What's the point of that? It's due to different commercial contracts. WTA uses different balls to the ATP. I think at ITF events they all use the same balls. Despite being as experienced as Murray is, he is easily distracted. Once he noticed the women's ball potentially got used he lost his serve in that service game. He played some lovely tennis though but didn't quite have the consistency to make the match easier. The first set finished 6-3 but should have been 6-1 and the second set should have been over at no more than 6-3. He will play Dimitrov in the next round. Jamie Murray Hibsed his attempt to become world number one in the doubles rankings when they surprisingly lost last night. Was a good chance missed to consolidate no. 2 in the rankings with Fed out for the past few tournaments. Losing early in the first two tournaments after losing an Australian Open final is pretty much standard Andy Murray form. Last year it was Coric and Simon. This year Del Bonis and Dimitrov. Murray just did what he normally does gives the ball back to the player waiting for the error. Dimitrov went looking for the win, and the normal Dimitrov choke never happened. The same thing happened in Cinci last year, and Dimitrov promptly choked away the winning position. He probably under estimated DImitrov's play and got a deserved defeat. Too many errors from Murray ultimately cost him. The clay season will be interesting to see if he can repeat last season's success at all. Seems to care more for diddy events like the Davis Cup these days. Very frustrating. Wouldn't be at all surprised if Djokovic won every Grand Slam, Masters 1000 event and World Tour Finals tbh. He's simply at the level which makes that possible. It is frustrating because he looked to be coming back closer to his best last year after 2014 was a write off due to his back. I think his back still troubles him although, as you say, he does look like he can't be bothered with playing at times. The last 2 tournaments were the first after the wean, so maybe it is something to do with that?It is difficult to know whether something was bothering him last night because he does that carry on a lot and sometimes still wins. But when he is playing terrible and Mauresmo is sitting away from the rest of the team, you start to wonder if there was more to it than just a bad day at the office. It's a repeating pattern: 2010: R16 Dubai R32 Indian Wells 2011: R32 Rotterdam R64 Indian Wells 2013: QF Indian Wells W Miami 2015: QF Rotterdam QF Dubai The only year he has had a good showing after his Australian Open loss was 2013 when he was at the absolute peak of his powers. Under Lendl he quite often tanked Masters. His losses aren't that much of a surprise. Last year he was pretty much burst going into the American Hard court swing winning Montreal and he was gone after that. In Cinci and US Open he was visibly protecting his back. If he performs like that in a Grand Slam you might get concerned. Although he didn't play that badly, he could have played so much better but Dimitrov played as good as he can, and he scraped through. Djokovic is a cut above anything there has ever been right now. Precision tennis and he misses less often than anyone else in history. Murray probably realises that it is hopeless bursting himself to get to number one, when all that matters at the end of his career will be his slam count. He wasn't moving his feet well and just looked a bit sluggish.
