As for the original question, it depends on Brexit. If, and as it certainly looks at the moment that Brexit is going to be an utter disaster e.g pound falling even lower, massive inflation, unemployment, and of course Brits being stuck in Brussels airport for 4 hrs (DISASTER!) then you'd imagine within a few years ; but if somehow there's a deal/the UK doesn't leave or Brexit isn't bad, then I don't think we'll see one for a long, long time.
SNP need to sit tight for the next few years, and I doubt we will have one by 2021 ; so the SNP might have to win another election before there is a second referendum. So much depends on what the f**k Brexit actually is. And it won't just be Scotland, it'll be northern Ireland too - still can't believe the DUP voted for Brexit, talking about turkeys voting for Christmas.

I'm inclined to think even a disastrous Brexit will do little for Indy2 and the assumed correlation between the two is probably unfounded. As was the assumption a Leave vote would automatically further the Indy cause. At the moment it's just a comfort blanket.

Indy2......tumbleweed....
Realistically though guys apart from the more fervent on here it's ceased to be a talking point for almost everyone.Donald T poked the corpse with a stick and even then people stifled yawns.

I know. You should thank me really.

If Nicola confirms a pursual of Indyref2 in this parliament it will result in a proverbial "kick in the ballots" much worse than the last one.My guess is she will say next to nothing on the subject for years now and hope no-one notices.Wise to do so imho.

Just the 4 posts to stop the thread slipping.

It's time the Scottish Govt just got on with this and nailed down a period within which the referendum will take place.

Brexit is very obviously going to f**k these islands. This UK govt hasn't the faintest fucking idea what it's doing but them that voted for it can get on with it whilst those of us who didn't should decide whether we stay and get shafted or get out and back into civilisation.

All this "kicked into the long grass" rubbish is just that - rubbish. Let's have the vote and let's keep voting with every mandate the people of Scotland give the parliament.

By the time we're ready to vote the people of Scotland will need an incredible level of sycophancy to hang around and get reamed by Brexit.

If you keep losing again and again and again maybe you are missing something.

"Record number of students from deprived areas get in to University"

Yoons dismayed.

Another resounding 'getting on with the day job' triumph for the Scottish National Party.

Some utterly desperate Labour/Tory britnat fluff in this article:

Every half wit and his dog goes to University these days. It's all for show as no-one wants a graduate with a bullshit degree from a shite University whose only reason to exist is to hoover up cash from foreign students.

If you truly want to help kids from deprived backgrounds then create  thousands of extra training places for doctors (and nurses )and break the stranglehold the middle classes have on Junior Doctor jobs and smash the other bastions of  the middle class power stranglehold such as law, education and  local  government positions. These people have proven themselves incapable of doing anything other than pressing their noses to the trough and denying access for everyone else.

The result is the unequal and unfair society we live in today..

At present , we are just scratching at the surface of the problem.

Still not obvious to everyone just yet.  Even if Sturgeon waited until next March to make an announcement we'd still have plenty of time for the campaign and by then the shit will truly have hit the fan.  The only thing that might derail the independence train is a massive about turn by the UK

The assumption that a hard BREXIT equals an easy route to independence is seriously flawed and just operates as a wee bit reassurance for those that haven't noticed things have changed a bit. My feeling is people even with a hard BREXIT won't rush to add another layer of uncertainty. We heard this theory about a Leave vote leading to a surge for Indy2 and it was demonstrated to be false as well.

So people rushed towards uncertainty with open arms when they voted Brexit?

Actually there was a massive spike in popularity for a Yes vote in several polls conducted in the aftermath of the brexit referendum. That died away as, like the phoney war in 1939, everyone realized bad things weren't about to happen. Yet in people's imaginations, there clearly was enough shock in the referendum result to push them, even temporarily, towards Yes.

Now, there is a new reality, everyone's settled into the new normal. it does suggest that the reality of a hard Brexit may still be enough for the fabled 50+1.
