The Terrible Journalism & Tom English Thread

Recommended Posts

With Bazza it's not so much shite journalism as an interview with a moron. Comments like the above are bad enough, but is it just me that doesn't understand calls for quick managerial appointments or losing patience with the time taken to find a new manager?

Imagine a small to medium company like Rangers with a turnover in the tens of millions, you get a manager with a big budget. Hiring a new manager is a risk. In any industry outwith football the company would consider long and hard the options they have and often spend the best part of a year searching for the right candidate. Given Rangers' recent appointments and their respective longevity, you would think patience and understanding in finding the right candidate would come more naturally to their followers.

The shite journalism lies firstly in dreaming of conducting such an interview; and then in seeing fit to publish the results.

It absolutely is shite journalism.  In fact, it's hard to think of a better example of the genre.

Right.  There are far dumber football players than Barry Ferguson.  If sports people resort to a string of mindless cliches, it's often partly because they are responding to a string of mindless questions.

Hayley McQueen on Sky Sports coverage of the Killie V Aberdeen match "Mulumbu won't be making his debut for Kilmarnock today, he's on loan from West Brom" .... [emoji15]

So to summarize .  Your answer to  people ridiculing journalists for getting upset about Celtics financial disadvantage v PSG and Bayern when the boot is on the other foot in 95% of their games is it's different because it's the same.

I reckon the major difference is PSG are financed by Middle East money at a crazy level. If a player costs £80m they will spend it. £200m buy out? no problem. Celtics funding is driven by the CL TV money. They dont blast money season on season. Quite a few of this squad were the same bunch playing to nowhere near this level under Deila.

I'm sure there'd have been just as much coverage had Gattuso played for Dundee, Motherwell, Hamilton, etc

They're very selective with the HYS (or not) selections too these days. I wonder why? :o
