printer
Probably because there are more people alive today than have ever lived in the history of mankind and social media reaches more of the planet than any form of communication has. Most people like Alexander Fleming, who I think deserves the title of most famous Scot, didn't have the power of social media bombarding billions of people. Famous doesn't mean best. In all likelihood someone like Ewan McGregor is probably better known than any or our engineers or scientists ever were or are. What a pile of shite! FlyerTon
Who would have thought the inventor of the steam engine (James Watt) and the inventor of television (John Logie Baird) were born only about 4 miles away from each other as the crow flies. (James Watt, Greenock; John Logie Baird, Helensburgh) I (self declared inventor of the battered crispy bacon rasher with cheese supper*) was born in the same wee hospital as Angus Young, probably in the same room** / ward. Boom! *ordered it from the Stonehaven chipper which invented the deep fried Mars bar when there was only bacon left before closing. Owner said it was a new one to him **mere speculation, but highly feasible.

Hedgecutter
Radar Pedant alert: As the second most famous Brechiner (after Andrea Brymer), Watson-Watt was the 'team leader' of the WW2 research group which came up with the whole thing, hence it's more of a 'British' invention given the nationalities involved. THE KING
"The Kinross-born surgeon James Braid was the first to experiment with hypnotism, using candles to get people into a trance-like state"Wrong..coined the phrase, pioneered but not invent....Hypnosis originates from the practice of Mesmerism, being an attempt at what the surgeon James Braid described as "rational mesmerism". Braid based his methods of hypnotism directly on the practice of Mesmerism, but applied a more rational explanation for how the process worked.[12] The term hypnotism was coined and introduced by Braid.[11]
