ropy
Three good goals scored, 3 poor goals conceded. Performance in general was fine (not good enough for league business though), mistakes at the back and we had opportunities to score more goals, need to be clinical. The keeper had one save, one block on a player running through and left his feet in the middle to save the fifth penalty. Not sure he had any chance with the goals. Perhaps the most inept 6 months in the history of this club. It could have been worse. We've got the bonus point and hopefully Ketts has seen enough Lamie specials in one game tonight that ensures he never plays another minute for us.

Took up good positions going forward and was picked out a few times, didn’t have too much to do defensively, maybe if he did we would have won.
ropy
Lamie’s first yellow was for mouthing at theref and going on and on even after the card was awarded. His second seems to have been for tackling a boy after he was out the park (otherwise that was another penalty against us), these events seem self inflicted.

We were largely fine for mid-july other than those two jokers at the back. Midfield looks very promising, rest needs work. Not unexpected. Suspect that dropped point may prove costly in terms of being seeded but 11 points may yet be enough.

'WellDel
Two games played, two completely different 11's, a win and a draw (with bonus point), and although it's a cup and one of our two chances at silverware, it is still to all intents and purposes pre-season. It's a shite state of affairs that our season starts so early and that one of our national competitions has been reduced to this, but it's where we're at, and as long as we progress then it's job done. Aye, seeding would be nice, and if Kettlewell was desperate for it he'd have started each game with his strongest 11 rather than experimenting and giving everyone a chance to stake their claim. As it is we are still in pole position to go through, and having given them all a chance he will have learned a lot and had suspicions confirmed about the suitability of certain players/pairings etc (looking at you Lamie and Mugabi). Offloading either or both of them would be high on my list of priorities to free up wages. There will be more arrivals, and hopefully departures, before we kick off against Dundee and the squad is still taking shape. I'm not going to read too much into these games as they are what they are - literal bounce games. Although it's one of our main cup competitions, the format, early start and farcical coverage give it less and less credence every season, and to me it's all very fucking meh.

Aye, it's a fine balancing act. You don't want to throw away a cup chance and that means no slip ups in July. On the other hand, if you have your best XI ready by this point you will absolutely hit problems later on. I'd like to see as strong a team as possible on Saturday and a bit more rotation v East Fife.
ropy
The Slattery penalty looked odd, but the keeper never moved.

Players think it's a safe bet since keepers rarely stay down the middle.

Ceiling Granny
After last season I find it difficult to get too wound up about these results. Would I like a cup run - absolutely, but does Kettlewell need a decent look at all of the squad in competitive action - also absolutely. If last night helps Kettlewell start the season knowing his preferred 11, preferred shape, subs etc etc as well as who he wants to try and move out then that’s the game. It’s just one of those unfortunate things given the mess we were left in last year. I’m not suggesting it’s fine to just patch the cup, but if we don’t finish in a seeded position but start the league stronger because if it then that’s worth it imo.
Swello
Alexander was objectively shite at preseason - both of his we were an unprepared mess. This season - it feels quite planned and methodical, so if we get 11/12 points in our LC group and are in a decent shape for the league, I'd be perfectly happy TBH.

Good shout. I can't imagine Hammell having the confrontation skills to change it, even if he wanted to . Kettlewell choosing McGinn was probably easier given that Lamie hadn't ever actually captained the team, or started a game for him, prior to last night.

Neil86
The midfield worked well, hopefully that is the 3 moving forward, Appreciate Miller is only 16 though and that might not be possible. Obika was a lot better, Ferrie showed up well. Papa Souare was solid enough when he had to be defensively, and found good positions further up the park. Mugabi defended the long balls relatively well tbf but he ALWAYS has that mistake in him. Lamie, hopefully doesn't play again.
capt_oats
Looking at Robinson's time playing in the group stages his record was P 12 W 11 D 1 L 0 (we lost the penalties against Stranraer) and that was fine and ultimately he'd argue that his priority was qualifying but the trade off was that in doing so he was pretty much playing a close to established starting XI in every game. For reference, the starting line up in the QOTS game in the screenshot below was; Carson; Kipré, McHugh, Donnelly; Tait, Cadden, Rose, Campbell, Frear; Bowman, Sammon with a bench of Johnson, Taylor-Sinclair, Grimshaw, Gillespie, Gorrin, Bigrimana, Hartley. In Turnbull's breakout season in 18/19 (the one in the screenshot) he didn't play a single minute of the group stage games which, in hindsight, probably feels like an opportunity missed. I can't recall from memory if he was maybe injured or not but he was on the bench for the first game then dropped out the squad and he subsequently started the league season on the bench. From that point of view, and acknowledging the extent to which Alexander seemed wildly unprepared in both his pre-seasons, it's kind of hard to get worked up at the idea of Kettlewell taking a bit of a clean slate approach in order to take a look at the squad as a whole.
