2016 Scottish Cup Final - Hibernian FC v Rangers

The report looks pretty fair to me.

It acknowledges that the pitch invasion was basically celebratory, but for the approach of fewer than 200 Hibs fans.  It acknowledges that invading the pitch was perhaps understandable given the circumstances, but that it cannot be considered acceptable due to the safety risks it presents.

It further recognises that the vast majority of the Rangers support left them to it, but that the 200 or so who came on, did so in pursuit of violence.

It's not critical of stewarding, or of policing, although perhaps lessons can be taken on board.  David Gray actually receives more criticism than most for his goal celebration in the crowd.

Clearly the allegation about loads of Rangers players being physically attacked is rubbish and is not considered as part of the narrative at all.

In addressing the aftermath, the report speaks of both clubs cooperating in the investigation, but I think some mention of Rangers' provocative and dishonest statements might have been appropriate, but perhaps it was beyond its remit.

Rangers' response is entirely predictable and laughably non-specific.  The Record's take was clearly produced by someone who hadn't taken the trouble to read the report.

I find it hard to believe that they didn't anticipate a pitch invasion if we won. It was always going to happen and has been spoken about on Hibs forums for years.

More likely they didn't anticipate Hibs winning so felt the question wouldn't come up.

One of the senior cops who was there (and on the pitch) told me it clearly looked as though it was planned.

Regan has clearly made a bit of an arse of this, but that's not anything unusual.

What we have from Rangers however is an attempt to bully and sway opinion, by once more providing a warped account of what happened.  Naturally, the Daily Record is keen to help.

Rangers truly is a despicable organisation.

7.1.8. There was evidence that in the course of the Match sections of the crowd in West Stand merited greater Police attention than those in the East. This was because of the discharge of pyrotechnics and the singing of sectarian songs.

Well I am truly shocked by this. I know it isn't the main issue here but yet again Rangers (and often Celtic fans) can't help themselves with the signing of their 'traditional' songs.
