The entire top five of the Highland League are now SPFL clubs.

Dunoon must have been a nightmare trip for Blantyre Celtic, Larkhall and Lanark.

Never knew there was a club called Forfar Celtic!

They merged later in the 70;s with Forfar East End to become Forfar Albion.

Glancing at the Central League, i take I was lucky enough to see and go to Blantyre Celtic, Bailieston and Stonehouse. Never managed Dunoon.

Does anyone know when Ayrshire Leagues combined and played as First and Second Division.

Always remember the Talbot boys always saying how close they were to closing down and their league position illistrates this.

Fife teams 17 10 teams still playing (inc Jubilee that relocated and became Rosyth)

Add Kelty Hearts, Crossgates Primrose, Hill of Beath and Kennoway Star Hearts that's a net reduction of 3 teams in 45 years.

Looking at the teams that left, four were connected to local collierys ( full names were Frances Colliery, Comrie colliery, Valleyfield Colliery and Castlehill colliery), Leven packed in at start of 1990/1 season Clackmannan after 1993/4 season and Tulliallan early 2000s.

Where did the clackmannan team play there games from? I live there just now and had no idea there was ever a junior side. I know there was a senior side in circa early 1900s (date might not be correct) but was unaware of any junior sides

Of the 28 Midland League teams 17 are still on the go plus Forfar Albion evolved from the merger of East End & Celtic. Scone Thistle and Tayport the only newcomers. Four of the Dundee clubs have gone, Elmwood, Osborne, St Joseph's & Stobswell. Think Elmwood lasted into the 80's or even the 90's. As far back as I can remember Osborne never had their own ground and shared Violet's Glenesk :Park then Stobswell's East End Park which still exists. Looks like Perthshire has suffered the most with Alyth United, Bankfoot Athletic, Errol, Luncarty & Perth Celtic all gone with the old Angus League clubs all still on the go if you count the 2 Forfar teams becoming 1.

Brilliant!Eh what bout Auchinleck and Cambuslang just about 2 go on their all conquering run. Those were the days

Takes almost another decade before Talbot become a force.

Things have still to get worse before they get better

Just shows you though, if you told people at this time Talbot would become the best Junior team in Scotland they would have laughed at you

Didn't Comrie colliery become Steelend and when did Halbeath join and then leave the juniors?

Ps, fascinating stuff.

Halbeath was formed in 1970 as an amateur side but was in the Junior set-up 1976-92

If you download the club directory (excel file) from the link below you should get the history of pretty well every club.

Edit: Looking at the archive Steelend Vics (1946-63) became Comrie Colliery in 1964. Comrie folded in 1988, then Steelend reformed in 1995.

This was the period of Peebles Rovers ill fated sojourn in the Juniors- they didn't get the crowds they hoped for and by joining the Junior Ranks they didn't play in the Qualifying Cup South and thus the Scottish Cup. When Peebles rejoined the East of Scotland League c.1975 Whitestone Park didn't meet ground regulations for competing in the Scottish Cup due to it doubling as a cricket pitch in the summer.

HMS Fulmar was to become RAF Lossiemouth shortly after:

"At the end of the hostilities the Station became a satellite unit of Milltown in Coastal Command, before being handed over to the Fleet Air Arm in 1946 and becoming HMS FULMAR, RNAS Lossiemouth. The Fleet Air Arm used Lossiemouth as a training station with pilots receiving their basic training here before moving to Culdrose for instrument training. The final stage of training, (deck-landing) was practised at Milltown, before students were allowed to land on HMS Theseus in the Moray Firth.

The Fleet Air Arm handed the Station back to the Royal Air Force on 28 September 1972"
