RandomGuy.
He hasn't been in the squad since 2012 which is ridiculous in itself, and he has only played under Levein which has also probably scarred the lad. He is only 24 but looks to have hit his prime, and his prime is looking very very good. He was called up in 2013, for Strachans first game, a friendly against Estonia. paul-r-cfc
Did Phillips not play the match away to Serbia with Boyd and bridcutt? He definitely played the USA pumping game though although only a friendly
RobbieD
Is he even still eligible for England? Isn't there some rule about when you change once by a certain age, that's it?
King Kebab
Matt Phillips has played five games for the England u19's and 5 games for the England u20's, he has only played for Scotland twice, making his debut in the 5-1 embarrassment away to the USA on the 27th May 2012 where he got 90 minutes in a friendly and (probably more importantly) he got his second cap against Belgium on the 16th October 2012 when he came on for the last 12 minutes in the World Cup Qualifiying tie!!! So, in total, he has been in seven squads, made the starting 11 in one and came on in one and has been an unused sub in the other 5!!! His last call-up was for the Estonia friendly in Febuary 2013, where he was an unused sub!!! ETA: highlighting and underlining important stuff!!! PlayTheEasyBaw
Watched City v QPR yesterday and although it might be unfair to judge on this particular game, Phillips looks decent going forward but not so impressive going back the way. With Hutton or Whittaker at right back and Phillips in front of them, I would have serious concerns down our right side againt decent opposition. In all honesty that sentence is just as relevant without the bit in bold.

Driver eight
Absolutely not good enough. There's a reason why he's playing for a guff team and not even a regular. George Boyd, James Forrest, GMS are obviously far better footballers.

P.s he is a regular, p.s most of our team are either from the SPL or English Championship, p.s George Boyd also just got relegated, p.s Phillips will STILL be in the Premiership next season. dundee ton
More assists than anyone else in the premiership in 2015 according to match of the day too.

Being in the premiership doesn't make you a great player. Obviously Scott Brown is better than Arfield or McArthur or Adam. Phillips looks really limited from the highlights I watch and he plays for a dross team. For Scotland he looks like a fish out of water. The lad from Bournmouth looked equally lost at the step up in class.

So surely by that logic then playing in a better league makes you a better player, basically like how you stated playing in a guff team makes you a guff player? Phillips has been QPRs star player in 2015 and he is very much a regular. So really your comment makes little sense.

hoobahabba
Needs to get another chance, soon. Doing very well for QPR who would probably smash any team in Scotland despite being at the bottom of the prem.

He probably deserves a call up to the squad but QPR beating any team in Scotland is completely irrelevant.

When/ If he's called up, and plays terribly for Scotland; will you drop this bizarre campaign ? We've been through a period of trialling shite players like Mackie, Fox, Dobie because they were getting a game in the premiership. Strachan's been successful because he's picked players with footballing ability: Lets not go back to the dark days of picking players because they're tall or fast or black.
