A referendum in the near future would almost certainly kill of the idea of independence for a lot longer than a political generation. The focus needs to be on the new powers. We need to make sure the scottish Parliament does well with the new powers given to it to really increase confidence in its ability to run the country, one of the biggest (and also the daftest IMO) reason people voted no. At the same time, we need to be building up a stronger case on the economy, provide a more definite answer to the currency issue and also ensure the yes campaign is more inclusive for those in the middle/upper classes and anyone who would consider themselves right of centre politically.

A lot of work is required before we can even think about pushing for another referendum. It's going to take years to build up confidence and a strong enough case on the major issues before yes will even draw level in terms of popularity.

Public opinion will decide when we have another one.

It costs millions to hold one, too much time and money when politicians should be concentrating on running the country, not breaking it up. To be honest there is more chance of Cowdenbeath winning the Champions League than another referendum in less than 20 years. If the Yes camp actually win a referendum that makes it 1-1, there would HAVE to be a decider. None of us alive today will live to see Scottish independence, maybe in 100 years or so but still very unlikely.

 a decider ? Aye OK. If the majority of Scottish people want a referendum in X years time there will be a referendum in X years time. It's really that simple and all the praying from no voters for it to just go away won't make a blind bit of difference.

Who is going to count "the majority" in x years time, that is daft. Politiciand decide, and Westminster will put a stop to a second one.

If Westminster say naw they'll just push more over to yes. That's how Scots work. They'll have to bite the bullet and hope for a result.

The YES camp had all the momentum and still got walloped, sorry, still too much time and money wasted on referenda, christ knows how many millions of pounds were spent recently. Maybe the English will have a referendum and dump US, that is more likely.

President Obama would never allow it.

US needs UK more than UK needs US. <- In this instance you can take US to mean both your intention and my interpretation (Subsidy junkies that we are!).

You should go out dressed as yourself.

Was watching Jabba Bailie on STV News - she didn't mention Westminster not allowing another referendum and turning the UK into North Korea.

Funny that because that's the first thing that was mentioned by the brit nats on here. Maybe they're just cuckoo right enough...

How much did it cost the taxpayer?

I'm thinking very little indeed, with both campaigns being funded by donors.
