And they tell you with pride - like it proves how good a parent they are. It actually does the exact opposite. Swampy's values these days is about ensuring your race isn't wiped out by immigrants so I'd take what he's chatting with a massive pinch of salt.

The socialism claim seems to be based solely on one point – a declared intention to raise the income tax rate by 1p. To the barricades, comrades…the revolution is here! Meanwhile, they will spend the people’s money on modernising the nuclear deterrent. They will abstain when social justice is on the line. They will surrender on leaving the EU. They will send people to the House of Lords. They will restrict immigration. They will contest the people’s right to self-determination. Meanwhile the ‘non-progressive’ SNP gives out baby boxes, takes more in tax from higher earners, keeps further education free along with prescriptions, has a Welfare Fund for poorer families buying essentials, refuses to privatise water, extends childcare, gets 80 per cent of Scots on the living wage, ameliorates the Bedroom Tax, stands against nuclear weapons and nuclear power, reforms land ownership, works with the STUC against the Trades Union Bill, tackles climate change and takes on big business to curtail alcoholism. Why would a progressive party want to endorse that?
mjw
I don't even know what this woman did but fair play to her getting this reaction from some clown on the internet she has never met.

Nobody is asking for praise or feet kissing but a bit less taking the rest of society for granted when they are trying to help you would be progress. I dont expect that to ever happen though because with an ingrained entitlement complex, there are none so fucking self obsessed as this bottom tranche of society. What this woman did is completely indefensible. If you dont want to be thought of as scum then dont act like scum. Is this too hard for you to understand? Far from "can't be arsed doing it themselves", she's already on record - in the Daily Mail of all places - as saying that she'll happily do two jobs or clean toilets to make ends meet. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-3924012/Single-mother-benefits-admits-defeat-bid-famous.html She made a horrendous "career move" because she was sick of being a deputy headmistress (far from being the only one dropping out of working in education), it's bitten her (& her kids) in the arse & now is paying a big enough price. She may not be the most likeable character, but the pitchfork & torches reaction to her is beyond absurd.
RedRob72
Cant you tell me where some of these no go areas are please? Central Bradford seems to be a 'no-go' for the Police according to recent footage following the shooting of an armed drug dealer in nearby Huddersfield. Can't see that level of violence and intimidation happening in George Sq without a response?

Bradford has been problematic for ages but a lot of it is down to distrust between the white English and the Muslim part of town in the centre-east (part of it was downright childishness & petty oneupmanship). More recently the main bother has been between the Asians & Eastern Europeans over the local taxi trade & hotels, but the Galloway fiasco knocked some sense back into them, plus a lot of disillusionment with the City council (who make Glasgow's appear competent & honest) has provided a focus for more unity. They're a decent enough bunch down there, just very "Yorkshire" in temprement (ie.blunt!).

jmothecat
I worked in Bradford for almost two years and whilst I would never claim it to be my favourite place in the world (hence why I lived in Leeds) there was nowhere there I felt I couldn't go or that were 'lawless'. Tbh I felt more worried when I worked in Springburn than I did Bradford. I think Bradford's image is a lot worse than its reality. It's a pretty dull place but it's not lawless. Birmingham, London, Hull, even Glasgow would be higher on my list of dangerous places than Bradford. I think a few issues in the past have tainted the image of the place.

So you travelled in from Leeds, then went home, ever been up Oak Lane for a Curry, you'd f*ckin shit yourself! Used to be a fine stop off after a few beers, not any more!
