He was the hottest prospect in the country at the time, Scotland under 21 cap whilst at St Johnstone, no mean feat.
MJC
At the end of the day, a massive well done is due to Alan Burrows and the board for not caving in to Celtic and their bullying tactics. Many a previous Motherwell regime would have caved in to the low ball offer or loan offer from Celtic so I'm delighted that didn't happen. This entire episode has been a farce and while we and the player have conducted ourselves well, Celtic have been a disgrace, firstly with their petulant dummy spitting statement when he initially went to speak to Norwich and then by trying to get us to take a cut price deal for what is our prize asset. The arrogance and entitlement from Celtic is despicable so again, well done to Motherwell for not bowing down to them. (And reading steelmenonline, well done to 'steelboy' as he clearly 'gets it' when it comes to Celtic and isn't afraid to call it as it is.

The entire situation had reached a point where it had descended to legitimate farce and has pretty much dominated our entire pre-season. We're still 3 starting player short in our first XI but almost all our energy seems to have been directed towards managing this absolute shitshow. Reading this Football Scotland piece it sounds like it's Motherwell who collapsed the deal which going back to @Casagolda's post earlier today is exactly what needed to happen if only to kill the relentless speculation that's been going on for the past month and had reached the point of tedium that I was ready to cave in my skull with a brick at even the vaguest mention of the saga. It seems that Motherwell got a second opinion from an independent specialist and there is consensus that he does indeed need the "preventative surgery" despite the player himself having been completely unaware there was an issue. It's shite for him but it's not like Celtic have taken a sharpie to an MRI and faked something. Whether Norwich would have made as much of an issue had they noticed it who knows but the actual point of having medicals is to catch stuff like this and allow the buying club to make a judgement call. In that respect the deal on the table went from £3m+extras+ sell on % to "We'll take him on loan for a season and maybe sign him, no guarantees though lads". If Celtic decided they didn't fancy him then they pack him up and ship him back to Fir Park leaving him with a year on his deal. Also, presumably he wouldn't see that much heralded "magnificent" salary if he's still contracted as a Motherwell player and we sure as f**k aren't paying his £20k p/w. All in all it's a very different proposition to what was agreed and Motherwell had every right to bin it and re-evaluate their position without the clock running and Celtic putting on a heavy lean. I wonder where they got that.

I think back to Keigan Parker for us, as a 17-18 year old, he scored 9 Premiership goals by christmas in one of his first seasons, and everyone was raving about him. He never reached those dizzy heights again. Every club in the country will have an example of a player being the next big thing because of an outstanding period, only for them to fizzle away and have average careers with no big fees involved. The Jake Hastie effect, we like to call it.
thisGRAEME
I see the line is now that we're badly run, we aren't looking after Turnbull properly, and we were trying to pull a fast one. Some of the gymnastics being done is truly incredible.

I'm not pretending Celtics statement churning of Sevco proportions was baffling but would you expect any club to say 'ach dont worry about the dodge knee I'm sure it will be fine'. It's the same reason why it appears no other clubs are coming calling now until it is sorted. Exactly what the terms and conditions were put forward would be pure speculation.

Worth remembering he was considered one of the "hottest talents" in the country at one point. I'm sure he debuted for us at 16, and in 2000/01, at the age of 18/19, he'd scored 10 goals in 22 games in the top flight, including a goal against Rangers (Kenny Miller also scored that day ) I don't think he scored ten goals for us over his next three and a half seasons at the club combined.
