They wanted to be more data-led but at the end of the day, you've still got to find people who want to play for the club, rather than just coming for the money. In honesty the whole Moneyball concept is using data and analytics to find players who have been undervalued. Clearly I've no idea what the discussion on strategy has been but I'd guess that @well fan for life's point about simply using data to inform recruitment decisions is probably closer to the mark than us using stats to try and find someone who'll score 20 goals a season but no one's noticed because he looks weird. well fan for life
[Probably boring] Kevin de Bruyne negotiated his last contract using data and I am all in favour of it as an approach. https://trainingground.guru/articles/how-analytics-fc-helped-de-bruyne-negotiate-new-man-city-deal Tbh I'd be disappointed if anyone actively rejected use of data in football. Ultimately if you can use data to narrow your pool of targets down to folk who can add value to your team in terms of raw numbers then that's only a good thing. Obviously if they then turn out to be a w**k/want a fortune then you can get rid of them at that point. [/probably boring]

Desp
Mulgrew is 35 now and last played for Fleetwood Town. I think every team and every dressing room needs some experience in it to guide the younger plays. However, I'm not sure if Charlie fucking Mulgrew has the right kind of character to be that guy. Not for me.

The article that Tweet's lifted from is taking a fair bit of license with the quote that appeared on the OS. Quote The prospect of an addition in that area of the pitch will open up the prospect of one, or both of Carter and Magloire leaving on loan, but with Magloire into the final year of his deal, and turning 23 in December, Motherwell may try and tempt him with the offer of a permanent deal. “We remain in positive discussions with a number of clubs in relation to one or two players we had on loan, with a view to doing something. But these things take some time,” Alexander said of possible interest in Magloire. “The process of rebuilding the squad is well underway.” Link The context of the quote has f**k all to do with the bold Tyler. #announceCharlie Edited May 29, 2021 by capt_oats
