We were still within touching distance at that point too. Eh?????

It did take me a second to get my head round his use of 'we' there, because St Mirren were never really in touching distance. Anyway, probably my favourite illustrative example of how wildly Duffy lost the plot is Frank Ross. Ever present in our good run, he was bombed out after that, initially we thought for a rest but it turned out Duffy just wanted to accommodate John Baird at his expense. Now the season is over, we can look at the definitive stats with and without Ross since he signed. Ross in the starting eleven: P12 W7 D3 L2 Ross out the starting eleven: P7 W1 D1 L5 The two defeats with him were against Celtic and St Mirren, the one win without him was against Brechin. There's no clearer sign that Duffy didn't have a clue how to use the players at his disposal than his continual dropping of Ross. And therefore entirely understandable that Duffy got booted, given that for the 2nd season in a row, you completely chucked it away from an very promising position, this time plummeting to 7th and a meagre 3 points above us - which considering our lamentable point and laugh showing pre-January, shows Duffy's trajectory to be most definitely downwards.

Didn't they also make the QF of the League Cup? No and no. Those claims will no doubt form the central points of a Davie Provan meltdown in the near future though.
Branch Ton
If promotion is a serious target then some explanation of why we failed to spend seriously and strengthen in January is required. The references to Development Squad and Community’are all very well but everything still has the smell of the sustainability business model being in play going forward. We will need someone who takes a firm line with the Board. -
Piehutt
Jackie MacNamara was asked at the PFA awards last night by Peter Martin if he was going to get back into coaching and he said ‘No’. so I think you can move that one into the extremely unlikely column. The thing that confuses me about the manager vacancy listing is putting a closing date on it by next Tuesday. Surely this will mean many coaches still involved in playoffs will not apply and will obviously not know their own fates with their clubs or what league they will be in. Also does this mean we are not going to approach people in current roles? Iain McColl & Stevie Aitken - both with links to the club who could expect to still be with their current clubs next season.

Maybe it’s already a done deal but we need to be seen to go through the process. If next season’s squad size is based on the number of Dr Strange’s sock puppet accounts we should be ok. -

Jamie_M
As above, surely like Easter but falls in a different day for the collapse Because we have form for, and repeated our, end of season collapse does not mean that, at the point pre-collapse, it was not in our own hands, which is the point that was stated that you fought.

We signed 5 in January. That was in no way unreasonable.

Don't think that will really affect things. If they want to apply, they will apply. If they want to interview, they interview. If they get offered it, only at that point do they actually have to make a decision. Their situation at their current club could be more clear by the time that comes round.

So how much additional money do you reckon the Board advanced to facilitate these signings given we were already paying for Iredale and Strapp? How much more do you think was needed to get quality particularly in the goal scoring department rather than the dross, other than Ross we ended up with. -

Tonfan1974
Looks like it's time to build a new team as will be surprised if there's not a significant exodus. On their day this group were as good as any in the Championship and pretty much all of the guys could do a job for any of the better supported rivals. Last 3 games have put a real dampener on what was otherwise a competitive season. Jim Duffy took us back to respectability after the disastrous relegation. Would love to see a good number of the players staying on. Let's give our new Chairman a chance with his plans. Season ticket was always getting renewed.
