paul-r-cfc
Seems a lot of travel companies are slashing package holidays to Greece in light of the financial cluster f**k the country is walking into. Thomas Cook taking as much as 50% off some. As long as you bring cash to avoid empty/busy ATMs, tourists will be relatively safe from a potential 'grexit'. They'll be stuck with the euro for a wee while anyway Anybody heading there this summer?
Mr Rational
Cephalonia in September. I normally go at least once a year to Greece, love the place.
BFTD
Aye, but what if you end up being mistaken for an asset when the bailiffs are called in? Imagine if North Korea bought your family as part of a reclamation sale!
Aufc
Off to santorini on sunday for 10 days. Have exchanged £600 at the moment but wondering if that is enough?! Was just going to take my card as well and withdraw money for the first few days as and when required
Mr Rational
Prices have dropped but try not to rip the locals off too much. It could be the difference between them staying afloat or going under.

vikingTON
Get there early next month, including both Thessaloniki and Athens; it should be more interesting scenes than your usual, beige city centres with the protests. Can't see anything too drastic happening given the past couple of days' developments tbh. Not sure whether taking sterling to exchange over there would be better or not - they'd certainly be happy to see it in a worst case scenario. paul-r-cfc
Might as well just bring euro in cash. Even in the worst case scenario where they leave the eu, they'll not be changing currency for a while so as a tourist, you'd be covered
Mr Rational
f**k it, going to just take the normal loaded card. I'm sure it's not that bad and they won't kill their tourism industry. Thessaloniki is great btw. Great museum with Artefacts from Sparta etc.
Aufc
Actually just got a travelex "supercard" through the door. Basically you link it to your bank account and can use it like a card but it treats it like a domestic payment rather than foreign. Martin lewis recommended it and there were only like 10k released so might give that a bash

Aufc
Looks very exclusive. Are you the only one there? Its pretty peaceful. Has got busier but think most people stay in oia or fira. This hotel is the perfect location in between them both. Only has 20 rooms
Mr Rational
Been on the trip adviser forums to suss out what is happening over there just now. From what I'm seeing, there doesn't appear to be much of a problem in the resorts for using ATMs. A lot of small businesses are refusing credit cards, but that was always the case.
