Benjamin_Nevis
It's absolutely brilliant to see the extent to which P&B has broken Kincy. The death of Rangers, the numerous humiliations of Sevco since 2012 and now the absolute shambles of the Conservative party have turned him into a thoroughly bitter, self loathing bigot. Or he's pretending to be one. Either is an absolutely tragic state of affairs of course, but it's also really, really funny.
Anonapersona
12 hours ago, The_Kincardine said: What that flag meant was vast wealth for Scottish shipbuilders - with hundreds of vessels being built on the Clyde to a. ship arms to Scotland's big Confederate pals by running Union blockades and b. return raw cotton and tobacco to be processed in the West of Scotland. Scotland, of course, loved slavery to a much greater extent than England and the cities of Dundee and Glasgow were built on the back of it with Scottish banking houses in Edinburgh and London growing fat through financing it. Even our bard accepted a job as a slavemaster in Jamaica! So when a sanctimonious poster like you greets about flags and, "all the strife that Britain has created in other nations" I can look at the Confederate flag and remind myself that it was, disproportionately, we Scots who are guilty. No. What that flag meant was misery for countless individuals. I would agree that there's not many nations that are innocent when it comes to slavery, but at least most of us don't flaunt it.
git-intae-thum
He is of course correct that many folk from Scotland profited from slavery and exploited countless numbers of poor souls through empire. Not really Scots though were they. These actions were carried out under the flag of Britain (or England as it was almost universally known to the world until relatively recently.) North Britons is the more appropriate terminology imho.

The Golden God
Mind a guy I worked with when the Commonwealth Games was on and seeing all the flags and how "we" owned them at one point, beaming about how wee Blighty ran the world yet he doesn't have a pot to piss in or 'own' anything in the 21st century, but he does have his Ranjurs, Ulster (fur noo like) and his 17 teeth. Don’t even have Ulster - Donegal, Cavan and Monaghan want a word with him.

Did Boris Johnson, on record, not take pleasure in this too.. ie , said that he was proud that the UK once owned or did own X amount of countries..
O'Kelly Isley III
I don't know why people still engage with Kincardine. Anyone who tries to claim a linkage between the slave trading activities of Scottish merchants of 200-plus years ago and present-day advocates of Scottish Independence is frankly an idiot, and a shitstirring one at that.

I think it stems from his saltiness at being outed as a racist old bigot who’s too shite even to get a gig with his heroes in the EDL.

We showed our slaving and pillaging desire long before there was a political Britain to speak of. Indeed, since Barbados has been in the news, it was our most famous Fifer, Charles II, who gifted the island to his fellow Scot, James Hay, in 1627 to use as his personal possession. Still you have to deny shit like this since one of the pillars of Natterism is Scottish Exceptionalism - the wrong-headed notion that Scotland is ideologically superior to England. What our country's history shows us is that this is utterly moronic. We're no different to England morally or culturally. We've seen this only in the past couple of days. Here, for example, is a prominent Natter politician reveling in the deaths of old folk as it strengthens (or is claimed to) the Natter cause: We also saw yet another vile Natter posting this chilling image on social media: Of course this idea will not be new to those of us who take a passing interest in the Politics subforum since we had our own Scottish Republican Army thread after December's GE - thankfully dealt with swiftly by the mods. So, in the context of IndyRef2, the idea that we're different to England both historically and currently is complete bollocks. We're exactly the same.

Thistle_do_nicely
I mean if he's not violating forum rules or the like then fine, go nuts I guess, but almost all of Kincardine's contributions to the politics section seem a bit pointless to me. I'm not really sure I understand what he gets out of posting here so frequently. It's blatantly not to change any minds with a conciliatory tone, and I don't think I've ever seen anyone go bonkers at anything he's posted, it's usually just "ur club died m9" or "lol you don't live here, nothing to do with you, kthxbye" short and sweet patter so it being trolling doesn't sound right either. Only possible thing I can think of is that it's to convince/reassure himself as he feels the heat of the neverending dumpster fire at Westminster. If that's the case, fill your boots I s'pose; the polling and SNP electoral results are encouraging as someone that wants to see an independent Scotland, long may it continue. Edited September 22, 2020 by Thistle_do_nicely edited to make it a bit more poetic, feeling the heat of the dumpster fire baby
