

So Saints draw The Rangers in the last eight of the League Cup. Did a bit of research and it seems the last time we lost to a lower league side in a cup tie was way back on 12th Sept 2006 when we got beat by Morton in the Challenge Cup . Since then we have played 27 domestic cup ties against lower league opposition.

We have won 25, plus one on Pens and drawn one.

Raith 3-1

Forfar4-0

Livi 2-0

Morton 1-0

Hamilton 3-0

Queens Park 4-1

Cowdenbeath 3-0

Brechin 2-1

Livi 3-0

Partick Th. 2-0

Brechin 1-0

Brechin 2-2

Morton 2-0

QOS 3-0

Forfar 3-0

Stenhousemuir 5-0

Arbroath 6-0

Stenhousemuir 5-1

Raith Rovers 3-1

Ross County 1-0

Raith Rovers 1-1 ( won on Pens)

Ross County 2-0

Brechin 4-1

East Fife 3-1

Elgin 4-0

Raith Rovers 3-1 ( AET)

Queens Park 3-0

We have scored 78 and conceded only 11.

As long as we approach this game the same way as we always do against diddy teams, work hard and take it seriously, we will go through.

Bring on The Rangers please.

Unlike everyone else on the forum, I haven't actually watched a Rangers game since the last Old Firm game. A couple of serious questions for the Rangers fans -

1. Will Bell and Miller be fit for this? I really rate them and as horrible as it sounds to have a player injured, them being out will really boost our chances.

2. Have you really been playing as horrible as everyone says?

3. Is Moshni as bad as everyone says?

4. How do you plan on setting up for this one? I suspect we'll play one up front, will you go the same?

5. Any idea how much tickets will be? Without sounding like I'm having a dig, will this be all ticket? I presume it'll be a lowish crowd?

6. Where do you see danger in the St Johnstone side? Do you think we'll be easier to beat than Inverness?

1) Bell no, Miller yes.

2) Not been great, but 32 goals in 11 games proves the team is at least scoring a lot of goals.

3) No. But he's definitely the weak link in defence in terms of giving the ball away too easily.

4) Probably 4-4-2.

5) About £20. Maybe lower due to expected lack of sales.

6) I do think it will be an easier match than the Inverness game. There's not any stand-out players in the team. Just an honest bunch operating as a unit, as they say. Doubt any would get a game for Rangers to be honest. I think they'd do well to even finish 6th. Their best tactic against Rangers would be to defend and try and create something on the break. Rangers have proven however that they can eventually get goals against teams who try to frustrate them and slow play down.

Cheers for the feedback. Looking forward to the game. Reckon we'll have to frustrate Rangers and counter.

Not sure about your point about our players not getting a game. Mannus is twice the keeper Bell is and Murray Davidson would walk into any midfield in any team in the SPL. Not sure about the rest, our defence is solid but quite slow for example and we have Gary McDonald who is dross.

Kenny should be back but knowing our crack medical team.... (i'd rather have Clark fit and playing)

A few bad spells but we've also played some nice stuff at times and the teams starting to look like a team now.

Good in the air at both ends, can play when he wants to but tends to lose concentration at times and can be erratic.

4 4 2 hopefully but Ally does have a thing for thing for 1 upfront. Depends on who is fit and available i suppose.

Lucky if 20k turn up

Haven't watched St Johnstone for a few years and i've no idea who is still in their team.

If we want to go back a season, we can see Rangers losing to Raith, Dundee United and Forfar in cup competitions. As well as earning a memorable draw against Albion Rovers.

Oh dear.

Rangers have got stronger whereas St Johnstone have lost their best player. Rangers will be strong favourites as it is only recently they beat ICT who were joint top of the league. How did St Johnstone get on against ICT?

1- Bell is a big loss as he is on a par with anything in Scotland at the moment. Miller should be fit but we have yet to see the best of him.

2- Rangers are incredibly inconsistent. If we play anywhere near how we can then it doesn't matter what St Johnstone do we will win the game in a canter. The problem is we have an absolute shocker every 3 or 4 games. If that happens St Johnstone will have a chance.

3- He is a nightmare of a player. I am fed up with people making excuses for him. He will gift you at least one clear chance at least. His one attribute is he is decent in the air so if you go 'route 1' there is a chance he will look half decent. He is quite dangerous at set pieces but our delivery is shocking at times.

4- Rangers will go 4-4-2 and will use either Aird or Temps outwide.

5- It will be around £20ish. It will be all ticket and possibly pay at the gate depending on ticket sales.

6- Of course you will be easier than ICT as they are a better team. St Johnstones best bet...only bet is if we have a shocker and we are more than capable of that

I'd forgotten just how incredibly self-obsessed Rangers fans were. You won't win at a canter as you say you will (barring the 1 every 3/4 analogy). Having watched a few of your games on the TV this season, we have absolutely nothing to fear. Home advantage is the only thing that sets you apart from us. I'd rate our chances as at least 50%.
